Chez Pascal--WOW
i have been dying to try chez pascal- i love right up the street from it and still haven't made it. but this review makes me even more ready to go!
Wings in RI?
I recently had them at the Red Bridge Tavern, and while I'm not sure if they are my favorite, they were very tasty. Also, East ave. makes a great buffalo tender- there is something in the sauce (same they use for the wings) that i really love.
Wings in RI?
i've actually been wondering about the food at this place. i had heard good things about the bar atmosphere, but i like to know that i can get tasty food while i'm there too. thanks for the rec!
Great Italian Restaurant in Providence
i agree, pane e vino would be my choice as well: http://www.panevino.net/
it is really simple, good italian with a nice, warm atmosphere. my favorite is the gnocchi!
Wings in RI?
east ave cafe in pawtucket. fantastic wings. and on mondays- they are only 20 cents each!
Does anyone know of a sports bar in Providence i am starting college there in less that a week..?
you might try murphys as well- i believe they have screens and such in their new location (downtown).
Tina's Jamaican Caribbean Restaurant
i ended up getting the curried chicken which i really liked. wrote a longer review on my blog here (with a picture of the enormous plate!): http://tomatosoup.typepad.com/tomato_soup/2007/08/tinas.html
Sushi in Rhode Island
haruki east is my favorite. i think they have the best selection and the freshest and more flavorful sushi. i think that 10 is not good at all, and painfully, painfully overpriced. they serve the same sushi at big fish and it's not good there either- overcooked rice, bland fish, limited menu, boring options. i like ran zan when i am craving sushi, dont want to make a big production out of it (in terms of money as well) and there sashimi has always been very good. definitely a limited menu, so it's less of a destination. agree that whole foods brown rice maki's can often be as good as those at the restaurants though!
Providence Neighborhood Restaurant
i will second (or third) blaze- but make sure to go to the hope st. location it's much, much better in terms of atmosphere. also agree with loie fullers. while not authentic, i often enjoy the atmosphere at india on hope street. also try el rancho grande in olneyville, julian's on broadway, and tortilla flats on hope street (more for the atmosphere and less for the food. the fajitas are usually a no fail choice and the sangria for $15 a pitcher is always delicious).
Good Thai Food in Providence, RI
let me know what you think of arunothai (the new place in pawtuxet village)- i tried it and reviewed it for motif magazine. i thought it was just okay. the curry was good, but i also had another chicken dish that was syrupy and not good at all.
Tina's Jamaican Caribbean Restaurant
im going there for dinner on thursday actually, what do you recommend?
Chow at Waterfire in Providence?
all the restaurants in and around waterfire (union station brewhouse, capital grille, citron, etc) are usually PACKED and even at around 6 pm have 1-2 hour waits. but anywhere else downtown is fair game- try local 121, the red fez, bravo brasserie, or murphy's!
Tazza in Providence
their lunch food is very, very overpriced. went there with my boyfriend awhile ago and we just had two sandwiches (no drinks) and it was $20. i wrote a full review here: http://tomatosoup.typepad.com/tomato_soup/2007/04/tazza.html. it's too bad that it didn't wow me because i really love the space.
Dinner at Nick's on Broadway
i believe the number is 500 Broadway, on the corner of Broadway and Tobey.
Saturday bruch in Providence for a group of 15-20?
i feel very differently. i thought the food was quite awful in fact- but have only been for dinner, not brunch.
Hey RI'ers....Where do you take your out of town guests?
places i've taken my parents when they come visit, and which they've loved: providence oyster bar (they live in an area where fresh seafood is hard to come by), pan e vino, blaze east side, red stripe (for brunch), julians (for brunch and a huge favorite). i dont know if these are all necessarily places that make food they cant find similarly at home- but they are all quite good. i would say julian's is the most unique!
Bacaro-Providence
love the idea of the salumi platter!!! i can't wait to check that out. question- what were the prices like? as exorbitant as al forno? just want to know what i'm in for when i go!
Bacaro-Providence
according to the website, http://www.bacarorestaurant.net/, it isn't open yet. but that website also doesn't look very updated! i walked by it about a week ago and it still looked like there was work being done though.
Providence - Chez Pascal Hot Dog cart open yet?
what are the days and hours of the cart? sometimes i see it, sometimes i don't- and i can't quite figure it out!
Good late night Providence
it is the same menu- but it has changed since they opened the new location. they now have more pizzas and burgers, but still a great selection of the bigger entrees.
Good late night Providence
the new blaze on thayer street is open and serving food until 1 am. also, loie fuller's now open on westminster on the west side serves their appetizers until later. julian's on broadway also has a late night menu!
New "foodie" restuarant on Providence's West Side
loie fuller's is fantastic. just awesome. i went there this weekend and posted a lengthy review on my blog. i am very pleased with this addition to the providence dining scene!!!
Saturday bruch in Providence for a group of 15-20?
i am fairly certain that neither nick's nor julian's take reservations. and if you are with 20 people- that is about half the capacity of nick's, so im not sure you should try it there.
also, the rue is not fancy at all for brunch. it is quite casual and the bloody mary's are decent. you might try red stripe in wayland square- also casual with a great bloody mary. i cant seem to think of anywhere that has a large outdoor seating capacity- most places just have a couple little tables thrown outside on the sidewalk!
Providence - Chez Pascal Hot Dog cart open yet?
as of last week, i hadn't seen it. but i hope it's soon- im dying to try it!
New England Road Trip - Be Our Guide?
i am a native oregonian living in providence- so welcome! i miss portland very very much.
i think that providence is worth a night. in terms of wine- the providence oyster bar (don't worry, plenty of non-shellfish options!) is fantastic. it carries sokol blosser pinot gris which i find to be delicious, and any sokol blosser is hard to find. la laiterie (http://lalaiterie.farmsteadinc.com) would also be a fantastic option- fresh local cheeses and seasonally influenced foods. it doesn't seem that they have oregon wines on their menu- but it is the type of place where you could probably strike up a conversation with the owner and convince him to offer some of the northwests best!
if you are here for breakfast, go to nick's on broadway or julians for the best brunch around- nick's especially has a "funky diner" feel.
i hope you make it to providence- and enjoy the rest of your trip!
p.s. are your cookbooks oregon related? i would love to check them out...
Anyone been to Pot au Feu lately? (Providence)
haha. i would actually assume the salon is better...it definitely seems to have higher standards!
Anyone been to Pot au Feu lately? (Providence)
my boss goes to Pot au Feu often for business lunches, and ive accompanied him several times. i have yet to go for dinner- but i wouldn't say lunch stands out. the bread is fantastic (warm and right from the oven) and the atmosphere is very nice and quaint. i'm anxious to try dinner. i would recommend it if just for location and privacy.
Nicks on Broadway/Providence
i went on saturday for dinner and had a fantastic meal. great drinks, entrees (sirloin and tuna specials), and dessert (s'mores pound cake with a cocunut mousse). and i also love the atmosphere!
Providence RI
I have to disgaree with Al Forno- VERY long wait, rude host, crowded bar area to wait in, and just okay food- but very expensive. there are much better restaurants in providence to spend your money at.
Providence RI
I agree with JaneRI on 10 Steak and Sushi. I've been there twice and wasn't thrilled either time. Very lackluster food with exorbitant prices. I also agree with Nick's on Broadway. That place is delicious! For brunch, though, expect a very long wait.
on the Hill, I prefer Pane E Vino. Downtown I prefer the Red Fez or Pot au Feu!
