What do you recommend for tonight?? Maialino or Beauty & Essex?

thanks for the feedback. I should say I love Maialino and have never been to beauty and essex. However, this business contact did love stanton social when we went there.

"42" in White Plains -- review

Another unsatisfying experience at 42... We hadn't yet been and having read the reviews on here, while curious, weren't in a rush to g. But... we had some friends who suggested it - one who had been and liked it and the other who wanted to try it. I must say ti was very disappointing. The decor was nice but service was poor and food was mediocre. I had the lobster which arrived chewy and cold. they proceeded to reheat it, rendering it even worse. No one thought to even check back to see how it was. Our server was mostly preoccupied and only attentve to the men, plus a bit condescending. And parking was a disaster - took forever to park and for the valet to retrieve our car... I wouldn't rush back!

Looking for a good, byo place somewhere in Northern Jersey. Need food worthy of opening a nicely cellared, perfectly aged wine!

so... we never actually made it out two years ago when I first posted this... I thought I would try again. Are these suggestions still valid? Any new ones? We are looking to go in mid-July (and promise to report back after!). Thanks in advance!!!

Don Emilio at Lobo Cafe- the jury's still out...

We had a very similar experience. i don't feel they ever really plan to honor their reservations. We were actually a few minutes early for our 8 pm reservation and were told the table was paying their check; however, it ended up being half an hour (and a number of reminder visits to Don Emilio) before we were seated. We had a round of drinks while waiting, and then they 'bought' our other round while we were waiting. They apologized for the wait but didn't seem to make any real efforts. While the food was decent, it wasn't worth the experience, and we don't plan on returning.

Help a Chicagoan With Westchester Co. Recs?

If you want to stay more local to Chappaqua... In Chappaqua itself, I would recommend le jardin du roi for casual french bstro type experience and grappolo locando for italian. Still staying close, for indian, try Bollywood bistro in Pleasantville.

Does anyone know if they still allow byob with no corkage fee? Alternatively, any other recommendations for byob places in the city, preferably downtown.

Greenport, LI (and greater North Fork area) Rec's

I second the frisky oyster recommendation below. Also good is the fifth season. You guys may want to hed over to shelter island (you can take the ferry from greenport) for drinks at some point - sunset beach is really fun. In terms of wineries, I would recommend macari and waters edge.

Good Australian sparkling wine for wedding?

My friend is marrying someone from Australia. They were going to serve Prosecco at the wedding but now are thinking of doing an Australian sprakling in homage to his country of origin. Any suggestions for a good, moderately priced (~$20) sparkling wine from Australia?

We are looking for somewhere close to equi-distant for us from Chappaqua to meet a couple who live in Scotch Plains. Appreciate any and all suggestions.... We have a great wine collection at home and some of our older wines are getting ready to drink. We want to be able to share with our friends, who are also wine lovers.

Long Island Wineries

Second Lieb and Shinn recommendations. Other favorites we have are Waters Crest and Ackerly Pond (both smaller). For the bigger wineries, we also like Castello de Borghese (first winery out there - previously Hargrave) and Macari.
