If you're looking for casual and moderate, Bar Wellington is right there. Reasonable prices, nice patios.

Traditional French bistro in Toronto: some names?

There's a nice little place on Ossington north of Queen called Beau Lieu Bistro. They have a very traditional French bistro menu, delicious food and the staff is lovely.

Kid-friendly brunch near Queen and Ossington

Luna Cafe on Dovercourt, one street west of Ossington, corner of Argyle, has great brunch. I don't think they do reservations, but the turn-over is pretty quick.
Definitely kid-friendly with lots of brunch items is the Lakeview http://www.thelakeviewrestaurant.ca/ on Dundas just east of Ossington, and lots of seats.
Too bad you need to go tomorrow and not Sunday, because Dakota and Delux have really good Sunday brunch. Let us know where you decide!

Beau Lieu? Looking for info on new Ossington bistro??

There is a bar with a couple of seats in the back of the restaurant. Have a good dinner!

Beau Lieu? Looking for info on new Ossington bistro??

Beau Lieu is classic French recipes and large portions. We really liked it. I wrote this last month when it opened, so am linking to it: http://ossingtonvillage.com/2010/09/beau-lieu-bistro-is-now-open/

Lunch with friends in west end/ossington area?

Along with those two great suggestions, Union is also open for lunch. http://www.union72.ca/index.cfm?pagepath=MENU&id=13170

Oysters in the West End?

Atlantic at Dundas and Brock has oysters and a nice selection of other seafood dishes. I had dinner there a couple weeks ago and the food was great and reasonable, and the atmosphere was casual.

Looking for a caterer for scones and clotted cream

I know Daniel et Daniel does scones and clotted cream as we've had them before for work meetings. Love the clotted cream. They usually provide assorted jams and butter too.

1st time visitor needs late dinner suggestions and other advice

You can also get dinner pretty late at the Drake and the food is quite good.

Honey / best of College-Ossington

Sunday Brunch at the Dakota is good, cheap and fun. It is family style for $12 and you usually get scrambled eggs, pancakes, home fries, bacon and sausage, oj and coffee. Bluegrass bands are the entertainment, and the kids dancing to them. On Ossington east side, just north of Dundas. Starts at 11am and a line starts forming immediately, so plan accordingly.
Also good for brunch is If Cafe, on north side of Dundas at Grove Street. Small place, small menu, but everything is delicious and less than $10. Great lattes too.
Excellent Churrasco chicken place next to Caldense bakery. Can't remember the name of the place, but really good sauce on the chicken. I don't know how people go to KFC when that place is next door, but that's me.

NY hounds' first trip to Toronto [Nov 8-10]

I know you want to see some local art. Queen West has lots of galleries, especially Queen West West near the Drake, and you will also pass by the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art. It's a small, interesting spot, no entry fee, just donation suggested. http://www.mocca.toronto.on.ca/
The Gladstone Hotel is just a block or two past the Drake, and has good local beers and wines, and tasty food. It is also an artsy hotel. They have exhibits and events all the time. I live in the neighborhood and prefer the Gladstone, as it has more of a laid back feel, and less of the 905ers (our version of "bridge and tunnel"). You may want to check it out. http://www.gladstonehotel.com/

Dinner near College and Clinton

Am considering going to Olivia's this week with a group of friends. The website has a menu but no prices. Are mains in the $20 range or above $30? Am looking for somewhere new to go for a discerning group with mains in the 20s

Thanks!

Ladies and Gentlemen.....The new Champ Pizzeria Libretto

We have been there twice: opening night and this past Tuesday. On both visits, I found the service warm and competent and the food delicious. The salad with peaches was notably delicious, as was the mushroom bruschette. I also like the price points on the wine, and find the pizza crisp and delicious. I wouldn't go with a group though, as it is much too loud. I am glad this place has opened in my neighborhood and hope it lasts a while.

visiting TO for 7 days: BEST Cheap Eats?

Sidecar on College and Clinton is a nice non-Italian spot. Love Cafe Le Gaffe on College for pizza, salads, light pastas. Bar Italia is also good on College. Oh! and if you want a veal sandwich that is a HUGE meal, California Sandwiches is a walk from College Street.

Parkdale! - (suggestions for this weekend??)

Both Foxley and Delux are worth a visit. Foxley has more unique offerings, while Delux is more standard comfort food done well. Up to you really, but I'd recommend calling ahead as both are small rooms that get busy.
Another idea is Nyood, which only opened a few weeks ago. It's located on Queen just west of Dovercourt (next to the Social). The space is beautiful, and the menu is extensive with lots of tasty food. The charcuterie was very good, as was the beet salad and the ribs. Similar idea to Foxley, where everything is meant for sharing, and they just bring out what's ready. Another good option in the hood. Enjoy!

Suggestions for "Homey" non-pretentious, but good food in West End Downtown

You should try Delux on Ossington. Just opened recently, and good traditional bistro fare.

Cheese fondue ? or cheese fondon't

I believe Cafe Taste in Parkdale has fondue on the menu. The bulk of the menu is cheese, so I would be surprised if they didn't. It's a cute spot with nice wine choices and friendly staff. Site: http://www.cafetaste.ca/about/

MB&Co for the office?

At our office, we generally order from Daniel and Daniel. They have a great variety of sandwiches and wraps, and I think they are priced similarly to the competition.

Indus Junction

We went to Indus Junction tonight and were delighted by the fresh delicious food. It was the best Indian meal I had had in a while. We split the lamb chops which were very tender and tasty with sliced apples on top, which were a nice addition. We also had the madras salmon curry, and I could not stop eating it even after I was full. The salmon was cooked perfectly and the sauce was spicy and a perfect consistency. On the side we had deliciously fluffy basmati rice and paratha. All of it was so good that I ate way past the point of being satiated. We also had a bottle of Gewurtzimminer and the total was $77 before tip. Tuesday night, so not too busy, but there were 5 other full tables while we ate, so more than half-full. Really good meal with nice servers. I highly recommend it, and can't wait to go back as there were plenty other dishes to try!

Great Fall Drives and Food

Peter Sellers pub near Mono Mills is delightful. Lovely outside deck, really great food for a pub and always pleasant service.

Church and Bloor - ANY good Lunch spots?

7 West has tasty pizzas, pastas, salads and sandwiches. Reasonably priced, Charles St just west of Yonge, so not far at all.

Cool place to take my friend from New York for lunch?

Another fun and comfy spot, with cheap soups, salads and sandwiches, and good coffee, and licensed, is Tequila Bookworm on Queen St West just east of Bathurst. Great neighborhood I imagine your visitor would like to check out. Hope it's a fun visit!

Cool place to take my friend from New York for lunch?

I love Cava. It is great food, tapas, so you can try a few different dishes and not spend too much money. Cava is located at Yonge and St Clair so convenient via TTC.

Where is a Great, Fun place to have my staff Christmas Party in Downtown Toronto?

We had a small event at The Fat Belgian a few months ago. They had a great beer list, good martinis and yummy appetizers. These seem like things guys that age would like. It's right downtown so good location too.

Prince Edward County Restaurants

Was just there today! For breakfast, we went to the Marshmallow Room, on the main street in Bloomfield. This is attached to the Carriage House restaurant, which had a great menu. If the wonderful baked goods for breakfast are any indication, the Carriage House must be delicious! At any rate, for coffee and a pastry, try the Marshmallow Room. We both had lattes and I had a rhubarb-mixed berry pastry and my husband had a lemon cherry tart. Yum!

Suggestions for dinner around Queen and University

What about Soul of the Vine? It is at Bay and Wellington and definitely walkable.

Wine Country Redux

Thanks for the knowledgeable reviews, LL! I am going to bring my visiting parents to the wine region this coming weekend, and although I prefer the smaller wineries, I like your idea of starting at a big winery for a tour and overview. Henry of Pelham, or maybe Hillebrand, sounds like a good place to do that! Then we can visit some of the smaller wineries like Calamus, which I love, and Featherstone, which I want to visit. I think we will also do a walk through the town of NOTL as it has cute shops (and the jam store!) which my mom may like. Any other suggestions, let me know! We go this upcoming Sunday.

My favorite Ontario Wineries

Zooma Zooma. My husband and I had lunch there in July and each of us had a beer for under $30.

It's in Jordan Village, right across the street from Inn on The Twenty

"Affordable" Lunch/Dinner from Jordan to NOTL?

I recommend Zooma Zooma on the main street in Jordan. My husband and I had lunch there in July with a beer each for under $30 and it was delicious. They have a nice outdoor patio and the service was easygoing and attentive. It is right across the street from Inn on The Twenty/Cave Spring Cellars. Site: http://zoomazoomacafe.ca/Home.html
