Oh yeah we have one of those but I'm flying in by myself so can't lug carseat and booster and bags.

Thanks everyone! Home Tasting said they'll bring a high chair in for us!
H can squirm out of the tie chairs now so it's gone into storage. Hoping we'll have time to hit Wurst and Borgo which both sound right up our alley.

Downtown Calgary toddler-friendly

Hi!
I haven't posted here for a while because we had a baby and moved to Van. But we're returning for a weekend and I'm eager to try some of the new places that opened. Problem is they need to have a high chair avail. My toddler is very well-behaved so I'm not worried about menu or atmosphere.

I had Modern Milk and Home Tasting Room on my list but they don't offer high chairs. I also have eye on Borgo and Ox/Angela. But are there any new, innovative places I should try?

We'll be staying downtown so would like to stick to around there/inner city.

Thanks!

Beignets in Calgary?

Brasserie Kensington's beignets were hot and fresh. Nice dough/texture. Good portion... BUT there wasn't enough sugar and wildflower honey over them so the whole dessert was kinda dry.

Maybe you had a few too many vodkas? Hee hee. I always think it tastes faintly of vanilla...

Brasserie Kensington (Calgary)

I just posted about it on my blog but we only went for lunch. I think the vodka is bison grass. A slightly sweet vodka common in Poland. Zubrowska is the kind I've been able to buy in Calgary liquor stores.

Chinese hot pot anyone?

We ended up going to the newish Cultural Centre Restaurant in Chinatown. Extremely good value at $18.95 and very fresh AYCE.

Brasserie Kensington (Calgary)

Was perusing the list of restaurants in this year's Dine Out Calgary (March 4-14) and noticed Brasserie Kensington on there http://www.calgarydowntown.com/the-bi.... It's the new place above Winebar that used to be an interior decorating office run by the same owners of Muse, Winebar and AKA Bistro.

Judging from the sample menus, it's going to be meat heavy.

Kensington gossip - Calgary

There's a permit in the window of a former spa on 10th Street NW stating it will be "Crepe Cafe" or something like that. It's the shop next to the bead store and bong store.

Delicious Specials/Deals (Calgary)

$25 early bird menu every night at River Cafe 4:30-5:30 p.m. I think it's an app, entree and dessert.

Chinese hot pot anyone?

I know this is an old thread so just checking if anyone knows about Forbidden City's hot pot now. Specifically which days it's offered, and if there's an AYCE option. Thanks!

Best Pub Food - Calgary

I've really enjoyed the food at the Bottlehouse (the cursed corner) both for dinner and weekend brunch. Their chef really knows what he's doing.

Maggie's Shortbread closed

Yeah that was my first thought when I saw it open there too, that they'd have to sell a LOT of shortbread to make Kensington rent.

Maggie's Shortbread closed

Maggie's Shortbread location in Kensington was short-lived. They closed and moved out this week. I think they were there less than six months? Luckily I used my Groupon for 2 for 1 shortbread beforehand. Not sure if they're going anywhere else since the Calgary Farmers' Market is closed now too. No update on their website http://www.maggiesshortbread.com/

The BottleHouse Beer Parlour - Calgary (Kensington)

Went to Bottlehouse for weekend brunch. Amazing crab cakes benedict and a good hearty regular breakfast (eggs, bacon). Loved that there's lots of space, no lineup and great service (lots of coffee refills ie).

As I just learned many Kensington pubs and restaurants can't allow children (because of liquor licence), it's a bonus that weekend brunch at Bottlehouse is kid-friendly.

What a strange and fun find! Thanks John.

Kol3 Restaurant - Calgary (Kensington)

It's worth mentioning that on top of the traditional banh xeo, they've thrown in some cheeky modern twists on it including bacon cheeseburger and Greek (feta, chicken) banh xeo. It was my first time so I only tried the shrimp/pork one, but definitely will be returning for the newer flavours.

The $9 price point was a tad high I thought for the portion, BUT I kind of accept it because I can imagine that rent in the Kensington space is pricier than a hole in the wall in Chinatown.

We also had a Vietnamese sub -- panko-breaded basa filet with mayo, wasabi, shredded carrots and cucumbers. I LOVED this. It was $9 I think but it was very big.

They've done a really good job rearranging the space from the previous taco/pizza and Tandoori Knight businesses.

You forgot - sitting at the counter in front of the open kitchen chatting with the chefs, and the consistently great wine recommendations from friendly staff.

Favorite coffeehouse/cafe with wifi and why?

John: No offence taken; you're definitely the coffee expert. :-) I just really like the food and atmosphere at Vendome.

Favorite coffeehouse/cafe with wifi and why?

My fave is Vendome Cafe tucked behind the Safeway in Kensington. I love the light that streams in the windows of the old house and the staff are super nice. Bonus: the food is amazing (from the same people behind Teatro) like crab eggs benedict or duck confit sandwich. It's small but quiet with free wifi.

Nando's Chicken NE YYC

That's terrible! I've been there three or four times but the tables have always been full so I didn't notice anything out of order in terms of cleanliness. Very unfortunate. Hope they notice this and clean things up.

It is indeed 2-9 pm on Sat; maybe they're busy with family/personal stuff on Sat mornings? Or they figure no one's around that part of town at the time of day?

Their hours are Mon-Tues 11 a.m.-3 p.m., Wed-Fri 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Sat 2-9 p.m., closed Sun.

Was blown away by the size of their schnitzel and beef sandwich (all for only $6.95 with free toppings including mushrooms, sauteed onions or sauerkraut)... Super nice people too!
