Interesting Street Tamales in Upper Manhattan

So the Tamale lady on 96th and lex was there a couple years ago (2008 makes sense) then she disappeared for a year, but now she is back! These tamales are great! I don't speak spanish, so I haven't even been able to ask what options she has. I totally doubt she has a license of any kind to sell these tamales out of her cooler....but boy are they worth it! I've gotten my friends at work HOOKED on them---TGI Tamale Friday!

best crispy oatmeal cookie in manhattan?

Hi, I am looking to get the best cripsy oatmeal cookies in the city for a friend. She likes the cookies crispy, so not soft doughy centers. Think better versions of famous amos. Please help! I have no idea where to go!

Great eating to/from Sugarloaf?

A group of us are going skiing next weekend up at Sugarloaf (from NYC area). We are looking to get some good food on the way up and back from skiing (preferably lobster, but open to anything)- could someone recommend a good place to stop that wouldn't be too far out of the way (and is open in the winter!)

Thanks in advance!!

Las Vegas Buffet

I'll second the Spice Market Buffet at Planet Hollywood. I was out there in June and ate at the Rio, Wynn and Spice Market buffets. I definitely think the Wynn buffet had the largest and tastiest buffet of all three, but Spice Market Buffet was a fair second--mostly because the selection is not as large as the Wynn. It is an excellent value though, for the price and the quality of food. Rio had a great selection, but I think the quality of the food was not that good.

Mediocre "modjeskas"

Yes, unfortunately the Bauers modjeska is not the greatest. By far, the Muth's candy modjeska is delicious! I love giving them as gifts around the holidays, because it seems so strange to people at first, but when they taste these bad boys, they can't get enough! If your gonna east a modjeska, eat the Muth's ones. You can buy online, or at Bergdorf Goodman if your in NYC.

Looking for best udon and ramen in NYC

I think you might have to go to mitsuwa as well. If anything just to get the ingredients and make it yourself. It would be easy....I think the mochi you are thinking of is the traditional rice cake eaten on New years. If you go to any Japanese supermarket now, you should be able to find it. Also the fish cake etc will be available. I have been looking for this Ramen in NYC too, and have yet to find. There is a new ramen shop called Naruto that at least has the fishcake and pork down. It's on 3rd ave and 89th st.

Red Velvet Cake

I love Red Velvet cake as well. Now that I've read this whole blog, if your looking for a chocolate based red-velvet--try booty bakery on 23rd bet 8th and 9th ave. I never had the cake, but they have really yummy cupcakes with delicious cream cheese frosting, and it's really chocolate based. like they say below, it's not that red, but you can tell it's red velvet.
