Road trip NJ to western MD via PA on I-78 (Bethlehem, Allentown, Harrisburg)

Ooh, began planning my trip in earnest. I'm leaving on a Friday morning and returning on a Monday, so it looks like both Deitsch Eck and Haag Hotel are out. I'll put Roadside America, Dietrich's and the Fogelsville Hotel on my list tho!

Thanks! Dietrich's looks like a good option. I looked at the web site... one thing I wasn't sure of though is -- are they only for groceries, or are they a restaurant too?

Help? Road trip through Western Maryland on I-70 and I-68

Hi guys,

I'll be traveling from Central Jersey to Western Maryland in the middle of September, and I was wondering if there are any suggestions for places to visit on my 5-hour road trip.

It looks like I'll be mostly on I-70 and I-68, passing through Hagerstown and Cumberland on the way to Deep Creek Lake. I'm not looking to get too far off the freeway though. Any suggestion on quick, cheap, original, must-see places to eat?

Thanks!

Where to get Costa Rican cainitos?

My girlfriend and I recently visited Costa Rica, and saw this fruit that we thought was a mangosteen, but was identified as a cainito. Unfortunately, we never got to try it!

I poked around on the web, and I think this is it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysoph...

Also known as caimito, star apple, golden leaf tree, abiaba, pomme du lait, estrella, milk fruit and aguay. Does anyone know where I might be able to obtain one?

Thanks!

Best Restaurants in Edison, NJ?

I grew up in Edison, NJ, and have moved back from NYC temporarily, and have been pleasantly surprised to hear of all the offerings in my hometown. However, the reality has been kind of mixed. I've had a good meal at Rasoi on Oak Tree Road, and the burgers at the Menlo Park Diner are as amazing as I remember them. I can still get my favorite fast food, Chick-fil-a, here, when I couldn't get them in NYC.

But the memories of Friendly's and Tastee Sub from my childhood don't quite live up to the reality, and the new Five Guys Burgers (a DC favorite) that recently opened up at Woodbridge Mall is a poor substitute for the city's Burger Joint or Shake Shack.

I'm looking for more places to try now... Any suggestions? Thanks!

favorite lunch specials in nyc?

I'm usually free on Fridays, so I can get lunch anywhere in the city. I used to love all types of lunch specials -- whether it be midday prix-fixe meals at fancy midtown restaurants, or just a cheaper deal at my local rib joint. I'm eager to hear yours!

Complicated Equation- Tribeca, Early Fri. Eve.

Update: Went to 26 Seats. Had a great time -- they treated us very well. I think I made the right decision -- the places suggested are good, but may have been a tad too fancy. Hopefully the relationship will move on to a stage where they'll become the right choice. But for the moment, I wish there were more places like 26 Seats!

Complicated Equation- Tribeca, Early Fri. Eve.

Thanks for all the tips! I like Odeon, never been to Blau Gans or Upstairs, but they seem cool too.

The thing is, they're just a tad too fancy. So I've been thinking about dragging her to the East Village to "26 Seats." That seems about right. Thoughts?

Complicated Equation- Tribeca, Early Fri. Eve.

So, this is as much on a lark as it is an attempt to find something I haven't considered. Hope someone can help!

I have an after-work date this Friday with a woman who works by Trinity church. We didn't do the formal dinner thing for our previous dates, but she seemed to want to do it this time, so I agreed.

The thing is, it's still early in the relationship, so I don't think the expense-account Tribeca restaurants would be the right choice. I also have an obligation early the next day, so it might be a short night, and a big production wouldn't be right either.

So, to make this as hard as possible, I'm looking for something quick, relatively inexpensive and romantic in Tribeca. Since we're meeting early -- around 5, 6, 7 -- I don't expect crowds will be a problem.

Searching the archives, I've thought about tapas at Flor de Sol or Giginos in Battery Park. I think tapas is in the vein of activities I'm trying to strike. Since we've shared Asian bites before, I'd like to avoid that. If there are better places, I suppose we could travel away from Tribeca. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Where Can I Get Yangrou Paomo?

I went backpacking across China about this time last year, and had this tasty lamb soup with the flatbread in Xi'an province.

I think the cold weather's reminding me of my trip, and it would be great if I could get a bowl here.

Anyone know if it's available in the tri-state area?
