Texas foodies in Boston for 4 days
We ended up eating at Neptune Oyster, Antico Forno (wife had eaten there years ago, and remembered it better than it was), Durgin-Park and a place named Trattoria Il Panino, as well as at Legal Sea Foods (it was across from the hotel and we were tired) take-out Indian (Kebab Factory) with friends in Somerville, and at Red's in Salem for lunch one day.
We got pastries at Mike's, Modern Pastry, and some place named Lyndell's on Hanover St, and gelato from some place on Salem St.
Great trip- the sights and food were superb!
All were very good- I was particularly impressed by Neptune Oyster and Trattoria Il Panino.
Texas foodies in Boston for 4 days
My wife and I will be in Boston from tomorrow night (10/20/09) through Saturday morning.
We're looking for some good recommendations for authentic local food. In other words, no Chinese, Vietnamese, Mexican, S. American, etc.... (we can get that here just fine!) Just the traditional local cuisine- maybe some good Italian could sneak in there.
We're staying at the Radisson on Stuart St. near downtown, and aren't planning on renting a car, so walking distance, or near public transit is a must.
Thanks in advance!

Need Wedding Cake: Austin, Texas, HELp!
We got married, well... 3 days after the original post (Dec 8, 2007), and we got our cakes from Lavender & Roses(http://lavenderandroses.com).
Their cakes were both delicious (best of the 6 or 7 we sampled) and very good looking and artistic. They made these really, really cool edible poppy flowers that went on the cake and table with it.
We had the White WIne w/ Strawberries, with a Chocolate Fudge groom's cake, if I remember right, with frosting, not fondant.
Recs in Fredericksburg
The Fredericksburg Brewery had a terrific Chicken Fried Steak, and decent beer when my wife and I ate there.
[DFW] San Franciscan turned Texite in Need of EXTREME help
There's a fun Italian place on main street in Grapevine named Napoli's. It's not terribly pretentious, but it's definitely not a chain place, and the owners cook & serve the food, as well as deliver.
It's about 3/4 of the way up Main from 114, and about a block back from NW Hwy on the east side of the street.
In the same area, there's Esparza's, which is on Worth St, about a block east of Main. It's a little old Tex-Mex joint in an old house. Good food, and strong margaritas!
