Well, my friends, you have once again made a superlative recommendation! My friend reports that Temple Bar was perfect; there were lots of post-work people there looking serious about working, but the light was so dim that after a little while she and her hopeful squeeze couldn't see the little numbers any more. So they had to put their work aside and spend a few hours getting to know one another and it's going from there! Thanks
Somerville/Davis Square: 3 Superlative Dishes?
You know, I've had some pretty good fish at Out of the Blue, so don't forget about that. But is it amazing or just pretty darned good? I'd say the latter, which may end up proving your point.

Oh, I HATED that ice cream at Gargoyles! But loved everything else I ate there.
Tacos Lupita now under a new name - What is the scoop?
Oh, Bob -- yes, that red salsa was to die for!

Was that the spaetzle with ham and hazelnuts?
Anyone tried Palm Sugar Thai in Davis Square?
Okay, maybe I'm confused. is it outside of Davis on the way to Porter, i.e. next to where Carberry's used to be?

I think Temple Bar is in the lead! Wish my friend luck.

I think Temple Bar is in the lead here. My friend is going to check it out early. Wish her luck!

Well, you know how it is to be in the thick of a crush. It can be consuming, even at her age (she's younger than me.)

I think it depends on two things: (1) whether they're gazing into one another's eyes, and (2) whether they blush when their coworker comes along! Of course, if their coworker says "Aha!" when he or she sees them and they don't deny his interpretation, then all is lost, or possibly won.
Can you tell I'm getting a vicarious thrill out of all this?
Bubor Cha Cha; what's good?
I'm so sad to report that Bubor Cha Cha no longer serves Malaysian food! It's gone over to all chinese. We ate there in mid-december, and it was time to go back and have more good food, but I couldn't find the dishes we wanted on the menu! What we went for was the coconut/shrimp rise, the chicken lettuce cups, the mango sticky rice, and then we would fill in the edges with beef satay and thai rolls. Very, very sad! Does anyone know why they stopped serving Malaysian food? And they also seem to have lost a good deal of their dinner clientele, which from now on includes me as another gone.

Oh, right --- it was Asian fusion before that.

I agree about Foundry on Elm. Haven't been to Saloon myself, yet. Problem is that when I suggested these, my friend was worried that chances were high that co-workers would stop in for a drink and raise the likelihood of embarrassment or interruption.

I feel out of touch. Where in Davis Square is it?

Just talked to my friend, who is doing her own independent research. (Vested interest!) She told me that someone suggested she try the Temple Bar on Mass Ave. Neither of us have been there. Thoughts?

Or Oleana, or is that simply not a place where one pretends one is working?

What about the Thai restaurant on Cambridge street just out of Inman Square? Sugar and Spice? Spice is Nice? Spice and Ginger? I'm sure someone knows what I mean. I've only been there for lunch, once long ago, so don't know how it feels for dinner, but my friend loves Thai food.

Thanks for pointing me toward the Globe review. I've forwarded it to my friend. I think she's leaning toward Abigail's.

Rose petals! Love it, but not for this dinner. Maybe sheaves of 8.5 x 11 paper.

My friend has a crush on a colleague, and hopes it's reciprocal. She will be having a work-week "working" dinner with this colleague and wants to make it happen in a place where it's possible that the two of them will be able to let down their hair, so to speak, and at least discuss canoodling even if it doesn't happen at that very moment. Booths for privacy would aid the plan. However, it can't be so outrageously romantic that she and her colleague will need to jump guiltily if her other co-workers happen to see them there, i.e. it can't be a restaurant where the sole reason for existence is in support of dragging ones beloved off into a cave by the hair. (Okay, maybe that's not romantic but you know what I mean.)
How to make my cupcakes flat?
Hi. I need to make a bunch of cupcakes, using cake mix, but my wish is that they be flattish on top rather than have nice crowns. I don't want to have to cut the crowns off, but just have them not rise too much. Ideas?
Gevalia coffee. Any opinions?
Gevalia is terrible, IMHO. I buy Cafe Feminino from Grounds for Change, so I'm supporting female coffee farmers in Peru who make a great, tasty, rich and sweet cofee.
Gevalia coffee. Any opinions?
Me three. I actually gave away the coffee, it was so bad, and I'm not a coffee snob.
Help! I need "healthy" ideas for bake sale goods!
Hmmm. Pretzels. Does anyone have a good recipe?

Oh, so true about the shape! I guess I was thinking about dominos!
Help! I need "healthy" ideas for bake sale goods!
Years ago, I perfected the art of making 150 pretty cupcakes in only a few hours, for bake sales. However, we have an upcoming musical-related bake sale that will take place over a few days, (during intermissions of the show) and the school committee has decided that most of the sale goods should be "healthy" (not a well-defined term in this case.)
Another piece of the challenge is that since the musical is "Guys and Dolls", it would be fun to have some sale items that look like dice. So what I'm currently thinking is stuff like whole wheat banana bread in full-size loaves, slice them long way and then into smaller rectangles (dice), ice them with cream cheese frosting and put on six chocolate chips for the spots on the dice.
I could also do a whole grain unsweetened bread with cream cheese, but what would I use for the spots? Not capers -- kids will have to be willing to eat these.
Some kind of bar cookie, also dice-shaped?
These treats also have to be able to be made somewhat in advance and then held until sales time, plus transported from my home to the school. I used to use large foil trays for cupcakes; I could fit 30 cupcakes in one tray, with a heavy foil lid, and that worked very well during transportation. Since we live in the north, the closed containers with cupcakes just stayed frozen or very cold on my back porch, and the icing kept the cake part fresh.
Has anyone else faced this challenge? We used to raise seven hundred dollars during each intermission, which is a lot of money for the school's music programs, by selling cupcakes, brownies, cookies, etc.
We will probably be able to sell some clementines or apples for fifty cents each, but I don't think anyone will buy carrots or celery.

Hey, Stripey: I was intrigued by your mention, at the very top, of bergamot cologne. Are you going to tell us more, or do I need to wander the world until I find you by your delicious fragrance?
