Buenos Aires: 40th birthday restaurant

Thank! Any others you'd add to the list? I am especially looking for food experiences we can't get in SF.

Birthday dinner: fun and "low key" - for a group

Hi,
I have a planning dilemma and can use some help. My husband is turning 40 and we are headed (just us 2) on a trip to Buenos Aires and Rio to celebrate.
He has said that he doesn't want to have a party or anything big to celebrate, but we have friends and family who want to do something. Most of the private room restaurant ideas I have will end up costing too much and will up being the big party that he says he doesn't want.
So... I guess I need some places that are not too expensive, fun, and good for a group of about 20.
San Francisco and Peninsula ideas are welcome.
Thanks!

Buenos Aires: 40th birthday restaurant

Hi all,
My husband and I will be in BA for his 40th birthday later this month. We're from San Francisco and enjoy a wide variety of foods (especially Asian). Some of our best (special occasion) meals in the SF area have been at Ame, Redd, and Jardiniere. We are huge fans of sushi and like trying different ethnic foods.
I was considering Casa Cruz or Astrid & Gaston for the birthday dinner. Any thoughts on that? Recommendations are very welcome - thanks!

La Boheme, Burlingame : any experiences to share?

Hi,

I just found their listing online and am wondering whether it's a nice place for a birthday dinner w/ relatives. How is the food and overall experience?

Thanks

Astaria in San Mateo: recent experiences?

Hi,
I am thinking of having a birthday dinner at Astaria in San Mateo. The location is ideal for my group, but I want to make sure that the food is good too. We'll have a mix of "foodie" and meat & potato folks, but if the restaurant leans more foodie/adventurous, that's OK...

Any other ideas if Astaria is not recommended?

Thanks

Hayes Mansion- Dolce: how's brunch in San Jose?

I just discovered that the Hayes Mansion in San Jose serves Sunday brunch. I know the place as a wedding venue, but never head about it as a dining destination.

Has anyone had brunch there? Would it be a good choice for a birthday?

Thank you!

Madera Rosewood (Menlo) - how is the food/atmosphere there?

Hi,
Does anyone have experiences to share about Madera at the Rosewood Resort in Menlo Park?
I am thinking of having a birthday brunch there. How is the food?

Thanks!

foreign cinema brunch: experiences?

Hi,

I am considering Foreign Cinema for a brunch birthday celebration. Has anyone been there recently? Does it feel festive and of course - how is the food??

Thanks

Outside/garden seating in SF/Peninsula (like @ Brix)

Hi,

Can anyone please suggest a restaurant in SF or on the Peninsula that serves lunch/brunch in a garden-type of atmosphere? (I love the outdoor area at Brix in Napa, but it's not a convenient location for my group...)

Empire Tap Room is one option, but there food is just OK. Any ideas would be appreciated! This is for a birthday celebration.

Birthday lunch in Napa suggestions: outside seating ideal

Hi,

Please suggest places for a nice birthday lunch, preferably with outside seating. Other than Brix, not sure what else fits that description. This will be for about 10 people in September.

Thanks

hamon washoku closing or moving?

Hi,
My husband and I have been meaning to try Hamon Washoku (http://www.hamon-washoku.com/) in San Carlos.

We were walking by the other day and there was no signage at all. Does anyone know if they are closing or what is happening?

They had great review and word-of-mouth...

Thanks

Bouchon or Bistro Jeanty for lunch?

Hi,
I need to decide quickly on which restaurant in Yountville to make lunch reservations for this weekend. My husband and I will attend an event near Yountville on Saturday night and will treat ourselves to lunch the next day.
We ate at Redd last year and loved it. I am leaning towards Bistro Jeanty because of the terrine on the menu.
Any thought?
Thanks

Istanbul in San Carlos: any reviews?

Hmm, that's a thought. I actually was asking that separately of my other question, though...

For my mom's birthday, it looks like we are leaning towards Plumed Horse, but I am still gathering info. :)

Thanks!

Istanbul in San Carlos: any reviews?

Hi,

Has anyone tried a new Turkish restaurant in San Carlos called Istanbul. It looks like they also have a bakery.

I am wondering if it's worth trying.

Thanks!

Silicon Valley restaurant w/ private room, good food for 60th bday? (30 people)

thanks for the suggestions - that's a good start!

Silicon Valley restaurant w/ private room, good food for 60th bday? (30 people)

Hi,

I posted yesterday, but I think for the group we're looking at, a Silicon Valley location would be best. Looking for a restaurant to host my mom's 60th birthday dinner. She really enjoys good food and a lively "European" atmosphere.

Any recommendations?

Sent Sovi for Bday dinner for 30 people?

Hi,

Any opinions on Sent Sovi for a 60th birthday dinner celebration?

Thanks!

restauant for 60th bday (30 people)

Hi,

Please provide recommendations for a restaurant for my mom's 60th birthday. An ideal restaurant will have a private room and possibly some sort of music or entertainment. Obviously the food and drinks have to be good too, otherwise I wouldn't be consulting this site.
I am looking for ideas beyond the "fancy SF restaurants" like Gary Danko. Suggestions in the South Bay/Peninsula also very welcome.

Thanks in advance!

Close to Anaheim places to try?

Hi,
Please provide suggestions of foodie/interesting places close to Anaheim. (We'll be taking 4 year old to Disneyland this weekend.) Reasonably priced and available for seating this weekend are ideal.
We're from the Bay Area, so eat lots of sushi/Chinese. We're pretty adventurous eaters, though. Anything we should definitely hit up in the LA area?
Thanks for any suggestions!

Visiting from SF Area - need ideas

Hi,

We'll be going to Disneyland this weekend and would like some ideas for dinner places that are reasonably close to Anaheim. Food that is not as available in the Bay Area would be wonderful. We'll be with our generally well-behaved almost 5-year-old.

Also interested in KoreaTown suggestions.

Thanks!

Desserts @ Zibbibo?

Hi,

I am hosting a birthday lunch at Zibbibo in Palo Alto. I have the option of having a Zibbibo-baked birthday cake or the regular desserts on their menu.

Has anyone had experiences with either? Recommendation, please.

Also looking for suggestions on what to order from the lunch menu. This will be for a group of about 18.

Thanks.

Zibbibo or Scott's Seafood for bday lunch?

thanks for the responses. i think that i will reserve the middle room at zibbibo. it seems to have more of a fun atmosphere, and last time the food was pretty good, especially the israeli cigars and other appetizers.

Zibbibo or Scott's Seafood for bday lunch?

Hi,

I am planning a first birthday lunch that will include 18 adults, 2 children, and 2 babies (including birthday girl).

I am looking for a place that is nice but child-friendly and quiet enough for conversations.

Please let me know if I should plan on Scott's Seafood or Zibibbo. Both are in Palo Alto.

Thanks!

Tea-party ambience, but with more food?

OK, since it's hard to find a nice restaurtant in a garden setting (any suggestions w/in a reasonable price?), I was just looking at some of the English tea type of places (like Lovejoy's, Lisa's Tea Treasures).

Although the ambience would be nice for a 1st birthday for a little girl, I think all of the male relatives would complain about the lack of food...

Does anyone have any ideas for a restaurant in the Peninsula/SF area? I am trying to avoid a hotel champage brunch, but so far not coming up with good options.

Any suggestions welcome!

Garden-setting (like Filoli) for bday lunch

Hi,

I just had the idea that Filoli gardens in Woodside would be a beautiful place for a birthday lunch. The person I spoke to on the phone was VERY discouraging of such an idea. She actually said, "We don't allow the singing of happy birthday, and our restaurant manager is pretty sensitive to that."

Does anyone have a suggestion for me? This is for a first birthday lunch for a baby girl and about 20 other relatives.

I am trying to stay away from hotel champage brunches, but if anyone has suggestions on the Peninsula (other than Bay 223), I'd be interested in that.

Thanks!

Nice brunch/lunch appropriate for 1st bday (adults mostly)

Thanks for forwarding the similar request. Unfortunately, dim sum is not an option for this group. Something like Bay 223 (hotel sofitel) would be a better fit. I don't particularly like Bay 223 and last time I was there you had to treck pretty far to get your food, so it never felt like everyone was there at the same time.

I might even prefer a place with a private room, if the price range was under $40 pp.

Nice brunch/lunch appropriate for 1st bday (adults mostly)

Hi,

I need to find a place to hold a brunch/lunch for my daughter's first birthday. This will be for immediate family, aunts/uncles, etc. In addition to the birthday girl will be 3 other kids 5 and under.

This is a group that likes champagne brunches a lot, but I am not sure that is what I want to do. Someplace on the Peninsula or easy parking part of SF (like Cliffhouse area) would be ideal.

I am actually considering Cliff House - haven't been there since the remodel.

Thanks for any suggestions!

What to order at Redd?

Going to Redd in Yountville for the first time. What should we order? My husband and I like a wide variety of foods.

Thanks!

Family friendly restaurant in San Francisco with dancing

Russian restaurants, like "Russia House" have dancing and food. Most parties there are family celebrations and you'll see all ages (very old and very young) and styles there.

Kid-friendly in Yountville/St. Helena

Thank you all so much for the suggestions!!
