Piramide - 5th Avenue between 12-13th
I have not tried Piramide yet, though I intend to try it this week. Meanwhile, their website has lots of background info about their executive chef (David Sharp), and the idea behind their menu, etc. You can find more information here http://mexpiramide.com/executive_chef
I am anxious to hear some hounds report about this place....
lunch breaks in Dumbo?
Almondine - for their soups (outstanding) and quiches... Miso sushi is mediocre, but I end up there almost once a week out of desperation. Desperate for some more options in Dumbo..maybe after all of the yuppieminium's are built, some more options will follow.
Lucali: Open on July 4th?
Lucali's is closed today (as they are every Tuesday), so I have no way of finding out if they will be open for dinner tomorrow, and I would hate to show up there with a bottle of wine just to end up drinking it on somebodys stoop nearby.
Have any of you lovely chowhound's been there the past couple of days - if you can shed any insight into this, please let me know.
Franny's slump?
Forget Franny's... make your way to Lucali's for a great pizza. (nothing else on the menu but pizza at this time, but for a second last night I thought I was eating one of Domenic's creations.. he could sue for copyright infringement!
Most underrated in Park Slope?
Wow, reading this today was like reading two long posts "underrated in park slope", and 'Cafe Steinhof, is it safe?'. As for some other underrated spots, you might take a gamble with Milan on 5th Ave and 22nd St. They serve Slovakian food (or is it Czech food... don't kill me!), with absolutely the worst atmosphere of any restaurant in Park Slope! But the soups are good, and the beef goulash was excellent the last time I was there. Kitchen Bar has definitely gotten better - still not a 'destination' restaurant by any means, but if you live in the south slope, it is worth checking out - great atmosphere, freindly staff, and fairly simple food, prepared well (1/2 chicken w/marmalade, pork chops, etc.) Their kitchen stays open until 1am, which is later than most joints as far south as 20th. Oh yeah - the Mexican bakery on the NE Corner of 21st and 5th - they serve tasty chicken tacos late nights. (They probably serve them all day, but I always wondered why a 'bakery' was so packed after 1am until recently...
Stone Park: I've had it with the attitude
If the owners had opened this restaurant 15 years ago, when the only other high end dining option on 5th Ave. was Cucina, they might have gotten away with this. But with Al di la, Convivium, Tempo, and Applewood all walking distance, and a dozen other quality restaurants close as well, there is just no reason to put up with it. I had another good meal at the Farm last night, and although the food was a little late getting to the table, it only meant a 2nd bottle of wine for my group. Everytime I eat their, the host/hostess and waitstaff are so accomodating and friendly, that it makes for an experience akin to going to a 'neighborhood' joint. Maybe Stone Park has aspirations of joining Saul in 'Michelin-land', but the food is not that original or amazing to overcome the rudeness/high prices...
Booooo to Mexicali! A nacho-hunter reports.
Just don't order anything else at Lobos - Nachos and ritas... that's all the place is good for (If that).
What's the scoop on Bar Minnow?
Great... ANOTHER bank in the south slope. Admittedly, most of the ones that have opened in the past 2 years have opened on 5th Ave., not 7th.. Why doesn't somebody put a pharmacy there, the south slope is severely underserved in that regard.
Yes, I am kidding.
Some good quiche in Brooklyn...
Well.. if DUMBO is indeed within your range, then I have your place: Almondine. It is right across the street from jacques torres chocolates, and has delicious quiche, pastries, soups, etc... worth checking out if you are having a jones.
New New Orleans Restaurant in Park Slope!
Too true (about taking a couple of weeks)... don't even get me started about my disasterous first visit to Franny's..
Anyway - I went to No No on their 3rd night. The food was good, but not great. I had a gumbo that sounded great on paper (w/cracklings and duck), but had a thin, fairly tasteless roux. The crawfish etoufee was very good - but then, I thought it - along with the other items on the menu - were overpriced ($16.00). Anybody else dine here yet?
Other Sushi places in Brooklyn besides Geido
Between Taro, Geido and Blue Ribbon (I have not gone to Gen), you have all the sushi/Japanese places you will need in Park Slope!
Night & Day closes - "Biscuit" is coming...
the pies and cookies were top-shelf, but who knows if Maio Martinez is coming along to the new Biscuit... Also: the once a month whole pig roast never dissapointed.
New New Orleans Restaurant in Park Slope!
Has anybody been able to verify that this restaurant is open? If so - has anybody checked it out yet? Dying to know...
YUM! Sheep Station, on 4th Ave down from BAM
Had a good meal last night - Meat Pie, with beet salad - and a glass of Aussie vino. I will definitely be back to try the moule frites, the menu seemed limited, but I liked the vibe of the place (and the prices).
Solo Eating in Park Slope?
If you are at Daisey's - at 5th Ave. and 9th St.... you could do a lot better. First of all, if Greasy Spoons are your thing.. try Katina's on 7th Ave. and 12th St. Not much better... but better. But even closer to Daisey's you can find
Kinara - 5th Ave near 13th, good Indian food, 1/2 price lunch menu
El Taco Nuevo Mexico - decent taco joint on 5th @ 12th, open late
Bar Toto - better for atmosphere - decent burgers and paninis though - on 6th ave. and 11th.
Kitchen Bar - 6th Ave. @ 20th - good bar for solo dining... burgers, pastas, and fresh specials
