Pork Chops with Cherry Sauce

I don't keep cooking wine in the house because I'm a recovering alcoholic and it's too "slippery" to have it around. What can I substitute for the port? Also, tatamagouche, please explain the Peter Brady comment. I watched the show, but I'm afraid all that stuck in my head was "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha"!
