late night birthday dinner friday: Luke or St. Marie

I know they're different price points and probably different vibes, but does anyone feel strongly one way or the other? We're a table of 4, going for a later table, and we have one vegetarian among us. Whaddya think?

Best Potato Kugel in Brooklyn?

Anyone have any new ideas to throw into this discussion? Obviously Gebrokts don't matter this time of year, but I personally believe matzo meal is part of what makes the potato kugel

Veggie friendly chow worthy stop between rockland cty and ithaca?

hey all-

about to go on a five day adventure with mrs. trane for our anniversary. Starting at Iron Forge Inn on Thursday night, the Storm King Arts center on friday morning. Moosewood somewhere in there. That's all I got, really.

First up, looking for a vegetarian and ominvore friendly lunch stop between rockland and ithaca for our friday lunch. Ideally not too far off 17.

any new veggie treats?

My annual revival of this thread. Anything new in vegetarian deliciousness in the easy this year? I've heard some great things about some pop up spots around town, anyone know where those will be for Jazzfest? My wife loved our breakfast trip to the Surrey Cafe last year, complete with Veggie sausage and stealing some of my bananas foster french toast.

Best Duck Dish in Westchester

We went with Zephs'. Quick review:

1) Appetizers- I had the seafood gumbo, i thought it was very good, but i've been spoiled by several trips to New Orleans, so not amazing. My Dad enjoyed the kafta. Mom skipped an appetizer, my wife enjoyed the soup.

2) Dinner- salads came out next, with mango (which was delicious) but with iceberg (which was kinda surprising). very good bleu cheese over mine.

3) My Wife got the veggie dumplings as her entree, enjoyed them. My mom and my sister got the Scallops, which they both liked. Dad very much enjoyed the duck, really liked it! I got the same, and i liked it alot, but I've been spoiled by some really delicious duck dishes, so very good, but not great.

4) dessert: the chocolate mousse cake was more like a flourless in texture, and it was quite delicious with the malted vanilla ice cream. My sister and wife split the irish trifle and enjoyed it. misplacing what mom and dad had for dessert but they liked it as well.

5) Service: very attentive and friendly. one of the staff members did seem a little nervous, but everyone was lovely.

overall: this place was very good. gracious, attentive service and very good food. While I wouldn't call it "eh" by any stretch, I will say I was not bowled over. Definitely a solid choice, and will probably be back, but wasn't totally wowed.

Best Potato Kugel in Brooklyn?

hey folks,

especially with pesach approaches, it is mind boggling to me that i've lived in brooklyn for two years but haven't found potato kugel on the same level as Season's (Supersol) or Riverdale Kosher Marketplace. I leave right near Crown Heights, travel to Williamsburg frequently, and am willing to travel further to snag some good potato kugel for next week. Help!

Best New York shopping for Kosher l'Pesach kitniyot

Holy Land is where we usually go. Ours being a mixed marriage (wife eats kitniyos, i don't) we don't get a huge amount of stuff, usually some rice, beans, humous, a couple other things. Good spot, but it's a smaller market so not a ton of everything

store/deli made potato kugel in Brooklyn?

So far, everything I've had measures up neither to Season's (formerly Supersol) or Riverdale Kosher Marketplace. This seems impossible. anyone?

Veggie friendly big group meals between Dupont and Silver Spring

NY hound in for Dinner tonight and Brunch tomorrow. Looking for the following:

1 Dinner, veggie friendly, good for hangin for a bit, decent for a decent sized group (thinking 10-12). Good bourbon list would be nice but less important than it being good for vegetarians and omnivores.

1 brunch starting around 10:30am, meeting the same description.

We have a car and don't mind driving. Some folks might need a place accessible by bus/train.

Any help would be awesome!

Best lunch between sea-tac and port angeles?

shoot, shoulda checked this again last night. yes, the plan is to head south, through tacoma and back up north, and avoid the ferry. So, between the airport, tacoma, and port angeles, any thoughts? thanks!

Best lunch between sea-tac and port angeles?

Hey greater seattle folks,

checking back in as my plan has changed and now am heading towards the wedding from Seatac instead of into Seattle first. So I'm looking for a great lunch spot on the road. We'll have been up since 5 or so NY time, so we're probably looking for someplace closer to Tacoma than Port Angeles, but am happy to take all suggestions. would like to keep it under 20 bucks per person.

participant 1 is a pescatarian that is mostly vegetarian but also eats fish with scales sometimes.
participant 2 is an omnivore that enjoys shrimp, crap and lobster, but not so much the fish with scales and doesn't really eat indian or ethiopian food.

unless its amazing, we've got plenty of italian, greek, middle eastern, and latin american food here. someplace uniquely washington state would be great, but i'll also settle for a tasty inexpensive meal on the road. Tacoma recs are welcome, as are any road spots between the airport and olympic park.

thanks!

Best lunch between sea-tac and port angeles?

hey PNW hounds,

getting up again in a few hours to hop on a seven hour flight to your coast. My plans were just changed, so instead of having some time in Seattle proper to grab lunch then head to Olympic, we don't. So I'm looking for a great lunch spot on the road. We'll have been up since 5 or so NY time, so we're probably looking for someplace closer to Tacoma than Port Angeles, but am happy to take all suggestions. would like to keep it under 20 bucks per person.

Three unique seattle meals for NYers...

Hey Seattle Hounds,

never been to your fair city. My wife and I are coming out that way for a wedding in Olympic Park, and are going to have time for three or so meals: lunch friday and then lunch and dinner sunday (and maybe a snack or something).

parameters:
1) my wife is primarily a vegetarian, but will eat fish with scales sometimes
2) I'm an omnivore, except the seafood I like is not fish with scales, but shrimp/crab/lobster variety
3) no ethiopian or indian food. also, unless it's truly outstanding, we have plenty of solid italian, greek, middle eastern, and latin american food here in nyc that we have on a fairly consistant basis.

I suppose what I'm really looking for is: uniquely seattle, great seafood, and vegetarian friendly (but not exclusively vegetarian as the whole wedding weekend will be and if I can't have some meat or crab i might go bonkers)

The lunches should be less than 20 pp for everything (including tax and tip, and we're not huge wine drinkers at lunch, so you don't have to consider that). The dinner probably shouldn't be more than 30 pp for eerything.

Lastly, if you've got something awesome that doesn't fit these parameters but is a must go, make the case for it here anyway.

THANKS!

Recs for Anniversary weekend in Detroit/Ann Arbor/surrounding areas

Hey all,

NY hound in town for a wedding and m'lady and I decided to make a long weekend out of it. To wit, we'll be around Detroit Friday September 2nd through Labor Day, Sept 5th. The wedding is on sunday, and the plan is to be in Detroit for the Jazz Festival Kickoff, either hearing more music or maybe visiting farmers markets/other stuff saturday/wedding sunday.

My wife is a fins and scales only pesca-vegetarian. I'm an omnivore.

Looking for a few days worth of meals. local, funky spots. emphasis on veggie friendly. Restaurants, but also I remember the Royal Oak Farmer's market being a noshfest! Not Indian or Ethopian but open to most other things- we live in nyc so we have pretty good italian fare, so probably wouldn't be headed there. In terms of price range, would like to keep everything mostly cheaper, except for Friday night dinner, which will be our 4th anniversary. We're staying downtown Detroit friday night, Dearborn saturday, and Ann Arbor Sunday. We'll have a car and don't mind travelling some for a really good meal.
