Tallula's in Chapel Hill

On Yelp there's some griping about the wait staff. This comment sums it up:

"They are, in short, haughty, rude, and snobby."

The consensus is that the food is good, if albeit overpriced, but the service spoils the experience.

Has that been your experience? I'd like to give it a try but I don't want to deal with a haughty wait staff.

Looking for Dinner near the Swan & Dolphin - Orlando

Next week I'll be held hostage at the Swan and Dolphin (conference). I've been to the Blue Zoo and liked it, but would like to try some other places off-property. I don’t have a car and would like to avoid long cab rides. I've been to Café Tu Tu Tango and The Funky Monkey and liked both of them, but they seem to be a 20-minute ride away. Is there anything non-Disney that's close to the S&D? Any cuisine is fine except seafood, and I'm trying to keep the max entrée price in the mid 20's.

Dining in O'Fallon and Nearby

Lots of good recommendations for me to investigate - thanks! It looks like Farmhaus, Salt, and Home Wine Kitchen are closed on Tuesdays.

Any feedback on Araka or Barcelona Tapas?

Dining in O'Fallon and Nearby

I usually set a top price for a dinner entree at mid-upper $20's. For example, The Crossing looks good but is a little bit out of my price range.

Dining in O'Fallon and Nearby

My trip to O'Fallon, MO has been cancelled, and instead, I'm going to be staying Creve Coeur, near the intersection of I-270 and Route 364/Page Ave. I'm happy to search the archives but should I look for "Creve Coeur", "Maryland Heights", or something else? I'm not interested in seafood, and like most anything else, especially "New American".

Dining in O'Fallon and Nearby

Sorry, that's O'Fallon, MO.

Dining in O'Fallon and Nearby

I searched for "O'Fallon" but didn't come up with much. Can somebody provide some better search terms? I'll have a car and can drive to nearby towns.

Thanks.

Need early weekday breakfast in Portland

I ended up at Marcy's because I was running late every morning and needed something close. It was inexpensive and the omelets that I had were fine. Then it was off to Coffee by Design.

Need early weekday breakfast in Portland

Are there any good breakfast places near the Holiday Inn/Eastland Park hotels that open early (6:00-6:30 am) on weekdays? Hot Suppa was recommended in the archives, but their Web site says that they open at 7:00 am.

Thanks.

Northwoods Area of Charleston

I searched the board and found a lot of great places in central Charleston, but is there anything notable in/near the Northwoods area? Any cuisine except purely seafood.

Jaleo vs. Firefly

I'll be in town for the first time in a couple of weeks and would like to try tapas. How do these two compare, or is this an apples-to-oranges comparison?

Level 2 in Greensboro?

Has anyone been to Level 2 on Elm St?

Emerywood in High Point?

Has anyone been to Emerywood Fine Foods in High Point?

Their YouTube video says they have been a "High Point favorite for over 15 years" ;-)

Question about Lula

I dine out a lot when traveling, and I usually pay $2.50-ish for a cup of coffee at nice restaurants. Yes, in the overall scheme of things a buck is no big deal, but it struck me as a gouge. I haven't seen the $4-5 cup of drip ... yet ;-)

We almost had the sweet corn creme brulee instead of the short rib sliders; maybe next time we're in Chicago we'll start off with that. It's a great restaurant. We liked the whole/half portions, which allowed us to try several different things.

Question about Lula

We ended up at Sable Kitchen & Bar for dinner, and just stayed for dessert. We split:

Moroccan Spiced Almonds and Cashews (to go, for the plane ride home)

Wisconsin Fried Cheese Curds with Spicy Ketchup Glaze

Mini Wild Mushroom Veggie Burgers with Red Onion Jam, Goat Cheese

Roasted Butternut Squash-Apple Soup with Pumpkin Seed Oil

Bison Short Rib Sliders with Root Beer Glaze

Pumpkin Mousse Tart with Gingersnap Crust, Candied Pecans

Everything was very good, but we thought that the Short Rib Sliders would be better than they were. The spiced nuts were heavy on the spices, masking a lot of the nut flavor.

My only complaint is that paying $3.50 each for a cup of drip coffee is outrageous. (we didn't want a refill). I emailed the General Manager and got this response, in part:

"We had our coffee priced based on what a number of our competitors were charging and then increased half-way through the year when the company we purchase our coffee from significantly increased their prices due to higher energy and transport costs on their end. [...] We try and alleviate some of the burden on our guests by offering unlimited complimentary refills for a coffee that is expensive to internationally import."

If that is the case, then they need to find another (domestic) supplier.

Question about Lula

Hot Chocolate looks great, but sadly, they are closed Mondays.

http://www.hotchocolatechicago.com/

It doesn't have to be coffee/dessert place. A restaurant with a good pastry chef (like Hot Chocolate) will work. We're not opposed to sitting at a bar.

Question about Lula

Responding to previous questions...

Yes, we are referring to Lula Cafe in Logan Square.

Yes, we are Blue Lining.

We're staying near ORD on a Monday and taking the Blue Line into town for dinner. We have tentative plans downtown, and thought it might be nice to stop at Lula on the way back to the hotel for coffee and dessert. Maybe we're trying to cram too much into one day?

Question about Lula

I was thinking of stopping at Lula for coffee and dessert on the way back to ORD (after having dinner downtown).

Do they hava a bar/lounge area that would accomodate this (2 people)?

Thanks.

Anything notable near Hogg Memorial Auditorium (24th and Guadalupe)

"What time? To eat there or to go? "

Monday, Nov 8th at about 6 pm. To eat there.

I'll be on foot (attending the ACL Simulcast at Hogg).

Anything notable near Hogg Memorial Auditorium (24th and Guadalupe)

I think I know the answer ... but is there anything beyond usual college campus chains near Hogg Memorial Auditorium? Any type of cuisine is fine as long as not solely seafood.

What happend to The Bicycle Bistro

Thanks for the info. No special interest in the neighborhood (staying at the Renaissance Inner Harbor). Just asked about Bicycle because we enjoyed it in the past. Kali's Mezza and The Helmand have been good to us, too.

Off to do more searching...

What happend to The Bicycle Bistro

I had a great meal there when I was last in Baltimore, but it appears to be closed now. Did the chef open a different restaurant?

1790 in Savannah

I had a good meal at 17hundred90 in Savannah several years ago. Is it still good?

Need Recs for Blowing Rock, NC

Not much turned up in a search other than a positive recommendation of Storie Street Grill, and a not so good review of Crippen's.

We'll be staying in the vicinity of Morris St and Main St, and could use breakfast, lunch and dinner (and coffee!) recommendations.

Chocolate in Hawaii

I did see Malie Kai chocolate bars at the Foodland in Ala Moana center for about $4-$5 for a small bar. The label did indicated that the origin was Hawaii (Oahu I believe).

That seems to be the only one of Hawiian origin, and I may end up going with it.

Mahalo!

Chocolate in Hawaii

Mahalo for the pointer to Honolulu Chocolate Factory:

http://honoluluchocolate.com

Their Web says, "Hawaii's most exquisite chocolate", so I guess it must be good ;-)

Chocolate in Hawaii

Is Hawaii "known" for any special varieties of chocolate? I'm looking for something uniquely Hawaiian, especially dark chocolate. The woman at the front desk of the hotel recommended Hawaiian Host, but after seeing it in every ABC store, I'm skeptical.

I'm in Waikiki, if that matters...

Thanks.

Need recs near Fairmont in San Jose

I'll be staying at the Fairmont for a few nights without a car, and need breakfast and 4 dinner ideas. Here's what I have come up with so far:

Breakfast: Flames, and/or something quick and close

Dinner 1: Loft (travel day, need something easy and agreeable)

Dinner 2: 71 St. Peter

Dinner 3: Picasso's Tapas

Dinner 4: E&O Trading Company, or Hanuman Thai, or House of Siam, or Amber India, or Zeni Ethiopian (if I'm with an adventurous group)

Coffee: Any locally-owned coffee shops nearby?

Any thoughts or suggestions?

If you had to choose between Hanuman Thai or House of Siam, which would you choose?

Thanks.

Late night coffee/snack in NODA (Charlotte)

OK, what is a jager bomb??

Late night coffee/snack in NODA (Charlotte)

I'll be in the NODA area this Saturday, and need to find a spot for a decent cup of coffee/snack before heading out on a long drive. The time will probably be after 11:00 pm. I'm hoping to find something better than highway rest stop sludge!
