Girls' Weekend/Bachelorette in SAVANNAH - Foodie Recs Needed!
Bars, all right by City Market; Lulu's Chocolate Bar, Seed Eco-Lounge, Rogue Water, The Rail, Bacchus Wine Lounge.
Lunch or picnic on Telfair Square, Papillote. You can drink alcoholic beverages anywhere downtown as long as it's out of a plastic cup. Don't like a bar? Get a go-cup.
Shopping; The Salt Table.
Wow...this years SC oysters are intense!
We steamed 100 Wassaw Sound clams last night which were just excellent. The blue crabs have been plentiful and tasty this year also.
Chow recs needed for trip to Charleston, Savannah, and Hilton Head
On your way from Charleston to Savannah you can cover Southern, Lowcountry and BBQ all in one place at Duke's BBQ in Ridgeland. Hwy 17 merges with I-95 at Point South and exits at Ridgeland about 12 miles later. Go through town toward Hardeeville/Savannah and it is on your left. From there continue on 17 to Savannah.
It's a serve- yourself buffet with BBQ, fried chicken, hash and rice, vegetables and desserts. Open Thursday through Saturday. Same kind of food as Mrs. Wilkes or Paula Deen's without the wait or crowds or fame. Around $10 per person.
If your student likes pizza be sure to hit Vinnie Van Go-Go's at City Market. Cash only.

Tybee Island - Restaurant Recs and Where to Buy Fresh Seafood
Huc-a-poo's is a lot of fun in a bohemian atmosphere. Good pizzas whole or by the slice. A slice is a quarter pizza, so you might start with one. Knucklehead nachos are good too.
Bowie's Seafood at the first traffic light is the best seafood market on Tybee. The local shrimp season just got started on Wednesday, so you're in luck. Tybee Market IGA also sells fresh local shrimp, as well as killer store-made sausage. Grill some sausage, boil up some shrimp, maybe some red potatoes and corn, open a cold malt beverage, and enjoy.
Beaufort SC Lunch
Besides Plum's, Luther's and Panini's overlook the waterfront park with outside tables. They're just a few doors apart and easily compared to see which suits you best.
Savannah: looking for moderately priced dining
All excellent suggestions. Vinnie's delivers, but is also great for outdoor dining and people watching. Not open for lunch weekdays. Cash only.
Papillote for takeout and a picnic on Telfair Square or back at the house.
Fish camp or Southern/Soul food near statesboro, waynesboro, swainsboro for lunch Thursday?
Boyd's in Statesboro has a good BBQ/southern buffet. They usually have whole fried catfish and the smoked chicken is very good. Standalone building with BBQ heritage.
The Beaver House is a historic house in downtown Statesboro. They serve family-style at your own table. Good southern cooking in a nice setting.
The Basil Pot in Columbia S.C.
They used to have all the spinach lasagna and wine you wanted on Thursday nights. Great fun.
We owned a copy of their cookbook but I'm afraid it went when I thinned the collection a couple of years ago.
Good luck!
Standing Rib Roast and a Convection Oven - do I need to modify my recipe?
If your oven has the 'convection roast' setting on it, that's what I use for the heat blast. It brings the fan and broiler element into play.
Recipe for South Carolina mustard barbecue sauce?
Johnny Harris makes a serviceable mustard-based sauce. It's in the local grocery stores and here;

Savannah Lunch
The restaurants near Memorial tend to be take-out or quick lunch places. Barnes is a sit-down restaurant with several fried seafood options. No alcohol. Good sweet tea.
Down Waters a few blocks further is the Exchange Tavern, with food and ambiance a notch up from Barnes.

Food markets in Savannah?
Try Polk's Produce at 530 E Liberty. They also do home-cooking lunches.
Davis Produce on Hwy 80 on Whitemarsh Island is also a nice stop if you're on the way to Tybee Island.
Parker's Gourmet Market is a convenient place to pick up some goodies besides produce.

I liked it a lot also. Especially their chicken livers appetizer. I believe it was this past spring when they closed.
Geneva's is also closed.

Bistro Savannah is defunct. Make reservations if you go to Garibaldi's. B Matthews is casual.
Savannah lunch ideas - please confirm or offer new suggestions
The weather right now is perfect for al fresco lunching. I suggest on Friday strolling up Barnard St to Broughton and getting a couple of items to go from Papillote. Go back across to Telfair Square and have a picnic. Adult beverages are okay as long as they're in a plastic cup. Stop in The Distillery on your way back to the hotel for a look around.
On Saturday the traffic on Liberty will be lighter and an outdoor table at Soho South would be pleasant. Another option is an outdoor table at Vinnie Van Go Go's at City Market. Pizza by the slice, salads and people watching. Cash only.
The Pink House may have garden dining available for brunch.
Authentic hush puppies in Savannah?
The Oyster Bar on River Street should have them. The one on Wilmington Island does, as does the Elegant Pelican, same owner. They're mildly sweet and served with honey butter. They're gratis with entrees, served as an appetizer. I've seen people ruin their appetite for dinner by overdoing the hush puppies.
I can't vouch for the current quality of the rest of the menu. You can go in and just order a basket of hush puppies and a beverage.
Vegetarian/Vegan in Savannah?
Brighter Day at the bottom of Forsyth Park will have some choices. It's a store with some prepared foods to go. Sentient Bean next door might also have some qualifying items.
Alligator Soul has a high-end vegetable plate entree.

Korean BBQ in SC/Savannah?
Topsail at the Tybee Marina has some Korean dishes, including BBQ. I haven't tried the Korean items yet, so can't comment on them. Everything I've tried there has been quite good, though.
Only 1 Day in Savannah - Where to Get the Best Lunch?
Another representative Southern luncheon buffet in Sylvania is R&D's Steaks and Seafood, on Hwy 301 on the north side of town. It's a good-sized place with a fair variety on the buffet and a selection of desserts.
I've never been to Pop's.
If you want one in Savannah without the waiting in line try the Fairmont.

Macelwees on Tybee Island?
I haven't eaten at McElwee's recently, but the last time it was your average serviceable seafood spot.
The new hot spot is Tybee Island Social Club, in the 1300 block of Butler. Reasonable prices, drink specials ($2 Red Stripe), unusual tacos, etc. They got a write-up in yesterdays paper.
Topsail out at Tybee Marina on Lazaretto Creek has a very pleasant outdoor bar and tables. Excellent fried seafood, a fish taco made with seared tuna, and some Korean/Asian dishes.
There's always Huc-a-poos if you're looking for kid-friendly and pizza.
Trip to Savannah/Tybee Island. Please help with dining itinerary
Sadly, Bistro Savannah is closed. It's sister restaurant, Garibaldi's, is a few doors down.
Los Arcos, Brunswick, GA
Their menu looks very interesting, relatively authentic Mexican.
Anyone tried it?
Savannah, HiltonHead Island, Tybee, Beaufort,St Helena Island and Murrells Inlet
Bonna Bella Yacht Club in Savannah would be a good choice, if you can find it. It's definitely off the beaten path. Really good food, and on the water.

If you're at the Shrimp Shack you might as well stop in the Johnson Creek Tavern for a cold one. My food experiences there have widely varied.
We stopped in Boondock's (which you'll pass) two Sundays ago and didn't bother to stay for lunch, service was nonexistent.
