Review of my Vegas trip
Been back a few weeks but been to busy to post. I was in Vegas for a Convention April 15-20 stayed at Gold Coast were wehad to eat most meals
Sunday April 15
got in for dinner ate at Ping Pang Pong- shared orange beef and Green Tea Shrimp with my wife, plus the sesame Shrimp roll app. Orange Beef excellent the Shrimp were rather boring. Still reasonably priced and we were happy.
Monday April 16
breakfast- Ports-O- Call Buffet- cheap and pleanty of choices, nothing bad nothing amazing.
Lunch-Red Zone Sports Bar- horrible service mediocre wings
Dinner- Ill Postrio- Wolfgang Pucks place at Venetian- I had the Meatball Pizza that was dry and over priced. Could get 100 better pizzas some out of the frozen food section of my grocery store. My wife had the Ravoli- too few and also dry. Her $15 sald was good but this was an over priced Vegas meal that sucked.
Tuesday April 17
Breakfast- Posts-O-Call- same as before except tried a breakfast burrito that wasn't good
Lunch- Noodle Exchange- decent Kung Poa Chicken at discount price- not bad not worth going back for
Dinner- supplied by convention
Wed April 18
Breakfast- TGI Fridays- really not a bad cheap breakfast
lunch- 24/7 Cafe- The Palms- had really good Mac n Cheese with Lobster meat- my wife had a good salad with chicken. very good meal decent priced
Dinner - provided by convention
Thurs April 19
Breakfast-Java Vegas-coffee and bagels- they didn't mess that up
lunch- Mesa Grill-Caesars Palce- one of the best burgers I ever had very good, fair priced, my wife had the same.
dinner- Mon Ami gabi- in Paris casino- once again had a great steak at a great price both of us, we always go back here when in Vegas
Fri April 20
breakfast- Blue Burrito at Airport- what do you expect from a breakfast burrito at the airport
Best Chinese Restaurant on the Strip?
ate Ping Pang Pong last year and returning in April and its on my list to eat at least one time if not more since Im staying at the Gold Coast
budget dining in Vegas in April
I have added both Bradley Ogden and Burger bar to my list some friends have told me BLT Burger at the Mirage and Mesa Grill
budget dining in Vegas in April
also if I was looking for a really good burger (under $20) for lunch where should I go? Trying not to have to venture too far down the strip taking the shuttle from Gold Coast to Wild Bills, so something in that area. Ceasars, Bellagio, Paris, etc?
budget dining in Vegas in April
has anyone tried the Po Boys at Big Akl's at the Orleans? Are they close to authentic or basic casino version?
budget dining in Vegas in April
I am coming back to Vegas for a convention in mid April and will be staying at the Gold Coast (where the convention is at) needs some dining choices for the trip we have 2 dinners already taken care of with the convention but need lunches and some other dinners but we are on a budget (2 of us me and my wife) we won't have a car but the Gold Coast has a decent shuttle to the strip. Last year we did a good job on staying within our budget (most expensive meal was at Mon Ami Gabi and even then under $100) Ping Pang Pong is in the Gold Coast and good for at least 1 or 2 meals while we are there (thats is a great price range for lunches) not the biggest fans of buffets looking for good food, good price and within our transportation area.
Coming To San Francisco around New Years Eve
a report back. Because we eneded up having to stay out by the airport in Brisbane wedid not have a Great food experience in SF. It was always a time issue, place issue or luck. Limited to public transportation we ate where we could wfind and had to deal with that.
Wed- lunch at Zebec (hotel restuauant in the Radisson)- actually was fine
Wed dinner- Scomas - ok but over priced
Thurs Breakfast- Zebec- way over priced for basic breakfast
Thurs lunch- Boudin- my wife had to go there for chowder in a bread bowl (she was happy with it)
Thurs dinner- The Grove- (couldn't get in Zuni or Hays street grill quickly as our friends were on a time schedule) this wasn't bad for what it was (sandwiches and salads) had drinks at Hays street Grill later on
FRi breakfast- Zebec again and same as before ($35 for a basic breakfast sucked)
Fri lunch- New Moon in Chinatown- this was very good and we were happy, it was raining and we didn't want to keep looking for suggested stops here.
Fri dinner- Burger King (yep at midnight when concert let out and trying to make that last BART back to hotel we had no other choice- beyond sucking this meal was
Sat Breakfast- Cable Car Cafe- OK pretty basic and not cheap either
Sat lunch- Frankie's Bohemian - this wasn't bad, a friend took us there, wished there were more Bohemian choices (like Perogis) but not bad
Sat dinner- (had reservations at Hays street Grill but no way we would make the concert if we went) so it was a hot dog in the concert for NYE dinner.
Sun breakfast/lunch- Firewood Pizza cafe in the airport- actually not bad pizza for airport food. not great either
Coming To San Francisco around New Years Eve
we fly in on Wed afternoon (arrive 1145 AM) and leave Sunday at noon. My wife is not too adventurous as far as food goes. Nothing spicy for her as well. We are ok for most neighborhoods as long as they are safe. Is there reasonably priced sushi to be found?
Coming To San Francisco around New Years Eve
Bumping this back up as we leave in a few days
Moving to Greenville NC - need good food
I ate at Beefmasters a few weks ago and it was great, not a fancy place but excellent steaks, had to wait 90 mins in the parking lot tailgating like it was a football game but thats part of the atmosphere. Salad bar is no frills and on a lazy susan on a card table and many things in paper bowls but the quality was there.
Coming To San Francisco around New Years Eve
also any recs for Chinatown, I know there is better Chinese food in town but my wife wants to eat there and she is not very adventurous.

Further at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium
Coming To San Francisco around New Years Eve
My wife and I will be in San Fransisco for New Years Eve planning to attend a concert and staying in the Cultural District. Not looking for anything high end, good and cheap Kind of Diners, Drive Ins and Dives type places.

Myrtle Beach Vacation recap
Spent a recent week at Myrtle Beach so here is a run down of our dining experiences. We had a condo so ended up eating in a lot to save money.
Saturday lunch- before we checke din the condo had lunch at Mr. Fish in Myrtle Beeach- I had a excllent fried grouper sandwhich and fries and my wife had Talipia with steamed veggies. We were both happy with out choices.
Saturday dinner- Biminis- crowded as expected on a Saturday night in July but a short wait at the smokey bar wa ok. I had the Shrimp and oyster combo with fries, my wife had the shrimp tacos. both were happy- fries not as good as Mr Fish.
Sunday breakfast- Springhouse Cafe- basic breakfast-eggs, meat and toast good and no expensive.
Sunday dinner-Shuckers Orginal Oyster Bar-ate at the one at Broadway at the beach-55 cent oysters made a great app. I had the Mahi sandwhich which was good with corn on the cob, my wife had a salad with I think salmon, she wasn't happy with it. This was moereat out timing to catch a movie than wanting to eat here but mine was fine.
Mionday-ate all meals in
Tuesday- dinner- Liberty Steakhose-Broadway at the beach- this time trying to make the baseball game so it was the only place with no wait (only to eat in the bar) - had ok wings for an app, they were cheap on happy hour prices, I had the crab cakes that had huge hunks of crab in them, my wife had a chicken salad, both entrees OK at best. Too expensive for what we got.
Wednesday dinner- Russells in Murrells inlet- best meal so far- I had the grilled shrmip and scallops with a baked potato and it was excellent, huge scallops and they had a nice seasoning on them. My wife had grilled flounder and was very happy with hers.
Thursday dinner- Duffys Seafood Shack-North Myrtle Beach- another excellent meal- I had the oyster po boy with fries, very good, my wife had a shrimp and oster combo and was happy as well.
Friday dinner- River City Cafe- the one on the beach in Myrtle, we both wanted a burger and the waits were long everwhere we went, I had a Monterey Burger with Guac, and pesto and my wife had another burger with pesto but were tastey but becaus eof the crowd we had toneat outside on a very hot day.
Sat breakfast- bagels from Goldbergs Deli in North Myrtle Beach had a lox spread that was short on lox
Moving to Greenville NC - need good food
go to Washington and get a hotdog at Bill's hotdogs
good cheese biscuit at the Slate Stone Grocery
Vacation in Mystic, on to Block Island, looking for recommendations
just a short drive down the road in Westbrook is Lenny & Joe's, my favorite lobster roll in that area. I think there is one in Madison as well.

Myrtle Beach need some new reccomendations
We don;t mind a short drive so hile staying in North Myrtle I think Murrell Inlet wuill be as far as we would venture. Ate at Becks a few years back so might try Ellas this time it seemed to get some posts in other threads. Will try Fat Harold's I don't think its far from where we are staying. It is a bit of chain restaurant abyss there or bad buffets neither of which we do (ok an occassional margaritaville visit) Our goal on this trip starting sat is to not eat at anything we can eat at close to home or in another city we frequent (which takes out Margaritaville).
Myrtle Beach need some new reccomendations
bumping this up because we leave on saturday morning. How about best place to go in calabash since we are staying in NorthMyrtle its a short drive.
Eastern NC cheese biscuits
Saw something on WRAL the other day about Flo's in Wilson, small diner but had them lined up for the cheese biscuits.
Good Eats off I-95 between NJ and FL?
We ate this past Sunday at Bill Ellis in Wilson. Its not he Pit in Raleigh or B's BBQ in greenville. Not even Clyde Coopers ot Old ime BBQ but for a family gathering it was fine. The Fried Chicken I agree was very good, and the sides were good and the BBQ was better than Smithfields. I will eat Smithfields if on the road and its an only choice with Wendys or McDonalds. Very are some great Mexican places all over NC especially eastermn NC. There was a great hotdog place in Wilson but can't remember the name. I am heading to DC this weekend and looking for some good choices around I 95 in Richmond, not really BBQ as I get enough at home.
I 85 or I 95 between Raleigh and DC
We are heading up to DC for the Holiday weekend and staying with friends but need somewhere to stop for dinner Friday night between Raleigh, NC and Springfield, VA leaving about 4 or 5 so probably somewhere close off I 95 in Virginia that is easy off and easy back on. No chains or fast food is there anything there?
50th Birthday Dinner in Raleigh area
Turns out someone gave me a $50 gift card to the Capitol City Chophouse so we ate there. Pretty good but I perfer Angus Barn. I can not complain about the price with the card plus they gave me a free piece of key lime pie.

50th Birthday Dinner in Raleigh area
I turn 50 next week and my wife wants to take me out for a great dinner. We live in Fuquay Varina so downtown Raleighis really pushing the boundries for a Tuesday night. Apex-Cary-Morrisville are all closer for us. Enjoy steaks, seafood, sushi, Asian, Mexivcan, Not looking for fine dining or really nice, but casual and comfortable is much more appreciated than stuffy. We have eaten at the Peak City Grill in Apex so trying something different is cool.

Myrtle Beach need some new reccomendations
Going to N. Myrtle fo 8 days mid July, we come there a few times a year and thanks to Chowhound usually hit Mr Fish, Biminis, the Noizy Oyster and Prossers BBQ (only Buffet we eat there) looking for a few new recs, not much into chains, buffets or fine dining. Looking for casual and affordable eats where we can wear shorts and a Tshirt in. Is there any affordable but good sushi there? Looking $10 or less a roll. Any great sandwich places? Finn McCools is near where we stay so might try it as I heard good things aboutit. How about the best pizza or a good hotdog?
