small private room

We are looking for a high end restaurant in and around Boston to celebrate my mother's 60th birthday. Want it to be very special. There are 7 adults, and we would like to bring 2 young children which might not work at a lot of restaurants. We were thinking perhaps getting a small private room which would allow us to bring children without having them sit in a fancy dining room. Other suggestions would also be appreciated. Willing to spend $100/person on food or more, so I dont think that would be a limiting factor.

Celebration Dinner

Looking for places to have a celebration dinner. About 14. Either with private room or all at one table. Lots of fish options would be great. No steakhouses. Something nice but not stuffy.

Not crazy expensive, but could imagine spending $80-100 a person.

Any suggestions for an interesting late dinner (around 11 pm) in and around Center City Philadelphia. Willing to drive 10 minutes if we need to.

Thanks

Landmarc for a 'meet-the-parents' (and siblings) with ten people?

the half-covered table isnt big enough for 10 people, ive done 5 or 6 there comfortably, probably could do 8, no way 10. ive seen large parties at landmarc before, they just sit you at a round table on the second floor.

i agree with the other posters, the downtown location is great and i highly recommend it.

Best Turkey Burger

I've had the turkey burger at Grey Dog, its fine, better than average but theres nothing that really elevates it to a higher level. Never even heard of Paul's Place so i'll have to check it out.

Best Turkey Burger

I am trying to find the best turkey burger in NYC. So far the best one I've had has been at Westville, but that was only good not great.

Any recommendations for a great turkey burger?

Pho AND Banh Mi

for the most part, in vietnam pho and bahn mi are street foods served from carts (in the case of bahn mi) and small road side stations (in the case of pho). so there would be no sense in serving both considering the limits on the size of the cart/station, and teh fact that you can just go across or down the street to get the other. also, pho tends to be eaten in the morning, while bahn mi seem to be more of a lunch thing.

but that doesnt really answer the question of why its for the most part like that here. Most places that serve bahn mi ONLY serve bahn mi, nothing else (pho or otherwise). places to get pho tend to be your normal vietnamese or panasian places that dont serve any sandwiches (maybe bc they dont fit in with american's traditional view of asian cuisine). also bahn mi here is prob more of a lunch thign, while pho seems more dinnery.

with that said, in boston my favorite bahn mi place also served pho.

Quetion re: resto burger

Assurance that I did not eat pork, unfortunately it already happened. I didnt particularly like the hamburger myself, but when I was told by a friend after I ate it that it contained pork I was somewhat surprised that they had not mentioned that on the menu or when I ordered.

I've never seen hamburgers made with pork before (or at least not known it if I did), and I would usually think such outlier ingredients would be noted for people avoiding them.

Quetion re: resto burger

Is this made with pork? Do we have confirmation of this?
Are there other top-line hamburger places in new york that use pork?
Thanks

Barney Greengrass favorites

im generally more of a fan of the sandwiches/platters than the eggs, both at barney greengrass and elsewhere. i feel like if you're going to have some of the best nova around, its a waste to mix it in with eggs and lose the chance to really enjoy it.

i almost always get an appetizer or platter of nova plus something else (typically the whitefish salad or the sturgeon). hard to miss though. also highly recommend getting the potato pancakes if they've got them.

Landmarc - which location?

the food is about the same, but i think the time warner center lacks in atmosphere - its more touristy and doesnt have the good vibe that the downtown one has. i much prefer the tribeca location, although its rather far for a pre-broadway meal.

Breakfast..only for one day in NYC

Barney Greengrass, for nova and bagels, then jump on the B at 86th street and central park west, if its a weekday i believe it will take you straight to yankee stadium, otherwise you just transfer to the D and it takes you there.

Casual Italian in Soho/Tribeca?

I really like Max in tribeca, its a go-to, probably a little less character than the east village version but the food is the same. Somewhat quieter as well, although on certain nights it gets pretty busy.
definitely within your price range.

Bar Boulud Visit

Stopped by Bar Boulud on a Wednesday night to grab a quick dinner before a movie at Lincoln Plaza (My Blueberry Nights - highly recommended). Arrived around 9, didnt have a reservation, they were able to seat us (party of 2) within 15 minutes even though the place was pretty busy. Got a seat at the tasting table in the back. Nice if on a date-type dinner so two people can sit next to each other.

The space was really nice, cool, felt like a step above most every other place I've been in that neighborhood (with a few exceptions). We didnt have much time bc of the movie, but we told the waiter we were in a hurry and he was able to get our food quickly without making us feel rushed, which I thought was very ncie and not so easy to do. Tried the Salad nantaise, the loup de mer and the pommes frites. All were very good, although nothing transcendent. Didnt have time for dessert sadly. Will definitely go back, need to explore the menu more and try dessert.
