Holiday drinks and snacks for 10 that won't break the bank

I need to take my work team out for a holiday cheer but am strapped for cash. Any suggestions for a place where I could pre order appetizers and bottles of wine ahead of time in order to keep the cost down? If the team starts ordering from menus I will definitely be in the RED knowing the lushes in the group.

Downtown is preferable, or East midtown.

I was thinking Landmarc in Tribeca. Thoughts? Thanks.

Dinner for 12 people in B'burg,ft greene or lower manhattan that's affordable?

This is a holiday celebration, people in their 20s-40s (no kids), need recommendation for a festive, lively place but not too expensive. BYOB ok. Roberta's came to mind--but not sure about the place for this large a crowd. Good food matters, but specific cuisine doesn't. Any thoughts??

report on umi nom in clinton hill

We went there a couple of weeks ago and was incredibly happy when we left. Loved the pork, and the dumplings. The service was amazing. We were given a variety of amuse bouche apart from our order that were delicious.
I am recommending this to all my friends who live in brooklyn or are wanna be brooklynites. Definitely a nice addition to our hood.

Sir chowalot below may have been a bit distracted with the 2 year old to appreciate the flavors this restaurant has to offer.
Go! And enjoy!

Aliseo, Prospect Heights

We live blocks away and we were kept away for several years because of the bad reviews... we had dinner tonight, and it's a great place. Yes, the portions were on the small side..but that's ok. It would have been nice if the menu delineated those dishes that were more of a starter size and those that were more of an entree size...that was confusing. But I regret that we didn't try this place sooner! I would definitely recommend it as a nice place to sip wine in the garden and eat some yummy food.

Favorite place to go for drinks and food in Park Slope?

Total Wine Bar is good wine bar but not if you also want to eat anything more than cheese (which are good BTW).

I would also recommend that 12 street bar which is on 12st and 8th avenue. The bar is actually on 12st while the restaurant is on 8th avenue. I have been to the bar only once, but the appetizers were delicious and the wine was good. Not sure how extensive their wine list is but they seem to be able to make the basic cocktails and also have beer on tap.

AOC Bistro on 5th avenue has delicious meals and good wines--they have a bar.
Flatbush farms is another with a bar next door to the restaurant .

Fun, inexpensive restaurant in Park Slope

Amorina for great pizza (never have ordered other thiings on the menu)
Long Tan has very good thai
Coco Roco is excellent
Taqueria a standby
Olive vine in the summers with friends and several bottles of great wine
Nana --although we haven't been there in a while...we've liked it in the past.
If you don't drink alcohol, you can probably get meals below 30 dollars at AOC bistro on 5th avenue--the food was great and the service was really considerate and attentive.

A future boss is flying in from London and I need to take him out. Please give suggestions for this friday night! Manhattan midtown, downtown ok.
No particular cuisine but no seafood-focused place....he's allergic! yikes.

Park Slope Delivery Favorites

It's now October, so you are a park slope native practically--so what delivery spots are your favorite so far. We have been here for 3 years and are generally disappointed with deliver...however, here are our go to places...
Amorina for thin crust pizza--we always order the Tricolore (arugula, cheese and cherry tomatoes) and the one with sausage. We have never ordered other food from them although they have pastas etc.

Blue Ribbon sushi --we try not to order in sushi, but when we have to, we order from here. Fabulous but pricey.

Coco Roco--

Long Tan for Thai in general. Although, I have had some good fish at T Thai on 7th avenue.

I am still waiting for a good Korean place to open up in Park Slope.

Totally! First of all, I don't understand why Bruni did this review years after the stinking place has been opened.. I mean, it like reviewing olive vine, or joe's pizza. Secondly, I concur with your impressions. Service is unfriendly--we live blocks away, went for a nice dinner but not extremely hungry, and we were practically chastised for wanting to share a pizza and a salad... "not very hungry today are we?" was the exact reply. Thirdly, It's insane to pay those prices for burnt pizza. Sorry, but I like my toast on the dark side, and love blisters on dough, but i do not think its cool to overcharge so much for dough and toppings.

We eat at Amorina--maybe less sublime to some of you folks, but friendlier, and we think better.

Foget Arthur Avenue.....go to our Bleecker Street

Sorry, but why is bleecker street yours. I happen to like arthur avenue (grew up there) and bleeker street (my husband grew up there) but arthur ave has better quality fresh fish and live poultry, etc. I guess I don't really judge based on cannolis and italian heros...

I have a soft spot for Faicoo's - great bacon! -but its not an either or deal. You are trying to create a conflict where there is none.

Gosh--you guys are so fortunate to have all those lovely restuarants under your belt.. how about dining at home for a lovely gourmet meal? Sometimes you just can't beat a good home cooked meal, no matter how simple with a group of friends. Heck, you can drink better wine and lots more of it for the same price!

But if you are going out, of the places you list-- any particular favorites or dislikes, it could help us give suggestions.

Stanton Social--are they typically this rude?

We arrived with a large group for dinner and drinks early enough to be seated at the lounge area. Ordered multiple bottles of wines, cocktails and practically everything from the tasting menu (i.e. dropped several thousand dollars). While our waitress was lovely, the hostess and bouncers (yes several of them) were unbelievable. For some reason they thought it ok to hover over us and insist that we move so that others could get seated -- when 4 of our group of almost 20 went to the restroom or out for a smoke. Its like someone seating you at a table for 6 and being asked to move over to squeeze in another 3 because they had a line!

Re: food. Very good and many options for both meat eaters and vegs who eat fish...However, the oft-raved about french onion soup dumplings were underwhelming, oily, rich and unsublime (unlike good soup dumplings and good french onion soup). The yellowtail sashimi was delish.

I can not recommend this place for a large group. If I had known the rudeness of the service there, we would have happily gone elsewhere (Landmarc for sure--the same bottle of wine was $18 less there compared to Stanton!), and in the future, we sure will.

Stanton social still worth going to?

I see from past posts that hounders are mixed about stanton social... Anyone been there recently? We are going with a large group and wondered what we should order--

Peasant Wine Bar-like places to recommend?

I need a place like Peasant Wine Bar -- group seating, fun but not too loud. The group is LARGE like 15-20.

Tiffin Wallah on E 28th Street -- Anyone been?

Saravana has tastier curries. I have long liked Madras Mahal, but have not been there in a while.
The Dosa Hut next to the Hindu Temple has been excellent, although, (to my mother's dismay) I haven't been to the temple in quite sometime.

Downtown place for dinner for 20 --for a Friday!! Help...

I need to find a place downtown for about 20 people for tomorrow night. Cuisine doesn't matter so much as a fun place for such a large group. Even outside might be ok. Ideas???
