Best Fries in Providence

I used to work on Washington St, and we would go across the street to Bravo just to order their fries. Their homemade mayo was phenomenal too. I haven't been in a few years though, so I hope they're still as good as they were!

Foods you love at Trader Joe's that got discontinued? [OLD]

I found them last week in MA and bought 2 - hoping it was just out of stock temporarily!

Best arancini - an unexpected place

Thanks for the tip! I work at Tufts so I'll definitely have to check it out.

I think my favorite Tarte D'Alsace, with ham and caramelized onions and Gruyere, has been discontinued, or at least I can't find it in MA. My arteries will probably thank me, but it was such a good quick weekend lunch.

Sweet Bites Cafe, West Acton

My father absolutely loves the donut muffins and will stop by at least once a week for one. Their coffee's pretty good too.

I haven't had a chance to stop by for a sandwich, but if I get a chance, I'll let you know.

Fried Clams on Cape Cod

I had some delicious fried clams at Arnold's in Eastham a few months ago.

western MA pre/post-hike chow

I stopped at the Wagon Wheel last weekend and it was great! I had a Cubano panini, which wasn't authentic, from what I know of Cuban sandwiches (tartar sauce instead of mustard), but it was delicious nonetheless. I'll definitely stop there again next time I go out to Western MA.

I just read on another post that the Jae's in Williamstown has closed. Sorry for the incorrect information.

Almond Meal-ideas/recipes for use

I bought a bag recently to use in an almond apple cake that is in Nigella Lawson's Domestic Goddess cookbook. I think there are several other recipes using almond meal in her books as well. Let us know how things turn out!

western MA pre/post-hike chow

Please let us know what you end up doing! I'm going out to Williamstown this weekend and am planning a stop at the Wagon Wheel along the way.

western MA pre/post-hike chow

When I was in the area last summer, Jae's had just opened up another location in Williamstown on Rt 7, just a mile or so south of the intersection with Rt 2. It's probably a 10-15 minute drive away from Mt. Greylock (in the wrong direction for you, of course).

There's also a couple places on Rt 2 in Gill that I've heard good things about. Skip's Roadside Diner, which specializes in Polish food, has excellent pierogi, and I also hear that the Wagon Wheel has good roadstand food.

Saving $ Favorite Marked Down/Reduced Food Finds

Target stores usually have decent food prices, but the selection isn't very big. We usually just stock up on the basics, like cereal or yogurt. Just last week we got 4 big boxes of Cheerios for $7, which would be close to $20 at a regular supermarket.

Have you ever successfully recreated a fast food or chain food item at home?

The first Top Secret Recipes book has a recipe for the Hot Spinach and Artichoke Dip from Olive Garden, which I've never had, but the recipe is absolutely delicious and not all that bad for you (we used lower-fat cream cheese and you can't tell the difference).

[Gill, MA] Wagon Wheel Restaurant

I'm so glad to hear people liked this place! I've always been curious about it, but I'll have to stop in on my next drive out to Williamstown. That panini sounds absolutely delicious, Joshua B.

Bay Scallops

My mother used to make bay scallops and pasta in a light pesto sauce, using lime juice instead of the olive oil. It was the perfect summer dish.

What, if anything, do you buy at Whole Foods?

We've been using WF for a lot of harder-to-find items like alternative flours and grains that the regular supermarkets near me just don't have.

'FESS UP! You know you love chains!

McDonald's hash browns and sausage biscuit (no egg, just sausage, cheese and the biscuit).
Panera Baked Potato Soup
Cheesecake Factory Thai Chicken Pasta - I just had it for the first time a few days ago and it was the first thing I'd ever had at CF that I would order again.

Dunkin Donuts Food Items

I tried the turkey, bacon and cheddar flatbread sandwich today, and it wasn't too bad! The bread was a little bland and dry but the bacon had nice flavor.

mcdonalds ice coffee

I agree. I think it's good coffee and at least in Massachusetts, it's a little cheaper than Dunkin. I don't like sweet coffee and I've never had a problem getting it the way I want it at McD's.

Admit it... There's Some Dishes at Chain Restaurants You Like

Baja Chicken Chalupas from Taco Bell, the rolls from Bertucci's and the blue cheese chopped salad from Outback.

Fresh City Cafe

I think I paid more than $6.29 for the wrap the last time I went in, but this was about a year ago. Maybe the prices are slightly different in different locations? I could be wrong.

Their breakfast sandwiches are just the right thing when you need a little grease and fat - those and the McDonald's hash browns.

Has anyone tried any of their sandwiches or pizzas? I've had their hash browns, which aren't too bad, but haven't had an opportunity to have another item.

Most disgusting taste (of normal foodstuffs)

I hate mushrooms. I won't eat them and I pick them out of everything. I think it's a taste and texture thing - they're rubbery little blobs. Ugh.

Most disgusting taste (of normal foodstuffs)

I hate ripe bananas! They have to be green and pre-ripe for me to eat them. I think you have taste!

I can't deal with any sort of fake lemon taste. I had some awful medicine that tasted like that as a kid and ever since, if I get a whiff or taste of it, the gag reflex kicks in and I have to remove myself from the situation.

Did you see the shot of all of them lined up in the kitchen at the beginning? It seemed like the line went on for.ev.er.

Border Cafe, Burlington MA

I tried that one after having a few disappointing attempts at their enchiladas. I would definitely get it again! The mango salsa was great.

Does Starbucks make any good food?

The Starbucks in the Boston area at least have a Cranberry Bliss bar near the holidays. I rarely go to SB during the year but I go out of my way to go at least once a week when they have these bars. They're so good.

Cookbooks for newlyweds first time out of home?

There's a book I saw recommended somewhere called "Not On Love Alone: A Year of Delicious Dinners and More for Newlyweds" by Jessie Carry Saunders. I haven't looked at it or cooked from it, but the reviews on Amazon seem pretty positive, so maybe it's something to take a look at?
