Trip up the coast-Looking for suggestions
I am not particularly on a budget but 6 nighjts of tasting menus would break me. Lodging between $125 to $200 a night and meals in the $100-$150 range for two with wine. Might like a suggestion for one really good splurge dinner. Maybe a tasting menu if it's really worth it.
Trip up the coast-Looking for suggestions
I am from Tennessee and on Feb.13 my girlfriend meets me in San Diego at a work conference. We are vacationing until the 19th when we fly out of San Francisco. Basically I have to get to San Fran from San Diego in 6 days. I want to do the drive up the PCH to San Fran. I am looking for good food and lodging suggestions. I have done the drive once before along PCH from LA to SF but didn't stop along the way. Here is the itinerary that i have in my head. Feel free to add, subtract, or shoot it down entirely. Restaraunt options are a must. Something nice for Valentine's Day.
13-San Diego
14-Santa Barabara
15-Big Sur/Carmel/Monterey
16-18-San Fran
Thanks
Guacamole
Avocadoes become toxic when cooked? Not hardly. They have a different taste structure but are still amazing. I like to grill mine with a little olive oil and lemon juice. You can in fact use a grilled avocado to make a warm guacamole that has a distinct fire roasted flavor.
No Knead Bread-Crust too hard?
I have never baked anything ever in my life. I made the no knead bread for Thanksgiving and it was a hit. However I felt that the crust was almost too hard. I could have used it as a murder weapon. Is there anyway to tone down the crust a tad? Other than that it was amazing. This weekend I plan to roast some garlic and add the paste to the batter.
Grilled Avocados
My recipe is similar to the one above but avocado has a different and more robust flavor when grilled and needs very little else done to it. I slice the avocadoes in half, rub the exposed fruit with olive, lemon juice, sea salt, and pepper and then grill open side down until the entire avocado is soft to the touch. Make sure you get a fairly firm avocado to begin with. Once it's done pull it off the grill and if you really like avocadoes just eat straight with a spoon. AMAZING!!!!
Grilled Avocados
One word, amazing. I was wondering if anyone knew of a cheese that might pair well with grilled avocados. I am always looking to cover things in cheese, a good cheese. Not that grilled avocado even needs cheese. I've used feta which isn't half bad.
Bittman's No Knead bread is out of the oven - anyone else?
I am planning on starting my dough this afternoon and i am thinking about adding garlic cloves. i was wondering the same thing, if there would be any sort of issues.
No Knead-Fillings
Any ideas out there? i start my bread this afternoon and i am trying to determine if i am going with plain bread or something with some sort of kick.....Jalapeno and Cheddar would be good. Except i don't even know where to begin. do you add the cheese, garlic, raisins, etc before the first rise, the second, or right before you put it in the oven?
No Knead-Fillings
Could you add things such as cheese or garlic to this recipe and if so how and when would that be done? I was wanting to make some sort of cheese bread or garlic bread for Thanksgiving.
