Is there a ristorante in Philly that serves real garlicky pasta with white clam sauce?

I''ve just returned from my annual visit to your great flower show as well as my annual quest for a good garlicky pasta and clams. I must regretfully conclude that the answer is a resounding NO. It just doesn't exist in Philly or, if it does, I haven't found it. Thanks to you for all of your suggestions.

As to Criniti's, I tried them two years ago. After a lengthy and expensive taxi ride i found their pasta & clams to be truly disappointing.

This year I was only able to try two places during my short visit, At Dante & Luigi's I found their pasta to be good but devoid of either garlicky taste nor aroma even after sending it back to the kitchen for a garlic boost which never materialized. It's a nice restaurant and the people were also nice as was the owner Michael LaRusso who explained that they were light on the garlic because they didn't want it to overcome the flavor of the other dishes. Go figure. However their mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat was delightful. However, I never got the 15% discount they advertised for flower show patrons.

Next I tried La Fourno. They were also very nice. However, their pasta and clams was inedible. Two forkfuls was all I could get down and I sent the rest back although I was still charged for it and was not offered an alternative dish.

So, there you have it. I think it's time to give up the quest. It seems it just doesn't exist in Philly.

Is there a ristorante in Philly that serves real garlicky pasta with white clam sauce?

For years my wife and I have made a pilgrimage from NY to your fair city every spring to see your Flower Show. And every year we have searched unsuccessfully for a.ristorante which serves a real Napolitana linguine Vongole bianca.

This year we'll be back again the first week in March and would really appreciate any real suggestions. The only requirement is that the place be easily reachable from the convention Center area. Thanks in advance.

Best Sliders in Manhattan

The White Castles served today are NOT the original sliders.
The original sliders were made by White Castle but they stopped years ago.
The originals were made of fresh beef and fresh onions. White Castle discontinued
them when they switched to frozen patties and dehydrated onions.

Strangely there's no mention of them in the "official" White Castle history.

I stopped eating at the Castles after they made the switch. You guys don't know what you're missing. UGH!

What's the skinny on YUET LEE?

Hi, Melanie Wong. I've been reading your stuff and you seem very knowledgeable so,
what's the latest skinny on YUET LEE?

We went there years ago following a great review in SF mag and were treated like dirt so we never returned. However, we've heard some good things about them lately and our visit to SF is coming up so we'd like to learn if things there have changed. Have they?

IS THERE A REALLY GOOD NEAPOLITAN RESTAURANT IN PHILLY?

Thanks for your response. I was beginning to think that a good Neapolitan didn't exist in Philly. I just checked out Bistro Romano on Menupages. Is that the one on Lombard St.?
They gave it mixed reviews but I'm willing to try it based upon your reccommendation
As to the restaurants I've tried before, I try to delete them from memory if I don't intend to go back. Last year we went to a very disappointing one a long cab ride out on Broad Street, but can't remember the name.

IS THERE A REALLY GOOD NEAPOLITAN RESTAURANT IN PHILLY?

Every year we come to Philly to see your wonderful Garden Show. And every year we try unsuccessfully to find a really good Neapolitan restaurant. What I use as a yardstick is how well they prepare linguine with garlicky white clam sauce. This year I'm fishing for recommendations two months in advance. Do any really good ones really exist in Philly?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Clam Pizza at MAX LONDON'S in Saratoga

Max London's is a beautiful place with a friendly staff and generally great food but in their clam pizza they make the mistake of including pancetta, the saltiness of which completely obliterates the taste of the clams. We ate ther two nights in a row and on the second noght I ordered the clam pizza without the pancetta. The resulting pizza was right up there with Frank Pepe's of New Haven. BTW, their garlic shrimp os highly recommended.

NANTUA -Great Seafood in Montreal

As a New Yorker just returned from a visit to your fair city I must report on the great meal we had at Nantua. Simon, the genial proprietor, let me taste the fabulous sauce Nantua from their signature shrimp dish even before we had decided to eat there. Highly reccomended.

REAL CHINESE RESTAURANTS IN MONTREAL?

Thanks for all your replies.
Here's the result of my own research:
Great authentic dim sum: Rouge Ruby, mostly Chinese clientele.
Real Chinese, great Jook (congee), excellent chicken: Hong Kong.
Stay away from Kam Fung. Never got to taste the food, the staff was
so nasty that we walked out. (My wife speaks fluent Mandarin)

REAL CHINESE RESTAURANTS IN MONTREAL?

Are there any real Chinese restaurants in Montreal? By that I mean places which don't only serve western Chinese food and serve a large Chinese clientele?

HELP Is there a real replacement for Lakeside Chinese Deli?

Now that we;ve completed our annual Philly Flower show pilgrimage I can safely say that the Dim Sum Garden is a worthy successor to the Lakeside Deli. True, their menu is not as elaborate, but I suspect that's due to the fact that they still have no gas line. Everything we ate there was fresh and delicious. We met the owner, Tom Kuo and my wife and he had a
pleasant conversation in Chinese. His staff is delightful. We also tried the Imperial Inn for dim sum and liked it.
Their Hai Keem (stuffed crab claw) was outstanding. However their pressed boneless duck
was Mama Hoo Hoo.

Incidentally, upon advice of friends, we tried a wine bar callled Vintage on 13th at Sansome. The food was ok, as was their wine, but their sound system, which had its frequency response altered so that all one could hear was the thump thump of the disco beat which they played so loud as to be painful. When we asked the server to lower the level she replied that the owners liked it that way. As a result, we had our food packed up and ate in our hotel room. Don't say you weren't warned. Aside from that we enjoyed our
trip and look forward to coming back. Thanks to all our Philadelphi friends.

HELP Is there a real replacement for Lakeside Chinese Deli?

While booting up for our annual pilgrimage to Philly for the Flower Show I've learned that that wonderful restaurant has closed. After wiping away the tears for such a great loss I wonder if
there is any real worthy replacement for it in Chinatown? The owner recomended the Imperial. What do you guys think of that?

I expect to get my jook (congee) fix at Tin Wong, but where can I get dim sum as good and as
reasonable as that at the Lakeside? Thanks in advance.

Need Good Authentic Chinese and Italian Near Convention Center - Philly

Now that we're back in the Big Apple I'd like to thank all you guys and gals whose
suggestions made our all too quick trip to the Philly Flower Show such a pleasant
experience.
Since we were only there over three days (including travel) we only had time to
try 3 restaurants. Lakeside Deli is as good as you said and the staff is pleasant
to boot. The jook at Ting Wong is also quite good.

Because the bitter cold made us reluctant to travel far we made the grievous
error of dining at Maggianos which was across the street from our hotel.
This chain is as Italian as Mickey D's and we recommend that it be given a wide berth although it was crowded with clients, probably due to the Flower Show.

Thanks again all you guys.

Need Good Authentic Chinese and Italian Near Convention Center - Philly

Thanks very much, Mawrter, for your informatve response. I've checked the menus of both places and they read like the real stuff. I note that the Lakeside Deli serves jook, one of my favorite breakfast dishes so we'll be sure to try them both. Your reply is what makes Chowhound so great, Now if we only find a good Italian
ristorante that's not too far away.
