Review? Porthole Restaurant-Lynn

I have eaten there recently, as my volleyball league holds our banquet there
.

Admittedly the banquet food might not be the best way to judge a joint, but whilev the food is pretty bad, the place seems basically a dingy, moldy carpet "was good in 1970" kind of place.

I have in fact gone there willingly about 4 yrars ago and ordered off the menu and will tell you the exact same thing.

Chew and Screw from Dry Dock Cafe

Wow, too ! I like that place.

I've met the manager (or the owner , can't remember) and if u see her again I'll give her a piece of my mind!

Walking/Eating/Shopping/Sightseeing from Prudential Center to North End - Boylston St or Newbury St?

Newbury is nicer but they both have outdoor dining spots.

Id suggest LaVoile on Newbury.

Avoid it if possible.

Recommendations near Boston Marriott Copley Place/ Hynes Convention Center in July

There are lots of other threads that folks will post links to but I'll answer three of your specific questions:

The Salty Pig is an excellent place to eat cured meats and cheeses and other delicious things. Its right next door to Copley Place. The Butcher Shop is similar and just a quick walk into the South End. Both have nice wine lists and you will be right at home eating at the bar. I like Salty better.

Food trucks: there are usually three food trucks at lunchtime across the street from Copley Place at the corner of Stuart and Trinity Place. There is also one in front of the library on Boylston and one by the Christian Science Center.

Within a few blocks there is Steve's for Greek and Cafe Jaffa for middle eastern. I prefer the latter.

Interesting Restaurants Around Legacy Place in Dedham? (It seems to be all chains...)

Relaxing weekend with food by a pond? Suggestions for accommodations near good food? [moved from Greater Boston Bd]

Cant tell you how many times Ive spent a Sunny Sunday with a picnic and a book ... But I always go to the back side.

Relaxing weekend with food by a pond? Suggestions for accommodations near good food? [moved from Greater Boston Bd]

Butcher

Call the (Irish) butcher shop in Adams village

Legal Seafoods (sigh)

I had chowder and a salad at the bar at the Pru location and the bartender was a total asshat.

Because of him alone, I will not go back.

The chowder has gone downhill, sad to say. The salad was delicious.

Tourists next to me were eating a lobster roll that looked like it was filled with cat food.

Day Trip suggestions in Boston - Walking from Faneuil Hall to Fenway

Its waaaay more than a 30 minute walk ... just sayin ...

Good suggestions. My thoughts:

Grab a slice at Regina's in the North End

Parish Cafe's outdoor seating is always mobbed, so consider alternate arrangements

Skip Boylston St (except for the library) and walk down Newbury st or the Comm Ave boulivard

A paean to South Boston

I can attest that the Gansett is the best Ive ever had ...

A paean to South Boston

Local 149's food is real good, particularly their burger

KO Pies

My Diner (check out Dirty Bill's next door)

Rondo's

BEACON HILL. CAMBRIDGE ST (BOS) maybe FAN HALL AREA

Antonio's for reasonable but good red sauce Italian

East Coast Grill Bloody Mary from Hell

I LOVE BRIAN!!!! He is my favorite bartender ever. He's nice, friendly, smart and VERY good at his job.

We love to spend lazy Sundays at the bar with him.

I have never had him make me a bloody, as the bloody bar is just too damn enticing to me, but it looked great.

Thanks for posting this!

Conference Widow's (Longish) Four Day Plan

Shhhh .... dont tell everyone about that gorgious courtyard! I sneak over there too!!!

Conference Widow's (Longish) Four Day Plan

Is it really thatt far? Ive done it with my dogs a few times and it didnt seem like that far .... but it's pretty and all along the harbor.

But yes you can walk back down to the beach from Castle Island and in a block or so and catch the #9 bus back to Copley.

Here's KO info: http://www.kocateringandpies.com/

Conference Widow's (Longish) Four Day Plan

I have always liked the JFK library.

You can walk along the water from there to Castle Island or a 5 min drive.

Another chowish lunch destination in that area is KO Pies on A St in Southie. A very quick walk from the Broadway red line stop.

It's a hole-in-the-wall Australian savory pie joint with soups and saladie things too. And fries with chicken salt.

Post 390 lunch?

The food isnt very good and the service there is atrocious.

We had probably the worst lunch experience EVER there awhile back. The food was meh which was bad enough as it's pricy, but the service was entirely unacceptable. I wont get into the specifics unless you want me too but the lunch took almost two hours and the manager didn't give a hoot.

I've eaten there a few other times at night because of friends and have had similarly bad experiences.

Its only redeeming features, IMO, are GREAT desserts and pretty good cocktails. The bar staff is much more welcoming.

Since I literally walk past the place twice a day I wanted very much to love or even like it but it's repellant.

Citra: when you're stuck at the doctors on 850 Boylston

Thsnks for clarifying. I was trying to figure out where by Lord and Taylor it was hidden!!

seattle fam coming for 4 days may 10-15 for first time! need help

Just a note that the Arboretum is not on the Green line. It's on the orange line and 39 bus.

Milton - quick good eats, friendly and comfy

Those are the three obvious choices. Of those, the Ledge is the quckest and likely the friendliest. The food has definitely improved there, too.

Tavolo is only 5 min up the street from the Ledge, just to throw that out there.

Conference Widow Trolling the streets of Boston in search of Food

Or a double cheeseburger special at Charlies...

bánh xèo, ..anything?..anything?...Bueller??

+1 on all three places. Although sometimes 2000's preparations can be rustic, like with a ton of bones.

near Logan Airport

I agree that that might be cutting it really close. 4 pm on a summer Friday ... traffic around the airport can be pretty nuts.

While not particularly chow-worthy, there are a bunch of restaurant within the confines of the airport itself. Including a Lucky's lounge for some reason....

Oysters & a TV?

If you are talking about Round One of the draft, it kicks off at 7:30 tomorrow night. The Sox and Celtics both start at 8. Not sure when the hockey game starts.

So maybe you can watch Andrew Luck head to the Colts before they change the channel at a place with good oysters and drinkable champagn.

Oysters & a TV?

The draft will be competing against the Sox, the Celtics and a NHL playoff game on Thursday.

tough beans

+1

Anh Hong Dorchester

Ive always found it to be fine.

Ate there last night and food was good and service was prompt, if somewhat detached.

bánh xèo, ..anything?..anything?...Bueller??

They def have it at Pho Hoa on Dot Ave. I saw it every 30 seconds on their tv screen last night.
