Ship Out Of Luck!
We are members of the Mount Vernon At The Ship in Lynnfield E-Club. They send our regular E-Mails offering special deals to its loyal customers. On their website, + their E-Mails, they offered A Dinner for Two Thursday night special of Extra Thick Pork Chops, complete with salad and dessert for $20.99.
When we sat down, the waiter curtly said they were substituing Pork Loin. They had the Pork Chops at $18.99 each. We left. The Ship was like a Ghost Town. Hardly anyone there. This location has been difficult for many restaurants. If Mount Vernon treats its loyal customers this way, will it be next to go by the wayside? We won't go back.

Does anyone serve the Rijsttafel? The Andover Inn in Andover used to on Sunday Nights, but they have changed and no longer offer it.

KOREAN/JAPANESE in Lawrence, MA.
Found a "sleeper" today - had business in Lawrence. I love Korean and Japanese food and was driving by and needed a quick lunch. Doesn't look like much from the outside but inside the decor is very nice, and very clean. Service was a little slow. The food was wonderful. I had a Seafood Box with lots of side dishes, Tea for $9.95. But, the reason that I will go back is that they have Korean BBQ. Several tables for BBQ and the dinner prices compare with others in the area but this place has more potential! Better food and more of it!

Bar Harbor
Check out the Bar Harbor Inn on their website. They have a weekend package, rooms with/without views of the ocean, and the food is very good. The package price is usually quite competitive before the regular season. www.barharborinn.com
Tucker's Cafe - Bridgeport, CT area
What a nice find today. Not much on Chowhound for Bridgeport, so "asked" my GPS and it took me to Tucker's. A very small, but upscale bar/restaurant with quite an extensive menu.

Will have approx. 300 people staying at Holiday Inn-Peabody. This is a veteran's re-union.

Salem / Rockport MA
For the Rockport area, you must stop for a late breakfast at the Atlantis Restaurant on the Ocean in Gloucester. Address is 125 Atlantic Road. Beautiful ocean view and the food is very good.
For Lobster in Rockport, try The Lobster Pool, 329 Granite Street. Right downtown Rockport, at the beginning of Bear Neck is the Greenery, a very nice restaurant for lunch or dinner. Make sure you eat in the back overlooking the water.
Breakfast suggestion in Reading/No Reading area?
Try Gatherings in North Reading. Just east of Town Library on Route 62 (Elm St).

Franks is very good. If you want Prime Rib, Durgin Park has a wonderful "bone-in".
WITHERSPOON'S - WAKEFIELD
The Sheraton Colonial has Witherspoon's Grill. They have just started an Italian Buffet on Friday Nights and a Prime Rib Buffet on Saturday Night. We went Saturday Night and the food was very good - and the price was very reasonable. Even senior discounts. This is a sleeper!
Restaurant fiiled with angels
My wife and I tried Per Un Angelo last Friday. First timers, went because of Chowhound. NOT disappointed. Food was excellent. Classic example of "you get what you pay for".

Block Island Find
Had checked the boards before going to Block Island. Wanted to watch the Red Sox, eat dinner, and our Hotel did not have Cable. Asked where the "locals eat" and the answer was Club Soda. A friendly restaurant, nice bar, reasonable prices, and a large TV to watch the games. Add this one to your list if you are going to Block Island.

Had a business meeting in Montpelier, VT and checked the boards before going. Found a new place worth going to. Wayside Restaurant & Bakery. This is where the locals go! Reasonably priced. On route 302, town line of Berlin and Montpelier. This is one place that I will go back to!

The one in Boston is the worst Ruth Chris that I have visited. Others have been excellent. We went 4/27/07 and had the Porterhouse Steak for Two. Steak good, but coffee cold, no tomatoes on salad. Management did offer free dessert. Would prefer Oak Room.

Skagway has a wonderful train trip to Lake Bennett in the Yukon. The train goes parallel to the Gold Rush trail. On Saturdays, they have a special Steam Engine Train. All trains have a great box lunch and the views are spectacular! The trip is 6-7 hours round-trip. Take your camera and drinking water.

Go to the Sheraton @ Princeville. They have a wonderful champagne brunch on Sunday. Eat outside overlooking the ocean where many movies are made. Expensive, but my wife and I went about 5 years ago and still rave about it!

17 College Faculty, Staff, and Students from North Shore Community College, north of Boston, will be in NO for about 9 days in January to do demolition work in the 9th Ward. They will have transportation. Where do you recommend to eat for true local flavor?
Oxford Street Grill in Lynn - new chef
The Boston Pops were playing in Lynn last evening, 10/1/06. The Oxford Street Grill is normally closed on Sunday. They had a special last evening, a choice of appetizer, choice of any entree, and a choice of desert for $30. My wife and I really liked the place and will go back. They have a "neighborhood special" on Tuesday Nites - $11 each! We will be doing that soon!
