great restaurants on Grand Cayman

Thank you for the suggestions

great restaurants on Grand Cayman

We are planing a trip to Grand Cayman. We have visited in the past and liked Blue and Grand Old House, and disliked Calypso Grill. What are the current great restaurants in Cayman? I have read a little about Osetra - sounds interesting. Thankyou.

2012 Kentucky Derby

Thank you for your recs. I have also heard about Jack Frys, Vietnam Kitchen, Vincenso's, and the Oak Room. What is your opinion about these places?

2012 Kentucky Derby

I wil be visiting Louisville for the 2012 Kentucky Derby. I would like recs for 3 great lunches and 3 great dinners. I prefer higher end places for dinner, but don't mind dibves w/ great food for lunch. Thank you.

Park City, Utah

We have visited Deer Valley and Park City yearly for about 6 years. I agree that the White restaurants are overpriced and very mediocre in quality. The Mariposa is a more expensive versiobn of the Seafod Buffet - same food, just served to your table rather than at a Buffet, for a premium price. We bring our own wine to the Seafood Buffet and pay corkage. Jean Louis was disgusting one year - I don't know who likes his food. Chez betty was a reasonably good meal last year. Unfortunately, we continue to try new places every year, only to be disappointed and realize that Park City and Deer Valley is not New York City or Paris.

Valrhona in Paris

I cook with chocolate too - chocolate mousee, ganache, etc- I don't usually eat the 6 libs myself. And, I have cultivated the bitter chocolate taste in my twin daughters, who help with consumption as well.

High Tea in Paris

Thank you, Parigi and grace3. I will not alter my other dining plans to make room for this AMEX freebie.

High Tea in Paris

Any info on tea at the Crillon? We will be visitng in a few weeks, and have as an amenity free "high-tea."

I am not sure how to fit this into our current eating plans, as we plan one large meal (either lunch or dinner) per day at a starred restaurant.

Valrhona in Paris

Thank you again for the suggestions. I will try to stop by some of the chocolatiers you mentionned.

I buy 3 - 1kg bags of Valrhona "nibs" - usually between 65-75% cocao solids every month for snacking. I get mine through chocosphere.com, who repackages the 3kg bags from Valrhona, so I can have a variety each month.

Valrhona in Paris

Thank you all for your input.

Would you recommend La Maison du Chocolat for my chocolate fixes when I visit in a few weeks?

Valrhona in Paris

Are there one or more shops in Paris selling only Valrhona chocolates, or is Valrhona used by other chocolatiers as a basis for their confections?

checking a few (old) recommendations

Baltimore and Queens are side trips, as lmcsherr asked for recs in NYC

Cote de nuits wineries open to public

I will be driving through the Cote de nuits (between Dijon and Beaune) on 4/25. Are there any wineries that are worth a stop and offer tastings to the public?

I have asked several famous producers for tastings and was denied.

I recognize that Easter Monday is a holiday, and that many wineries may be closed. I am asking for recs of good producers that offer pulblic tastings. I can hunt down whether they are open on this holiday.

Thank you.

checking a few (old) recommendations

I have lived in NY for 25 years and around the country for the last 20 years, returning about 2-4 times /year. My NYC favorite is Bouley. It has reliably fantastic classic French food, impeccable service, and (in its current digs) a very nice surrounding. If you are looking for chemical gastronomy, look elsewhere, as Bouley serves classic French. And, relative to other top restaurants, it is reasonable.

For tops in NYC seafood, you cannot go wrong with Le Bernadin. For me, heaven on earth is a dry martini and cold oysters at Le Bernadin.

The best cannolli: Venieros on 11th st

The best bagel: (up the street from Venieros) Ess-a Bagel on 1st at about 21st st

If you are loking for ethnic seafood, try chinatown's Fuleen's on 11 Division St..

I have not been to any great Indian restaurants lately in NYC, but 6th St is always fun. Gandhi used to be good on the cxorner of 1st Ave and 6th st

I hope this helps.

Etiquette for 3 star restaurants eg Ledoyen

AMEX platinum and centurian card holders no longer ( as of 3/1/11) pay a foreign transaction fee, I am told.

How are Lameloise in Chagny and Caveau des Arches in Beaune for dinner?

Best of the 3 Stars...Is it still Pierre Gagnaire?

Great thread. Any comments on Les Ambassaduers and Le Cinq. How about Le Dome Montparnasse ( not in this starred league, but I am looking for good boullabaisse). Thank you.

How does Easter holiday affect restaurants/ menus in Paris

Well, do any other chowhounder scare to weigh in on the the Le Dôme Montparnasse vs Divellec controversy stirred up below? Is Divellec a relic of the past?

Michelin-starred restaurants with children

Thank you for your advice. One daughter is adventurous and loves to try new things, especially sauces. The other prefers plain foods - steamed, broiled, etc.

Michelin-starred restaurants with children

Me and my family, including twin 10 yr old daughters, will be visting Paris in April. The children are accustomed to fairly long meals (3-4 hours) in better restaurants. Most good restaurants that we have visited (in the US and Italy) can accomodate their simpler palates. Will we find similar cooperation in Parisian Michelin-starred restaurants (Le Cinq, Guy Savoy, Ledoyen, etc)?

How does Le Dome compare to Le Devillec?

Meals at the Moulin Rouge

Do you know if there are reasonably good seats for the "show only, " as it seems the food has not changed much since my visit 20 years ago? Thank you.

Meals at the Moulin Rouge

My recollection of dinner at the Moulin Rouge is not pleasant (about 10 years ago)- pate that tased like stale bologna, and dry duck. Has anyone tried the food at Moulin Rouge recently. The better seats seemed to go to the dining patrons, and those who cam for the show only sat in the rear. Thank you

How does Easter holiday affect restaurants/ menus in Paris

We will be in Paris over the Easter weekend. Do Michelin starred restaurants close for holidays? Do these same restaurants change their menus for holidays such as Easter?

Also, any recommendations for great bouillabaisse in Paris? Raw bars for oysters?

Thank you.

4 nights in Bermuda

I am sending my parents for 4 nights in bermuda next week. Where would you recommend sending them for dinner?

How would you rate: Fourways Inn, Tamarisk Room, Henry VIII, Barracuda Grill, Blu?

Which dining room at the Reefs is most elegant?

Are there any other restaurants you would recommend as "can't miss" during my brief visit to Bermuda next week?

Thank you.

The Reefs in Bermuda

I have read on TA that you are the resident expert for Bermuda.

Best Bouillabaisse in Paris

Any suggestions for the best bouillabaise in Paris?

Best of Best restaurants in Paris

Thank you for this different perspective. When I live somewhwere, I too look for best-value meals that are often overlooked by professional reviewers. However, when I travel, with a limited number of days, I try to find what most people consider the best restaurants.

Thanks to all who have contributed useful tips.

I thought this board was meant for sharing information about great food and restaurants - I'm not sure why hychka has only criticized my request for recommendations of current great restaurants

Best of Best restaurants in Paris

Thanks for these early replies. I do not plan any inter-meal trips to the vomitorium, but neither do I plan to binge eat. I don't think that one great meal/day is binge eating. I will admit that fitting in a good lunch and great dinner makes enjoying the dinner difficult, so I will not be planning any "double meal" days.
