Chinatown, soup dumplings, nice atmosphere

Thanks, all, for the Dim Sum Garden recommendation. It was PERFECT! Setting and food was perfect for our group. Love that it's BYOB. The soup dumplings were perfect.

Chinatown, soup dumplings, nice atmosphere

Thanks Buckethead. Looks great. I think it's probably the best we can do soup dumpling wise. I see that the 1020 Race St location is somewhat new. Has anyone been and tested to confirm the quality at this new location?

Chinatown, soup dumplings, nice atmosphere

Hi all - I'm looking for a restaurant for this Saturday in Philly Chinatown. We're a group of 4 women, looking for a reasonably nice atmosphere (not dingy and quick) where we can have some great Chinese food and catch up in a relaxing way. Preferably with killer soup dumplings and BYOB (the latter isn't a deal breaker. Thanks!

recommendation for chinatown delivery - lunch

Hi all, I have my favorites when I'm eating on my own at a Chinatown restaurant, but I'd like your thoughts on a place to get lunch delivery. It's for a work lunch, so a mix of eaters (adventurous, plain, etc) will be present. I want to really wow everyone, so I need somewhere that doesn't just specialize in one or a few things. I narrowed it by menupages chinatown that deliver (link below) - let me know which one you would choose to deliver our lunch! thanks.

emergency babka!

Hi everyone, I just got an invite to a BBQ tomorrow night and I'd like to bring an awesome NYC babka. I would normally go to Zabar's, but I am downtown now and wont be able to get uptown. Can anyone recommend a spot in/around Soho/West Village to get a babka today for eating tomorrow? Thank you!!

Parents insisting on Little Italy - please help with alternatives

Hi everone - My parents are insisting that they want to go to Little Italy for dinner on Sat. night. Despite my warnings, they're insisting because they want to sit outside, see the lights and see people walking around. I'd love to give them an alternative suggestion -- does anyone have a suggestion for reasonabley priced, Italian or American that can meet their outdoors fun atmosphere request? An backyard garden isn't sufficient, they want street action! Thanks!

Where to buy the best fresh pasta?

Definitely Rafetto's on houston street. Eataly is great, but much more expensive.

West Baltimore hidden treasures, cheap eats

Hi - I'm visiting Baltimore this weekend and staying near the Inner Harbor at the Radisson on West Baltimore St. Can anyone suggest cheap eats/hidden treasures nearby? I'm visiting from NYC and we're total foodies, so please give me something good! Thanks in advance!

bachelorette party recommendation

As a follow-up to my initial post -- we ended up going to Landmarc Tribeca. It was fantastic! The pricing was about $85/person (a bit above where I wanted), but these guys are pros down at Landmarc. The food and service were great. Plus, the space is very friendly and relaxed. I highly recommend this spot for a group!

Hi everyone. Does anyone have a recommendation for an Upper West Side spot that has good food and, most importantly, great sangria? Thanks!

bachelorette party recommendation

Hi everyone. I'm looking for some fresh bachelorette party/large group recommendations. I'm looking for Italian or American anywhere downtown-ish. I would love to stay approx $40-50/person. I was thinking of Otto, but I'm not sure how much food you get for the dinner price fix. Stanton Social is also on my list, but both spots have definitely been mentioned a lot on this board. Any fresh recs? Thanks!

Rita's Water Ice -- Upper West Side

For anyone who has spent time in Philly, Rita's arrival in Manhattan (92nd and Broadway) is an exciting development. The water ice and gelato/custard is just as good as I remember from my Philly college days. The only thing missing is the Philly-style soft pretzel, but, understandably, that'd be a lot tougher to replicate outside of Philly. My first Rita's from the UWS was the "red swedish fish" ice mixed with choc/vanilla custard. Absolutely delicious! It's going to be an awesome summer treat destination.

cheap eats west 90s

Thanks for the Malecon recommendation! I got the roast chicken and it was great! A terrific deal as well - huge amount of food (I got the 1/2 chicken) for $8.

cheap eats west 90s

This Spring day has me planning a Rita's Water Ice (92nd and Broadway) run for this afternoon. Anyone have any great cheap eats recommendations for that area? I was hoping to hit Super Taco beforehand, but I see that the truck is there in the evening only during the week. Thanks in advance!

Good Eats in/near Hell's Kitchen

Check out Yakitori Totto, a Japanese izakaya on 55th street between Broadway and 8th Ave. The cost can add up if you eat a lot, but it's a very cool spot (the type of which I don't think you find in Central PA) and the food is great.

Restaurant Burger Recs

Check out the burger at Walkers in Tribeca. It meets all of your criteria and the setting is great. I would recommend either the fries or the mashed potatoes with the burger.

Holey Cream, new HK bakery/sweet shop; open on Xmas

I stopped by last night and had some awesome samples and then a great take-away ice cream. As noted in the other posts, the owner is incredibly friendly and proud of his product. I've been living in the neighborhood for a while and I'm thrilled to finally have a real neighborhood ice cream shop (ColdStone doesn't cut it!). I tried the donut sandwich, which was certainly a decadent treat.

food cart logistics

There are some benches outside the office buidling on the same corner as the 53rd/6th cart. Lots of people eat their food there. The guys at the cart do wrap up the meal pretty well though, so it'll stay warm for a while. Kwik meal is close enough to the "pedestrian mall" on broadway - you could get your food at the cart and then head to broadway to sit. Getting a table may be tough because it's the holiday season, but it could be worth a shot.

Di Fara's on a Saturday evening

I'm thinking of heading to Di Fara's for some birthday pizza tomorrow night. I've never been to Di Fara's on a Saturday night. I am planning to get there by 5:30ish (it opens, hopefully, at 6:00), but I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the wait/crowds on a Sat. evening at opening time. I'm bringing a Di Fara's first timer with me, so while I'd like him to get the full experience with some wait time, I don't want it to be a total madhouse. Also, I REALLY want Di Fara's for my birthday! Thanks!

Family-style Italian in Manhattan

Check out Piccolo Angolo (621 Hudson St). You won't feel like you're missing out on too much there. La Mela is festive, but food isn't as good as Piccolo Angelo.

Are Vendy Awards Worth $80?

YES! It's an amazing event in so many ways . The lines do get long, but you'll need breaks in between food carts. It's a lot of food (the vendors always give generous portions). I'm not sure that your vegetarian friend will enjoy the savory foods as much (deserts should be fine), but the atmosphere should make up for it. There will be plenty to eat! Just go early and plan to make a day of it.
