Adrienne (not my bhalo nam) adrienne156(at)hotmail(dot)com
SF Bay Area originally, IE occasionally
Best meal I ever ate:
Sitting next to my grandmother in her outdoor kitchen in Khulna dipping piping-hot whole wheat rotis straight off the tava, pillowy soft and smokey from the open flame, into tea made rich and thick with heaping teaspoons of Nido and sidr honey before dinner. Ruined my dinner but was totally worth it every time.
My current drink of choice:
Whiskey and Perrier. Seriously, try it.
I really wish I could:
Backpack around Asia. Delayed gratification sucks.
My "Go-to" dinner party dish:
Turkey sandwiches and a case of 5-Hour Energies. Law students don't throw dinner parties. In a previous life, Jaffrey's Bhopali Rice Pilaf sans peas.
My favorite comfort food:
Bengali Mommy food: spinach stir-fried with dried chilies; spicy garlicky mashed kabocha squash with shrimp; Indian “Hot Mix” toasted in a pan with rice crispies, fried onions, bits of green chili, and ginger, barely drizzled with mustard oil. ...And, hazelnut gelato. I don't know whether to eat it or roll around in it.
My top 5 favorite restaurants:
I eat here often: Beretta, El Taco Zamorano Restaurant, Burma Superstar, China Village
My most tattered cookbooks:
Madhur Jaffrey's A Taste of India (tattered, splattered, etc.), Suvir Saran's Indian Home Cooking (current crush), and Jerusalem (just gorgeous).
