I would imagine you'll pay a premium for it though.

New PC Insider's Report

Last summer I got some of their marshmallow flavour (can't remember the name). I was hoping for something akin to Greg's roasted marshmallow and was very disappointed. It was sweet and flat. I also got the cotton candy and birthday cake for the kids. I know they are kid flavours, but they were so over the top sweet most of the kids didn't finish them and my 2 didn't ask for them again. I wound up throwing out what was left in the tubs.
Despite all that, I now have a tub of gold medal ribbon sitting in my fridge. I love that flavour and I got sucked in by the sale price of $2.99. I have yet to try it, but I'll post again if it's any good.

Unrefrigerated side/snack

I would take either watermelon to cut up there or carrots pita/crackers and hummus. The hummus will need to be in a cooler, but it won't take up much room. I know you said that others are bringing fruit, but in my experience most kids can't get enough watermelon and if it's a hot day it will help keep them hydrated.

Best Recipes you have ever found on Chowhound Home Cooking board

I second this one!

Where to find less common/unusual greens in the GTA?

I haven't shopped there in a few years, but Harvest Wagon always had an excellent selection of produce. You pay the price though!

Best brand of "slice and bake" cookies?

How about buying some trays of frozen squares? You can pull them out of the freezer when needed and cut them into bite sized pieces. It saves you the step of baking, and if you need a lot of pieces that can take a lot of time.
Sorry to year about your friend.

Things you want to bake

I love all of the recipes that I have tried from Bakergirl, no duds yet! Here is the next one of hers that I plan on making http://buddingbaketress.blogspot.ca/2012/04/coconut-coffee-chocolate-chip-cookies.html

The crackly sugar cookie recipe on this site is a nice simple recipe that is easy to add flavours to.

Recipes from Artisanal Bistro's Grilled Cheese Contest

The best chocolate chip cookie in Toronto?

I have yet to make it all the way home with a cookie! Thank god I don't live closer to them.

Best Bread in Toronto

I'm pretty sure you can get Fred's at most Loblaws. They have some interesting flavour combos but I wouldn't go out of my way for their bread. I like Harbord for challah and St Johns for sourdough, but I will give Le Matin a try as per ghostdogg's rec below.

storing garlic marinated olives

My mom has made a batch of marinated olives that include garlic and herbs and quite a bit of olive oil. How long can she safely store this in the fridge? Can she strain the oil and use it for cooking after? My concern is the garlic being submerged in the oil. She wants to be able to keep adding olives to the marinade as her supply get depleted.

McDonald's Happy Meal Cookies

Sorry to be late in replying. Looks like you got the answers you needed. I always leave them to the kids, so can't comment on the flavour.

Ottawa - coffee on Good Friday

I will be in Ottawa to see family this week-end and am planning on meeting up with a couple of friends for coffee and a catch up on Friday afternoon. We're mostly in the west end, Kanata and Wedtboro. Anyone what's open and what's not? TIA

Calling all cheese experts...

If you have enough of the goat cheese for the gratin I would do that and use the rest for a fondue with the soft one mixed in right at the end. Taste before adding it and decide if you think it belongs.
If you don't have enough of the goat I would use the semi-hard to hard cheddar styles grated and tossed together for your gratin.

McDonald's Happy Meal Cookies

I'm in Canada (Toronto) and here kids have the choice of getting a small bag of those cookies instead of the happy meal toy. It's not really advertised, but we have never been turned down when we ask.

How to eat a cupcake...?

exactly!

Pizzeria Libretto - Ossington vs. Danforth.

Cafe Belong at the Brickworks, nice nature walk afterwards or Gilead Cafe, close to Distillery District which has some interesting shops. Soma is a must for chocolate if you choose the second option.

Day Care Lunch: Really Need Some Help

"It's hard not to freak when your heart is walking around outside your body."

Nicely said!

My kids are in grade school now, but here are some ideas that mostly get eaten by mine.

milk in a thermos, baggie of cereal on the side, they can dump the cereal into the milk
cheese and crackers or mini croissants with some fruit on the side
there is a sandwich spread called Wow butter, it tastes like peanut butter but is made from soy and is "school safe"
meatballs in tomato sauce in the thermos
sometimes to change it up I put their regular sandwich toppings in a wrap or hotdog bun

Would you be willing to share the butterscotch pie recipe?

Folia Grill for souvlaki & other grilled food at Pape & Cosburn

There is no pita, more meat and more fries IIRC. I like to split the plate with a friend with pita and zucchini fries extra.

Leslieville Cheese on Donlands

Just wanted to post that they are now open. I went in yesterday to check them out, very small store with a smaller selection of cheese than their Queen location. They had a few breads (probably from Ace or Fred's), some croissants and a few treats and a nice selection of dips and crackers. Everything was 15% yesterday and I am assuming today too since it seems to be an opening special that has been going on since Thursday.
Everyone working there was extremely friendly and helpful. And I learned that there will be an espresso bar opening next door in another month or 2.

What pies are you baking for Pi Day - 2012 edition

I made butterscotch. Going to a friend's for dinner this week-end, think I'll make crack pie for that.

Maple Flakes

I have some Equinox maple flakes at home(got them in Montreal) so I googled them. According to their website they are available at Noah's and the Big Carrot, however Whole Foods is also listed so you may want to call first.
I'm on a maple kick at the moment, made a gorgeous maple caramel from Martin Picard's cookbook.

How to make "sheet" cake

Thanks for the link. It's March Break this week and I am in charge of a few 6 and 8 year olds. I'll let them give this recipe a try!

Torani Italian Syrup??

I found some at Home Outfitters. I think I paid about $8.

Leslieville Cheese on Donlands

Just noticed a sign in the window of a small shop on Donlands north of Plain, east side. Leslieville Cheese Market is opening there on March 15th. I'm looking forward to having them jn the neighbourhood.
