Please help me pick Prague restaurants!

OK I live here in Prague. And yes those restaurants are among the best. I would recommend you go to the following.
Kampa Park Restaurant: This one's right on the river and has a beautiful view. But you're going for the food it's one of the best.
Mlynec Restaurant : This is one you mentioned and has a good reputation for food and of course a lovely view as well.

I would also recommend finding some dives, (read that as typical Czech pub) and order a Pork Knee (English translation) I know it sounds appalling but its a pretty impressive dish and done well here in many places. I'd save that dish though for a pub type place and not one of the restaurants mentioned above.

fernet branca

I've become a big fan of Becherovka since living in Prague for over a year now. I noticed some cocktail options for fernet which is similar to Becherovka so I thought I'd post this link to cocktail options. I'm not a big fan of making cocktails out of drinks like these since they are so complicated on their own that I don't feel that they need all these other things going on. But I thought I'd share anyway. http://www.ultimate-brands.co.uk/products/becherovka_cocktails.htm

Good food in Croatia (Dalmatian Coast)

Be sure to order the grilled calamari when you're there. I'll just leave it at that.

Beer & Food in Stare Mesto, Prague

Hope you haven't gone yet.
First of all you shouldn't have any problem with beer halls in Prague the place is dripping with them. Beer being the cheapest thing in the country.
Second be sure to order the Pork Knee or Pork Joint as it's often translated (almost everywhere will have an English menu these days) It's not the most appealing sounding thing but you're friends will be envious and all the cameras will come out.
Third Good beer is easy to come by in Prague as it's consumed at such a rate it's fresh just about everywhere. But good food is much harder to come by in beer halls as the standard fare is more often than not can be described as overcooked meat covered in some gravy with a side of dumplings or potatoes.

As for a recommendation, which is what you wanted, I'd try the following in that area:

Pivnice U Rudolfina
Křížovnická 10
------------------
U Zlateho Tygra (Golden Tiger)
Husova 17
Stare Mesto
-----------------
Kolkovna
Vezenska 2
Stare Mesto
-----------------

Czech Restaurant

Are there any Czech Restaurant's in the Greater Boston Area? I did a search and noticed Karls Cafe was gone. That would have been ideal geographically. But since none of the posts was very recent I thought I’d ask the question in case anyone knows of anywhere.
Thanks

Cheap but good food in Prague

Try here. http://www.expats.cz/prague/restaurants

Lincoln/Sudbury

Also Bullfinches http://www.bullfinchs.com/ for fine american, Fugykaku http://www.fugakyu.net/ for Japanese, and Oshii Sushi Too for Sushi all are on Rt, 20. All of them are good. For a small town Sudbury is Culinary Utopia.

South West of Boston Restaurant Recommendation?

I need a last minute recommendation for a restaurant south west of Boston. Something between Sudbury and Providence would be ideal. Yes I know there are great restaurants in both locations but our babysitter changed plans on us at the last minute so now we can't make it to Abe & Louie’s in Boston anymore. I was thinking something like Masala Art's Spice bar but they've shut that down until Monday due to short staffing. I'm not familiar with much below Framingham or above Providence. Something like the Spice Bar where the Executive Chef prepares you meals in front of you and explains everything would have been great. As for Cuisine anything is on the menu we are all VERY adventurous eaters. We’re looking for Amazing food price is not so much an issue. And we need to go tomorrow night (babysitter already scheduled.)

Thanks Chowhonds!

Anyone Been to China Sky in Wellesley?

I agree China sky is very good but yes the prices arn't cheep but neither is the atmosphere.

South Indian food in Boston and vicinity?

Also Kushboo in Lexington is very good. Their Lamb Masala Dosa is wonderfull. And There is another good place on Moody street in Waltham who's name eludes me right now.

Tobiko Dim Sum Acton - anyone been?

Oh I've been there but. I like to mix it up though.

Old Viet's rest. in Arlington Ctr.

Oh that's so sad that viets cafe is gone that place really did have a fresh Bun. I'm glad I saw this post before trying to head over there.

Tobiko Dim Sum Acton - anyone been?

I have not been but await your review of their dimsum. We can always use more dimsum in the suburbs. I wish they opened earlier than 12:30 on saturday and sunday thats a bit late for kids who still nap to be draged out for dimsum. On the other hand theirs nothing better for mom and dad than long naps caused by kids who have filled up on dim sum before hand... :)

I didn't see anythign about dimsum on their website when did the add say they were searving dim sum? If I don't see a response to this I may have to get out there anyway to write up a review myself.

question re. buying a stand mixer

Thanks Celeste I just purchased a 600 Pro last night for my wife (and myself)

question re. buying a stand mixer

Celeste any Idea where I can find that $50 rebate? I'm thinking of getting the 600 for my wife for christmas. And it would make her even happier knowing I got a rebate too. I have that 20% off coupon already.

Great Eats North Conway, NH/White Mts. Area

After reading this thread we ate at Moat Mountain on our way up north to the mountains. I must admit I was impressed with the food. I had the crab cakes and the crab bisque. Both were spicy in very different ways with the crab bisque having a wonderful curry base and the crab cakes came with a sweet chili glaze with Thai flavoring.

On the down side was an absolutely horrible meal at Merlino's Steak House sadly we had planned to go to the Bernerhoff that night but the kids where much too tired to be good so the “family restaurant” caused this to be our destination. We were seated on the second floor and It was packed with kids and families. I just felt sorry for the couples that were up there with all that noise. Everything took forever to get to the table the service was horrible. But the bottom line is when I pay $30 for a 9 ounce filet minion in a place claiming to be a steak house and ask for it medium rare I get pissed when it shows up well done. After waiting so long for our food I just wanted to take my kids and get out so I didn’t send it back like I normally would have. But I will also not be eating there again.

Nantucket for new years

You should definatley stop into Black Eyed Susans if they're open in the winter. They're not one of the expensive or fancy resturants but I was also surprised and impressed when I was there last. It is a shame about Oran Mor.

Ponzu in Waltham

If the Chowhound night at Ponzu hasn't happened yet I'd love to as well.

Jin Buffet

I don't remember seeing them. I don't think so.

Chinatown Eatery

I was hoping your post was anouncing it's reopening.

Indian food in Framingham

Curry Leaf is good but my first choice would be Dakshin near the Ashland line.

Where to go for Japanese/ seafood with ages 4 to ( well, lots older)

No question, Minado in Natick on Rt 9. It's a Japanese Seafood Buffet with a lot of sushi options. It will allow those not so sure of themselves to try new things and the food is quite good. There is also a desert buffet that my daughter loves.

Best Dim Sum??? Boston and North

I'm a big fan of Chow chow city. The place in Woubun you went to has it's main resturant in Chinatown (China Perl) which is better than the one in woburn. I haven't been to Hei La Moon YET but am planning on going there on my next trip to boston. Other places in the suburbs which it sounds like you're in are Yangzee river in Lexington has a dimsum buffet $11.95 i think. I'm not a big fan of that place as I find it ver frustrating trying to get anything you want if you don't sit right infront of the kitchen. And Oriental Perl in Framingham which if I recall is $8.50 or $9.95 and better than yangtzee. But the best ones are definately in chinatown. I'd recomend Chow chow city for a firts major outing and bring friends they'll thank you for it.

Dim Sum Report Yangtze River, Lexington 10/29/06

I would agree with the above comments but would add that when I have taken my family there it has always been very frustrating because they make so little to put on the carts that it's almost alway all taken up by the fist few tables near the kitchen.

We don't go there anymore because while it is a good value it's such a frustrating experience that it's not worth it.

Lotus Blossom Sudbury???

It's a good chinese resturant. They also own Watter Lilly in Wayand. I think you'll be pleased. it has a 23 for Food in Zagats if I remember corectly. It's been remodeled with in the last few years. I would not recomend the orange scallops but other than that it's quite good. I had some friends over from China (Shainghai) and they ordered and felt that it was surprisingly good.

Molana (Persian) in Watertown Review.

I have a menu here the only lamb dish I see is Gaghali Polo with Lamb Shank. "Boiled Lamb shank in special herbs and spices with Baghali Polo(rice, lima beans, and dill weed)"

As for the rice it was light a delicate but not crispy like that from the botom of a Dolsot bowl. ( I am also a fan of this style of crispy rice)

Anyone eaten at The Ginger Pad in Burlington?

I have a menu in front of me right now prices are between $6.50-$7.95 for rice and noodle bowls and the slect your own dishes are between $7.50-$9.50 depending on what meat/tofu you get. I stopped by last week or the week before and they were all in there but they hadn't opened yet so I haven't actually tried the food.

Tasty dinner for tonight in Framingham to Hopkinton

I have to rebuff the comment about Dashkin I went there recently with my family and it was fantastic. Everything from the way they treated the kids to the food was very impressive.

Molana (Persian) in Watertown Review.

So I went to Molana (http://www.molanarestaurant.com/ ) in Watertown today for lunch I stopped in at 11:30 even though they don’t open for lunch till noon. The waitress there was so welcoming she let me sit down and brought me some bread and tea while I waited for them to get ready. The atmosphere here is a bit strange you can definitely tell that its got a lot of Persian decorating but with the wooden pizza parlor style tables and chairs its very difficult to let you mind slip away to another time and place. The restaurants layout also leaves you with the impression that it was a neighborhood pizza place in a previous life with the long raised counter looking in to the kitchen in the back. But the welcoming restaurant and friendly fellow diners make you feel right away as if you’ve been coming here for years.

I had the Persian tea which was a very nice change for me as I drink a lot of tea but had not had this particular kind before. The bread was basic pita style bread served with those little plastic squares of whipped butter. I ordered off the lunch menu and got the Beef Soltani with grilled tomato and rice. This gave me the opportunity to sample two different beef offerings at once which is something I always like. The rice was delicate and well prepared with dusting of yellow rice on top. The Soltani offers both the Kubideh: a length of ground beef cooked over an open fire and the Barg: marinated and pounded tenderloin. The Kubideh was well done and had a nice earthy flamed finish to it but was a bit bland for my tastes. The Barg was my clear favorite as the flavors of the marinade came out beautifully on this nicely cooked beef. It was tender and juicy and flavor left me wanting more but the portions made me ask for a doggie bag. I wisely saved room for the Persian ice cream at the end as this was a delicacy I have read about but not been able to try. This was made with saffron, rose water and Persian cream and this alone was worth the trip. I can see why other hounders have posted requests searching this delicacy out if you have the opportunity I would recommend saving room for desert.

Overall this was a good Persian restaurant I’ve only had Persian food a few times so I’m not an expert but as Persian restaurants are so scarce it’s always good to know where one is.

Molana is located at 5 spring street in Watertown, MA with a metered parking lot across the street.

Lunch in Newton Corner?

I was going to go to new ginza but it wa only 11:15 and it didn't open till 11:30. So I decided to keep walking and crossed the bridge to water down because I could see that square two blocks on from in front of New Ginza. I walked around and found a Persian place called Molana it was quite good. I'll pop up a review of it in a bit.
