Downtown Jersey City: dinner
My husband and I make our way out of NYC to PA almost every Friday, but we've worn out any places on the way for dinner on Rt 78 - admittedly, not many.
We've started prowling downtown Jersey City when we exit the Holland Tunnel but it's been hit and miss. We'd try Hoboken but parking is a doomed lottery. Why didn't think of my Chow friends sooner?
Could I get your suggestions for dinner in downtown Jersey City, please? Two adults and a very composed 1 year old who sits in an adult chair. Cuisine and price are not as much a variable as no / little wait time to a table around 6:30pm.
Many thanks in advance.
Brunch with stroller South and East of Union Square?
Just the two and half of us going out this Sunday for our first Mother's Day. Any recommendations for a spot with 1) yummy food 2) good wine list and 3) room to park a stroller next to our table?
Thanks in advance.
Cuban food and music?
My husband's birthday request. Any recommendations for a weekday dinner and live music? He knows the music whereas I'm a novice.
New parents: where to go for celebratory dinner?
Our three week old baby will be cared for by Grandma while Mom and Dad celebrate their first anniversary tomorrow at an early dinner. Any ideas for a restaurant in Brooklyn (north of Flatbush /Prospect Park South preferred) with great food, quiet enough to be able to hear each other and little wait time for a table? Cost not an issue.
Thanks in advance
Post pregnancy sushi
I keep thinking about that first post-pregnancy sushi meal.
Where can I get a mouth watering fix for two, omakase style, anywhere in NYC/boroughs? Masa jumps to mind but I'd rather spend that kind of money on airfare.
Where would you go if you handn't had sushi in almost a year?

Post pregnancy omakase, please!
Can't wait to get into some outstanding sushi for my birthday about a month after our first is born, just 6 weeks from now.

Flatiron / Gramercy birthday dinner tonight
We wound up at Resto.
Cons: food was truly good. Brussel Sprouts as an appetizer (hey, it's his birthday, give me the man what he wants). My husband also liked the red by the glass - the server allowed us a bottle though it was not a bottled offer and charged us appropriately. Dad had the trout special, served with some chourico and chestnut sides - tasted good but was too close to a stuffing than a side. I had milk marinated pork tenderloin with purple fingerlings and leeks I think. Good but just a bit undercooked. Sauce didn't add much, it could have stood on its own. Husband had the chicken special, well presented.
Very happy overall with the service, though a little rushed towards the end as the restaurant was filling up. However, they were accomodating with our wine request and with surprise birthday candles on waffles. Only con was perhaps how loud the room became as it filled. I would return for drinks or an early dinner to avoid the decibel levels.
Thanks again for your recommendations and help.

Thanks for both of these. As a third option, any thoughts on Resto?

Flatiron / Gramercy birthday dinner tonight
Looking for an unpretentious (but not casual / pub environement) restaurant with great food, but of course. Dinner is with my Father and husband - we're late bloomers, very recently married. We have after dinner plans near 27th & 5th Ave. With the exception of prices a la Per Se, price is not really an issue.
Any lively and reliable places you would recommend for a celebratory dinner?
Quiet dinner for two friends
Any recommendations for a spot for two girls to catch up? Good food, good service, warm athmosphere. Haven't been out in a while and don't know where to start looking.
West side of the island below 59th Street preferred: Meatpacking, West Village, West 50s, Hell's, etc.
ISO Fresh Passion Fruit
Also looking for passion fruit juice for a cocktail. Any ideas? Doesn't have to be freshly squeezed.
'98 Mouton Rothschild for Dad's Bday...where to go?
I was gifted a Mouton Rothschild (Pauillac) '98 and have been hanging on to it for a couple of years waiting for a special occasion. Meanwhile, why not just celebrate with my Dad (his birthday) and Fiance at dinner tomorrow night?
Can you help me?
*great service
**moderate corkage fee
***somewhere that would appreciate the wine and the occasion. Don't know if it would need decanting, etc.
****good/great food at around or less than $30/entree. Possible? Not looking for Per Se or the like, just a very reliable place where we will all be made welcome.
Thanks very much in advance.
LIC, Woodside, Sunnyside birthday dinner
My fiance and I are taking my Dad out for his birthday tomorrow night. Looking to stay closer to home, so Sunnsyside/Woodside/LIC. Dad and I are into great food and service and fiance likes a quieter atmosphere. I have a fantastic bottle so a moderate corkage fee? Say up to $50 per person? Italian, Thai, French, Latin would be great.
Any ideas?
Cinco de Mayo celebration, real mexican
I want to surprise my fiance on May 5th with a fun spot - live music? - and truly authentic mexican food. He loves the country, the people, the food - has travelled there more than a dozen times and been to every region. I speak Spanish but that's the extent of my familiarity with the country.
Any recommendations for a spot celebrating Cinco de Mayo (not the NY Frat version) worthy of a chowhound?
Gracias!
Soups in the theater district?
My brother's Mother-in-Law is coming in for lunch and a show this Sunday. We're looking for someplace near 44th Street, inexpensive (soup, salad, soft drink - not to exceed $20?), not spicy in the least. Also, she just popped a dental crown, so soft foods such as soups are requested.
Any ideas for a nice spot with good service for lunch this Sunday? Any recommendations are sincerely appreciated.
Dim Sum this Sunday, Chinatown
Haven't been to a big hall since I was a kid. Can anyone recommend a place this Saturday for lunch in / near Chinatown to coincide with the dragon parade? For a group of 5.
Pre-Inaug dinner, Inaug lunch
My fun loving foodie friend and I are flying down from NYC to witness history! We're flying in Monday 19th, flying back Tuesday, 20th at 7:30pm. However, neither of us is terribly familiar with the area.
Can we impose on our DC Chowhounds? Monday night dinner: we're staying with friends in Arlington, but are happy to travel via metro / taxi for excellent food (any cuisine), a good wine list, in an area we can hop to live music after dinner. We're staying out as late as our eyelids will stay open. Hoping not to exceed $100/pp and to avoid getting mangled by college crowds.
A boozy casual lunch after the swearing-in? We know there's a two mile pedestrian perimeter surrounding the Capitol. Any suggestions within that boundary or walking distance of a nearby subway station?
Many thanks!

Revised BYOB list in 2009?
Dear Hounds,
Wondering who among us is sorting out ways to enjoy eating out with friends while keeping to our shrunken budgets. In that vein, can you suggest your favorite BYOBs? Preferably with no corkage, but I know I'm pushing my luck. Some that I remember that I enjoyed were:
-"A" in upper Manhattan (no corkage)
-Ivo and Lulu (no corkage)
-Tartine?
Thanks!
Dinner after the company party
The Company party, which everyone expects to be toned down from years past, starts at 6pm. Don't really have a choice of company at the Company, but it's politically expedient to attend.
However, I'd like to organize a dinner with three to six fun co-workers for 8:30pm in Manhattan (Midtown, downtown). Essentials are very good food, a solid wine list, attentive but not fawning service. Hoping to keep it not more than $100 per person.
Can any Chowhounds suggest a warm, friendly environment that sounds right for this dinner get together?
Dinner and jazz tonight (Fr)?
I love Cornelia Street Cafe but would love to try a new spot. Someplace also with good food and music and a low key vibe. Two adults, but there's a small chance the friend's 14 year old daughter and two friends could tag along.
Any ideas?
Many thanks, Hounds!

PS1 recommendations?
I'm dedicating this Sunday to art, starting at PS1. Haven't been in quite some time and would love some help with where to go for brunch. It's just me, so I'm happy to sit bar-side if any particular spot is normally jammed. Any price point, any cuisine. Just looking for excellent food and a spot to read the paper while I fuel up for a fun day.
Many thanks in advance, 'Hounders.

Atlantic Ave ArtWalk June 6, 7
Hmm. That's a separate event (and you're right about it being schwarma, not falafel).
Any suggestions in the area for this weekends's event? It's an Art crawl, open studios, etc.
Atlantic Ave ArtWalk June 6, 7
Has anyone attended this in the past? I hear there's a falafel guy who rocks at this fair. Any suggestions for gland activating foods at restaurants on/near Atlantic or street food at the event?

Dinner and brunch recs?
A friend and I are impulsively chucking it all this weekend, renting a car from NYC to DC for a road trip and fun. We're staying in the Lincoln Park area (exchanged homes) Friday and Sat nights. Saturday matinee at the Kennedy Center. Otherwise, we're as free as can be.
Any tips for late drinks Friday (near Lincoln Park area?), great dinner Saturday anywhere, good brunch Sunday anywhere? We're two women in our early 30s, very fun, enjoy wonderful food and great wine. Don't want to break the bank, but price is not too much of a consideration.
Thanks, Hounds!
After theater dinner
A dear friend and I have a 7pm show and are looking for wonderful food (Italian, French, Fusion, etc) and a great wine list. West side of town from say the 20s through 50s? Price point under $100/per person.
Many thanks in advance.
Tartare brunch?
Had some lovely tartare this week and am now stuck on it. Ideas on who makes a wonderful bit of it? Any neighborhood and price point fine.
Thanks in advance.
Comfy reading spot / brunch
Suggestions for a cozy space where a girl can dig into the newspaper and Anna Karenina for a couple of hours? Unobtrusive service and excellent food? Neighborhood and price range indifferent.
Thanks in advance.
'98 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac - rest to match?
A special wine to share with a dear friend tomorrow night. We're combing birthday celebrations and the bottle has been waiting for some time.
Any suggestions? I was thinking somewhere known for their wine list. When in each other's company, dinner lasts normally 3-4 hours. European or American traditional/new. Service that is not smothering is important. Looking to avoid Daniel, Jean Georges, mega-chef / star status places, etc. Something smaller, less known, hidden gem, etc.
Thanks in advance. Happy holidays, everyone.
New Year's full dinner and dancing (live music)
Trying some early planning this year. My preference is for a smaller venue away from the hordes. The Screening Room (no longer) formerly on Varick was such a place and I had a great celebration with friends that year. Excellent service, good food, live band and room to boogy.
Has anyone in past years had a similar experience, or know of any restaurants with this kind of an agenda?
Any suggestions? Many thanks in advance.
