N.O. – Memorable First Impression

Thanks for all the great recommendations. I look forward to experiencing as many of these places as possible.

N.O. – Memorable First Impression

I’ll be visiting New Orleans for a long weekend in March. I have been to the city a few times (although my experience is limited to the FQ and Warehouse Dist.), but my wife and brother-in-law have never seen the town.

We will probably arrive at noon, and will likely have to kill a few hours before we can check in to our hotel, so I’m looking for recommendations of where I can give my companions a memorable first impression of New Orleans. I am not necessarily looking for anything fancy, but more along the lines of a cool lunch spot where they can experience some local flavor.

I will have a rental car, so really anywhere between New Orleans Int’l and the city is doable.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

St. Patrick's in N.O.

Thanks for all of the feedback. I will definitely check out the parades.

St. Patrick's in N.O.

I will be visiting New Orleans from March 12 through the 15, which happens to be the weekend before St. Patrick's day. Of course, eating and drinking will be a main focus of the trip, and I was wondering if there are any N.O. food/drink traditions related to the holiday. I am interested more in the N.O. aspect than any cliche St. Patty's stuff. I thought I'd reach out to see if there is anything interesting I should know about.

Pho Sate in Philly

While a student at Temple, I got hooked on a Vienamese soup called Pho Sate. It has a creamier, spicier broth than the normal Pho served at most area Pho spots.

Other than the small takeout place on Temple's campus, I have a hard time finding the stuff. Vietnam Restaurant has it, but most of the Vietnamese/Pho places I have checked out don't have it on the menu, and the waiters often look at me as if I invented the stuff when I ask about it.

Does anyone know of a place in town where I can satisfy a craving for this stuff short of Vietnam Restaurant? I checked out most of the Pho Places along Washington Ave, and in the Northeast. Let me know if I missed something.
