Why Yelp Sucks!
True. The CH board covering the area where I live now is not exactly hopping. But the yelp reviews are always new and fresh.
Dinner for a family I don't know
Ok, so the same guest that is visiting going to have some family members she hasn't seen in almost a decade driving into Denver for dinner. It's going to be a multi-generational family, and they will likely insist on paying.
I'm thinking Annie's on Colfax will be a good choice, but if that doesn't work out, are there any other decent and reasonably priced "family" restaurants in Northern Denver that you guys would recommend? Some place with a good range of decent food, a normal price range and a leisurely pace would be good - I'm assuming there will be A LOT of catching up going on. It's for a Saturday night and there will be like 7 people at the table.
Dinner in Manitou Springs?
A friend is visiting. We're thinking of having dinner in Manitou Springs after checking out Garden of the Gods and Pike's Peak - anything to recommend? Casual, comfort food would be great.
Dinner in Trenton -
What time does the graduation start and where are you coming from? How close do you want to be to the arena?
Visiting Princeton to New Brunswick area
I'm so glad you had a good experience at Blue Bottle! Now that I've moved from the area, I literally dream about that place, lol. And yeah, you TOTALLY should have gotten the gnocchi - it's my best friend's favorite dish there, no matter what the sauce is:)
I agree with you on Deanna's. They are great on atmosphere and service, but you can get far better options in any Trenton/Hamilton red-sauce joint.
Bordentown - Trenton -Princeton Area - Party for 25
I would not use Mastoris. I love the place, but it's more "funeral lunch" imho than "rehearsal dinner" - I kid you not, every funeral lunch I have ever gone to (not to mention a few showers) has been held at Mastoris. They do an EXCELLENT job, but it's not really rehearsal dinner quality.
Farnsworth House does some lovely events. I've been out of the area for some time, but you may want to consider Under The Moon, since they have a new larger location, for something kinda "funky". Not sure if they do events, but the food was wonderful when I ate there, and the staff was very warm and attentive.
I'm sure you could find something good in Princeton, but I'm no longer super-familiar with those restaurants. Tre Piani was always uniformly good.
As for hotels with good breakfasts in Bordentown... I think you may be out of luck. You might want to reserve something in that case at Mastoris, as they kinda specialize in that.
kale chips without a dehydrator?
Sauce? I just spritz the leaves with olive oil and sprinkle with cayenne, sea salt or whatever else catches my fancy. Chili powder is a favorite actually.
Rats Restaurant
last i heard, the park was closed to Rat's patrons unless they paid, but I could be really wrong about that. It's only hearsay - you might want to call and ask specifically what the policy is.
Vodka Rigatoni in the Denver area
lol. yeah that's me. I'll give carmine's a try! thanks:)
need help from denver chowhounders!
Im located in park hill, right off MLK Blvd. Just broke my left elbow and blew out the ligaments in my right hand. cant cook, and having a hard time with utensils. any suggestions for places that deliver and have reasonably healthy food? i already like cherry tomato, but might want some variety.
I'm being gifted expired food.
Is you're boss OCD? It's the most charitable explanation I can think of. I can envision a scenario where an OCD person would not want to eat anything past its expiration (while knowing logically that it's not "gone bad") and yet abhorred the waste that would occur if he threw it out.
I'd say just tell him your pantry is currently overstocked and politely ask him to direct his largess elsewhere.
For the record, there was a time in my life when I would have welcomed such "gifts," as patronizing as they could be perceived.
Vodka Rigatoni in the Denver area
Hi,
Vodka rigatoni is kind of a staple in the Northeast, and I sometimes get a craving for it. Are there any Italian restaurants that serve it in the Denver area? Spinelli's makes a pretty good jarred vodka sauce, but getting it fresh is way better.
Thanks!
America's 25 most hated foods
Maybe try some different varieties of it? Other people would know more about the different kinds, but I have noticed a difference. Kale chips are great - just make a limited amount as they're very filling. And it's great in soup. Lentil soup, my turkey soup (basically a kitchen sink soup), etc. I have a friend who puts baby kale in salads.
America's 25 most hated foods
Hm. I agree with the anchovies, oysters, liver, spam, lima beans and okra. And I don't like canned tuna fish. It mystifies me that cauliflower isn't on that list - I consider it to be undead broccoli.
Manual Can Opener?
I have to second the OXO can opener. I've had mine for years and really love it. It's very effective.
Visiting Princeton to New Brunswick area
Good point about the Blue Bottle, BigGeorge - I should have clarified. It would be ideal for the smaller group meals but not the one with 25-30 people. However, I suspect if cost is at all a concern the Peacock Inn will not be a good option, though I've never been. It just gives off a very expensive vibe:)
Visiting Princeton to New Brunswick area
Check out the pricing. My friends and I are on a budget, but we consider it to be quite reasonable for the QUALITY of the food. It's still more than a night out at our favorite Italian joint.
Visiting Princeton to New Brunswick area
Eno Terra and elements are in the Princeton area (probably are more expensive) and have received rave reviews on this site (I have never been to either). For the large group you might want to consider something like Mediterra or Alchemist & Barrister. Teresa's serves decent Italian for a small group. I haven't been in Princeton in a while, so others will more likely have better suggestions.
If you're willing to go to Hopewell, I cannot recommend the Blue Bottle Cafe enough.
I Hate Organic Natural Peanut Butter
No, not at all. Mini poop cannons are a perfectly legitimate conclusion. I applaud your logic.
I Hate Organic Natural Peanut Butter
LOL. Totally makes sense though, in a weird kind of way. From an OCD point of view (when the obsession is cleanliness), the germs and little bugs haven't been killed.
I Hate Organic Natural Peanut Butter
You can like both types of peanut butter, but i call blasphemy on the potato chips in the peanut butter sandwich. And I'm a potato-chips-in-the-sandwich fan, you just lost me with the peanut butter part. Turkey? Sure. Ham and cheese? Sure. Roast beef? Oh yum! But peanut butter with potato chips? We got beef (and not the edible kind).
Isn't this how several branches of Protestantism and Islam started?
Accused of being too interested in food?
Because I have friends that sometimes want to go to Applebees.
Accused of being too interested in food?
Always striving to have the best is frankly exhausting and too rigid a way of life for me. I like good food, but there's a lot of other components to living. I'll swap a really good meal for more time to have with my friends any day of the week. It all depends on where your priorities are.
I Hate Organic Natural Peanut Butter
I've found that buying the kind that's just pureed peanuts is best for me. I then add honey and salt to taste until I get it right. The regular Jif (which i used to love) now just tastes artificial and kinda chemical to me. And I love me some peanut butter!
Food Franchises That Don't Suck
Used to love their roast beef sandwiches, but when I got one at a turnpike stop in PA after more than a decade of going without, it was inedible.
When I was a kid, my dad would always take me there for a baked potato and a roast beef sandwich.
I rinse off my canned beans
The only time I keep what I call 'bean juice' is when I rehydrate dried beans. The stuff that comes in the can I just get rid of through rinsing. I have no idea what's actually in it and I read so much about BPAs, I figure it's best to just clean them off a bit.
Costco worth it for a couple?
I'm a single person. Costco is where I buy all my plastic wrap, foil, fish oil pills (for the dogs), chicken broth, soy milk, toilet paper, paper towels, garbage bags, etc. Organic veggies, chicken breasts, frozen berries (for smoothies) etc. Got a 4-lb bag of quinoa the other day (I really like quinoa!). And my friends use my membership too. I've had my membership about a month, and I think I'll have made back the cost of membership in just a short time.
Basically, I'm trying to eat healthier and live more frugally. Costco helps. I avoid their highly processed foods in general (though I will be heading there for snacks the next time I host a party). I cook/chop the perishables as soon as I get them home and store them.
I think Costco works for couples/singles if you don't buy anything without a plan and set aside enough time to use what you buy effectively.
Best Restaurant in DIA's Jeppesen Terminal?
Oooh. Great suggestion! I'll check with her and see what she prefers.
