Breakfast Suggestions? - N Miami Beach to Hollywood
Thanks Mattstolz, I love DD&Ds & thanks all other hounds who kindly responded to my posts. I'll report back upon my return end of next week.
Breakfast Suggestions? - N Miami Beach to Hollywood
Thanks Nick for your recommendations. Where is Sage located? I read + things about Josh's & would go to there for the pastrami --- just to see how it stacks up to Montreal Smoked Meat! And where is Hiro's Yakko-san located? I love Izakaya. Re Tarks, I don't mind dives as long as they are hospitable to a woman dining solo! So many suggestions, so few nights, what's a girl to do? Which would you suggest for a b-day dinner - again (sadly) solo!
Breakfast Suggestions? - N Miami Beach to Hollywood
Thanks again for sharing your insight. Not sure about your "interesting" reference - can you elaborate? I will be dining solo.
Breakfast Suggestions? - N Miami Beach to Hollywood
Thanks Chowfather. Off breakfast topic - I had already bookmarked Tarks. A bit further south - any thoughts about Josh's Deli? Pilar on Biscayne? Flanigans?
Breakfast Suggestions? - N Miami Beach to Hollywood
Thanks Southocean, way cool! How about some options for seafood/fish for dinner that won't break my Canadian bank?

Staying in Hallendale for 3 day visit end of May Wed-Fri & would appreciate suggestions from locals for breakfast within short drive from Crowne Plaza on S Ocean. Budget will allow for
Jean-Talon Market 2012
On Sunday, I saw that Atkins had lobsters but no idea for how much.
Jean-Talon Market 2012
Atkins has fresh halibut both filets & steaks. Also, saw fiddleheads being sold by a few vendors. Saw Quebec strawberris at Chez Nino but very $$$ - small containder (about 6 berries!) for $3.50.
What's so great about Schwartz's?
The taste of Schwartz's smoked meat makes it great. It is the worldwide benchmark for smoked meat and their sandwiches are best enjoyed or appreciated ordering the meat anywhere from medium fat to extra fat. Lean meat/sandwiches are typically somewhat to very dry and will be "crumbly" LOL! Schwartz's ranked #1 on a whirlwind SM throwdown of 8 years ago when compared to The Main, Snowdon Dell, Abies & Georges. If you do a blind taste test, the results become quite apparent. Hands down, time & time again, it's Schwartz's. Har Gow Freak, save your $ & bypass Reuben's & Katz - but hey, if Lester's is your idea of great, then you will very much enjoy both..
Nathan's Hot Dogs
Can you please find out if they will be selling the dogs with natural casing? IMO, way better than the skinless. Bought 6 packages at Price Chopper in VT 3 weeks ago for $4.99 each.
Restaurant suggestions near Trudeau airport?
Le Gourmand in Pointe Claire village only 10 minutes from airport
Fresh fish
Or if you are willing to go 5-10 minutes drive east, La Mer on Papineau @ Rene Levesque
Openings in 2012
I hope they're not playing an April Fool's Day joke on us and pray this begins a revitalization of the Faubourg.
24 hour Breakfast in Montreal
You may like to try Casse-croute Paulo et Suzanne located on Gouin, W., across the street from Sacre Coeur Hospital. Great discovery for breakfast, lunch, dinner. Check out the link.

Fried shrimp anywhere from North Miami Beach to FLL?
Memories from childhood trips to Miami Beach with the partental units - pretty much all I ate was fried shrimp or steak and mostly at The Pub in the Newport (or Romney Pub for the oldtimers reading this!). Would love to find some awesome fried shrimp. Staying in Sunny Isles but mobile. All recommendations are much appreciated!
Frozen bread roll dough
Not sure if this fits but Loblaws (TMR & NDG) have frozen challah sold in the freezer case in the Kosher section. They carry plain & raisin.
standing rib roast
Second Westmount Butcher. Only let Tony trim it for you (he trims first and then weighs the final product). Last standing rib roast I got, he cut away the bone & then tied it back up again. It was the best prime rib I've ever cooked/tasted. A less pricey option is CostCo. If you don't see what you like in the cold case, the guys in the back will cut the roast to your specs.
Best Pastry shop (patisserie) in Montreal?
Fous Desserts, Cerise sur le gateau & Kouign Amman get my vote. The pain au chocolat at FD is insanely good, also love their almond croissants before they get a big soft or soggy and their chausson aux pommes is like eating buttery apples baked in buttery goodness. Also have yet to find a better mille feuille anywhere; puts Gascone to shame (anyone else feel Gascon's price to quality ratio has dropped significantly lately?) Recently tried Cerise & not impressed with his scones, liked his croissants but prefer FD or KA for croissants. As for KA, their croissants and of course the KA are great.
Yangtze on Van Horne claimed by fire Sunday night
When I lived in the Snowdon area, I used to find Peking Gardens on Queen Mary Road to have equally good if not better Can-chi food. Fine quality egg rolls and plum sauce. Good spring rolls and soups too. Also recall enjoying their Moo Shu pork, Peking Duck and other dishes from sizzling beef to Cantonese noodles with shrimp and veggies, as well as the old stand-byes like pineapple chicken & General Tao, I think there is a sister branch in the WI.
Help choosing a restaurant.
@dawndjp - how was Mezzamis? I have an office xmas party scheduled & haven't read many reviews
BAGELS: NY or MONTREAL BETTER?
IMHO, can't beat either Fairmont or St-Viateur bagels hot out of the oven or even later on day 1.
Is there a GREAT restaurant in or around (30 mins) Montebello?
Chantignoles was great for dinner when I was there with a group last fall. Everything was spot on and no one complained (a first for our work team).
Chinese Food for Jewish Christmas
Curious to know what you order from FKW? And what's with those waiters, especially the bald waiter who is just plain nasty.
Chinese Food for Jewish Christmas
Yantgze is at best very mediocre & not very Cantonese at all compared to other Cantonese restos in the area known as Chinatown. The order we had delivered a few weeks ago was almost inedible, even their egg rolls were meh.
Fish restaurant
Cafe Ferreira gets my vote
-----
Ferreira Cafe
1446 Peel, Montreal, QC H3A 1S8, CA
Who has the BEST Onion soup in MTL or Saint Sauveur
My vote goes to Le Mas des Oliviers on Bishop for traditional French onion soup
Jean-Talon Market Area - 2011
Had their shrimp spring rolls last night - 3 nice sized rolls with for $7. Comes with a dipping sauce (seasoned rice wine vinegar maybe). I liked the veggies inside the roll but the roll did not contain too much shrimp, although you did get a shrimpy taste. They were just ok, a bit greasy. Happy I tried them but wouldn't get them again although I would try other items.
Where can I find a restaurant that cooks rare burgers?
No offense to Elliot K., but my last few burger experiences at Dunns have been terribly mediocre borderline really bad. Dunn's on Decarie have yet to get my medium burger even close to medium, even after being sent back because the meat was so overdone (actually was burnt!). Mr. Steer, for nostalgic reasons fits the bill if you are on Ste. Catherine in the area of Meltcalfe but is really nothing special (but you can order & receive a rare burger) and bonus since their meat is kosher.
High end butcher
I second your second (or is that a third?), melt in your mouth tenderloin, great tasting rib steaks and much more. Super nice people too.
