Top 10 Bars for Beer Snobs

Double Windsor in Windsor Terreace has great beer and even better food. Mission Dolores is great, no food though.

Which 2 fine dining options would you choose?

Per Se is insanely amazing but insanely expensive. Le Bernardin is all seafood. I'd probably go 11 Madison, Daniel and Jean Georges.

However, Blue Hill, Marea, Ko, ABC Kitchen and Bouley although not all "5 star" whatever that means, should be considered.

Disappointing dinner at Saul

I also had a disappointing birthday meal at Saul about a year ago. I don't remember anything being bad, but as you said, nothing stood out. I just felt underwhelmed and wished it was more memorable. The Grocery on the other hand was amazing last time I went.

Colicchio & Sons NOT 3-star [moved from Manhattan board]

I ate in the main dining room and the 3 of the 4 dishes ordered, were borderline awful. Very disappointed. I have heard that the tap room is better. But its just not the type of place you want to keep going back to. The space is too big and the menu has way too many options in my opinion. It seems like diners want smaller more intimate spaces, I know I always do. Plus it is in the meatpacking district. I think it deserves one star.

Anyone eaten at DBGB yet?

I was there recently and also was not blown away. Its a great idea and the menu looks amazing, but I don't think I'd go out of my way to go back.

Had the asparagus with fried egg, the frenchie burger and the piggie burger (split each one). Other people at the table had the bone marrow, the matzoh ball soup and the skate. We split the Toscane sausage. Nothing was really that amazing. The fries that came with the burgers were so over salted, I couldn't eat them. The beer selection was great though.

I guess I'm a purist of sorts but I think pulled pork on a burger is too much. The pork belly which is on the Frenchie burger is a little more understandable but also was too much for me. All the toppings took away from tasting the actual beef.

It was very busy though. And I agree with jgradieoakes that a meal there can go in different directions.

Meh all the way.

Watermelon, Tomato, and Kalamata Olive Salad

I think the tomatoes and olives are overkill. The watermelon and cuccumber are enough. I also add red onion and use feta. But this is a really refreshing crowd friendly recipe. Make sure to drain the mix though, very important. Or you'll have a soup at the bottom of your bowl!

my new hamburger ranking

Anyone had the burger at Hodad's in San Diego? It's pretty darn good. Although I love going, I think Corner Bistro is completely overrated. But I love J.G. Melon and Burger Joint. And yes the Minetta Tavern burgers are something special.

Any must haves at Blue Ribbon Brooklyn?

The chicken is pretty darn great. The ribs appetizer is also. Everyone loves the marrow. You can't really go wrong there in my opinion.

Minetta Tavern Service?

I've been there only once but everything, including the service, was great. This is a McNally restaurant after all. He knows what he is doing and trains his staff accordingly.
