Groupon today for Michael in Winnetka

I am happy to say that I am now able to enjoy Michael's again. This email just came through. Groupon misstated the terms.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks for purchasing the Restaurant Michael Groupon.

Unfortunately, the previous announcement we sent about this Groupon was incorrect. Your Groupon is still valid on Friday and Saturday evenings – you simply cannot make a reservation for those times. Restaurant Michael does not accept any reservations on Friday or Saturday between 6:15 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Sorry for any confusion this might have caused.

This Groupon is still not valid on the blackout dates originally listed in the Fine Print: 2/14/11, 12/24/11 or 12/31/11.

As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail us at support@groupon.com and we’ll be happy to assist you.

And thanks again for using Groupon!

Groupon today for Michael in Winnetka

I purchased the Michael Groupon on January 11. Here is the text of the email I received yesterday:
-------------------------------------------------

Thanks for purchasing the Restaurant Michael Groupon.

We’re writing to inform you of an important change to the redemption instructions for this Groupon.

The redemption instructions originally stated that it was not valid on the following days: 2/14/11, 12/24/11 or 12/31/11. This business has changed these blackout dates to include Fridays and Saturdays between 6:15 p.m. and 8 p.m., so please make sure that your reservation does not fall between those times when using your Groupon.

If you are no longer interested in using this Groupon due to the new information, please let us know at support@groupon.com and we’d be happy to issue you a full refund.

Our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Groupon today for Michael in Winnetka

Appreciate your perspective, but I've been there many times as well, and have enjoyed the meals. I just won't be going back. I have a real problem with what they've done here. It's not like they had never done a Groupon before (they have). And don't worry about me and finding great food - there is a lot of it in the Chicago area. I will never be accused of "depriving" myself of food of any kind...hope you keep enjoying all of it as well.

Groupon today for Michael in Winnetka

Too bad they're pulling a bait-and-switch now, excluding Fri and Sat nights from 615pm to 8pm. How do you honestly change redemption terms a month after people buy a groupon for your restaurant? Ridiculous. Refund, please. Oh, and I'll never go to Michael again.

Smoked whole chicken on a gas Weber...help

So, my wife for Mother's Day has asked for a smoked whole chicken with all the fixings for Mother's Day dinner...problem is, I've never smoked a whole chicken on my gas grill before.

I have a gas Weber with front, center and back burners.

Anybody had any success doing this? And what kind of wood chips should I use?

Thanks to all...I'm really at a loss and would rather not serve up burnt or raw chicken on Mom's Day...

Anyone have an idea for dinner near the United Center?

It's not as close as the places on Randolph Street, but for what it's worth my buddies and I usually go to Club Lucky (1824 W Wabansia) before a Hawks or Bulls game, and then hop on Damen Ave straight down to the United Center.

Is there a covered market in the Chicago area?

I've always wondered about this...is there a big covered market anywhere, along the lines of Chelsea Market in NYC, in the area? It would be wonderful to find someplace with local produce, fresh fish, unique baked goods, etc. with a community feel - anyone know of anything like it? Maybe I'm just hoping...

Food pairings...little help?

Just received a VERY nice bottle (1990, we're a bit overwhelmed) of Pauilliac and would love ideas on some creative main courses for pairing. Everyone I talk to mentions leg of lamb, but unfortunately my better half hasn't eaten lamb in 15 years. Really would love any and all thoughts. Perhaps we just drink it standalone?

Creative thoughts on wine for my butt (pork, that is)?

Thanks for all the thoughts...went with the 2003 Tir Na N'og (grenache, and one of my favorites - grab it if you can find it) and a NV Heidsieck. An eclectic mix, but really worked.

Creative thoughts on wine for my butt (pork, that is)?

So, my pork butt has been cooking low and slow for a couple of hours (smoked with oregano, garlic, olive oil) and will be served with a tomato-based BBQ sauce for slathering/dipping. Any creative recs for pairing other than the more obvious thoughts of Zin/Syrah? I'm curious to paint outside the lines here...

Search Changes

With all of the incredible content you have from prior years, why in the world are you limiting searches to only the past year? Maybe I am missing something, but I am not getting any of "past "stuff" I typically go back to time and again. I have been using CH for many, many years and if that content is no longer available 1) You must be kidding, and 2) I will be seriously pissed. (By the way, let's keep it simple in the future. This new "search functionality" is anything but. CH's best features historically have been its simplicity and ease of use. Please do not mistake movement for progress, although I know that usually is a tough disinction at the corporate level.)

Exactly. Sending them back at that point would have been pointless, as I was starving and (thanks to the long wait for the food) bumping up against the time I needed to leave for a meeting. Regardless, the difference between rare and well-done chops is a huge one that is more than apparent even to the untrained eye. Sorry, for $24 that plate should never have left the kitchen. Like I said, I won't be back but it sounds like wak had a good meal there. May want to give it a shot.

I used to live down there and loved it back in the day. Went about a month ago and sat at the bar for dinner with a friend. Bartender was surly. We ordered a couple of drinks and then entrees. And then we waited. And waited...and waited...and waited...for my grilled lamb chops and when our entrees finally arrived they were luke warm. My lamb chops, instead of rare like I requested, were well-done. I am not exaggerating. No red, not even any pink. Might have been an off night, but I am sad to say I probably won't go back, because I really used to love that place.

Indian food in northern suburbs

Having moved from NYC a while back, we're struggling to find a good Indian place up north. Searched on the Reader's site, and didn't find much. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated...
