Xinh Xinh for groups?

I've moved to Vermont and have been off the board, but am coming back for a weekend, and wanting to have good chinese with old friends. we used to go to Peach Farm regularly and loved that.

how is Xinh Xinh for a party of about 20?

Moving to Middlebury, VT - Where should I eat??

hen of the wood is worth the drive. but I wouldn't want to drive home after dinner there. quite a long haul over the mountains...

Moving to Middlebury, VT - Where should I eat??

heard that Christophe's is giving up. so sad.

Moving to Middlebury, VT - Where should I eat??

it used to be a donut shop. now it is middlebury bagel. they sell out of their plain donuts before 9AM every day, so go early if you don't want to get stuck w/ a boston cream. (the donuts seem to sell much better than the bagels) and yes, they serve pancakes!

Moving to Middlebury, VT - Where should I eat??

The storm cafe is not horrible - but they use soooo many ingredients in every dish - expect to eat something like thai lasagne.

For decent breakfast, go to the donut shop next to the coop. They have the best pancakes in town - pancakes at the Park Diner tend to be runny in the middle. Stick w/ grilled cheese at the park diner.

The taste of india is good, not great. but if you are needing indian food, fits the bill. avoid all the local chinese restaurants like the plague.

american flatbread is the most happening and probably best restaurant in town - but only open on friday and saturday nights.

mary's at baldwin creek is lovely but tired and pretentious. worth a visit, but pricey and not really memerable.

bobcat I agree is very fun and food is good.

for really good beers and the best local ambiance, especially for but not exclusive to toddlers, go to the shoreham inn. they have other things on the menu, but I usually stick w/ the burgers, which are from local cows. apps are always good nice local cheese plate.

mr ups is nothing to write home about, but an excellent choice for lunch in the summer, when you can sit outside.

*The French Laundry* with pictures

hello, which dish is image # 9 in your flckr slide show?

Craftbar

Ate at Craftbar on 1/23. The ginger martinis are very, very fine and $13/ each. Highly recommended by my friend who enjoyed 2 (I had a sip and enjoyed the citrus). The fried oysters (4 for $9) are very salty, but the celleriac puddle is a nice taste, once you have dealt with the salt. The Duck Sandwich is duller than dull - can hardly taste the duck and the bread is too thick and crispy and I guess just the wrong thing with the duck. I assumed this would be a melt in your mouth kind of dish and it was not. The pork dumpling app is like a pig in the blanket, except for the blanket is like a thin polyester blanket. Hot chocolate ($5) not bad, but nothing to write home about. The brown sugar cake w/ icecream was good, but maybe not rich enough after 2 glasses of wine and not enough to eat. The merluza ($20) was very small and no raves from my friend who ate it. Didn't get any comments from my friend who ate the orecchiete. hmm. a nice place to go for drinks. but I fear I should have trusted my instincts and kept it to a drink then a cab elsewhere for an actual dinner. just seems like the food should be richer, or at least more of it, if clients are probably going to have 2 drinks and want to wake up the next morning without hangovers.

Mandoo 2w32 bet b'way and 5

Walking from Penn Station over to Madison Ave, I stumbled upon Mandoo around 1pm. The place was packed and the service was very polite and fast. I had an absolutely delicious dumpling soup and a beer. Tab came to 13 bucks. I was stuffed and satiated in less than 20 minutes. Most other folks seemed to be downing bibimbob or something very interesting looking and satisfying in hot pots that goes for 8.99.

Middlebury, VT - EAT no longer serving dinner

Please talk more about Park Squeeze! haven't been there yet.

My Birthday Dinner- narrow the choices

L'espalier. Very friendly. Always professional service. A bent towards local products. (As a local product supplier to them I can say they a good to us farmers.) Organized staff. Not too bigger than life feeling, but very special.

Around Harvard Square with a Toddler

Any recommendations? We're staying at the Charles Hotel this weekend with no babysitter and will probably eat at Henrietta's kitchen one night, but need ideas for Fast, but wonderful places open at 5pm for dinner and interesting lunch spots.

Middlebury, VT - EAT no longer serving dinner

very sad to say that EAT Good Food is now not serving dinner. I had the most delicous pork chop there ever, and now alas, no pork chops. the problem was probably the slooow service and the fact that folks here like to bring their kids out for dinner, and there were no toys and food came so slowly. The place has turned itself into a wifi cafe with lunch and breakfast. muffins and sandwiches are pretty good. breakfast egg and cheese was decent, but needed mustard. No local cheese alas. for muffins, Carol's hungry mind muffins are better and just around the corner. Coffee I think is a little better at EAT though, and you can get a hot sandwich and check your email at EAT. Carol's lacks wifi.

the lack of dinner at EAT is very disturbing as now there's just Flatbread (open only on fri and sat nights) which is very good, the middlebury inn, which is surprisingly decent. the other restaurants are very tired and the cooking is really not as good as at home, which explains why so many locals never eat out.

that said, I'm still in love with the shoreham inn. good local steak, interesting menu, great wine list for such a little place in the middle of no where. toys for the kids too.

inns that offer cooking classes 2-3 hours from Western CT??

There's the art of cheesemaking at Shelburne Farms...(not exactly cooking, but the setting would be glorious). I don't know what's going on in the summer, but they usually have some sort of cooking thing.

Vermont Recommendations

fyi, the dog team burned down a few months ago.

romatic dinner in burlington vt

with kids in the middlebury area, (or without -- it manages to be romantic, comfortable, pubby, traditional, and kid friendly at the same time) The shoreham inn is amazing. unpretentions, lots of toys general okness with toddlers doing loops around the bar / dining area. great beer, interesting wines by the glass, food generally better quality than the fancy places in middlebury.

romatic dinner in burlington vt

In Burlington, I recommend Smokejacks. Great local cheese tasting course and good wine selection.

Christoph's on the Green is an alternative to Black Sheep (both in Vergennes). More expensive and more elegant but certainly not as much fun as Black Sheep.

EAT is good for lunch in Vergennes. Stop by Champlain Valley Creamery afterwards to see Carlton making cheese.

In Middlebury, I recommend the Middlebury Inn for dinner. Really interesting menu and relaxing. Venison, snails, duck confit, meatloaf, local ingrediants. The desert menu is terribly dull though and the options are all too sweet. I don't think the Inn itself is anything to write home about. However, the Inn has just been sold, and should probably get more interesting (and rennovated) next year. HOpefully they will take down the hideous shutters.

EAT is the more stylish and citified option for dinner in Middlebury. Slow service (read not good for kids, even though they have a good kids menu and pb&j if all else fails).

New this week in Middlebury is a Thai place on route 7 on the east side of the street just south of the Breadloaf architecture offices. Very interesting development and good cheap fare. Take out.

Lodging in Berkshires with great breakfast?

Check out http://guesthouseatfieldfarm.thetrustees.org/
Good breakfast and very cool place to stay. Much more interesting than any of the inns.

Portland Fine Dining Over Xmas

Fore STreet is a good alternative to Hugo's.

Persimmon

did you happen to have the cheese course? just wondering how it is.

Great spot in Boston to bring kids

have heard that the restaurant at the four seasons hotel is good for kids. good kids menu. lots of room around the tables. clean high chairs.

b+b oysters with child?

so cookie magazine mentioned b+b as a great place to bring your kids. anyone tried it (with kids)? how was the food? I used to love to go after work before baby but I'm still afraid to go with my toddler.

No. 9 Park - Disappointing birthday dinner....

so sad! #9 is a standby for an outstanding night out

Louis Restaurant

If Cafe L is not a great option, what would be? I'm hoping fo a location towards the east end of newbury or the south side of charles street?

I guess by good with a baby, I mean the food comes quickly and there are high chairs available. Quick delivery of food is more important than high chair, quality of food before the high chair too, but I guess after the speed. It would be ideal if I could get a good glass of wine and eat something that I wouldn't be able to execute at home with a baby on my hip.

weekend in VT

blue berry hill is chummy. for lunch in middlebury, Try EAT right on Main Street.

Louis Restaurant

anyone been there recently for lunch? am thinking of taking my one year old. (really) would that be apprpriate?

New to Boston; Jamaica Plain Restaurant Reccomendations?

no one has mentioned pizza oggi or pupusa guanaca. are they no longer good? (been away a while, but was surprised not to see them listed)
