Rotisserie Chicken in Bay Area

COSTCO -- can't beat $5 for the biggest chicken ever (though i try not to think about what makes it so big).

dinner sunday nite walking distance from berkeley rep

Jupiter

Potstickers???

I'm a huge fan of King Tsin's potstickers in Berkeley and I'm looking for something comparable in San Francisco. Anywhere east of van ness is great. Crispy bottom, savory juicy meat, thick skin... Don't love Eliza's or Potsticker in chinatown. Oh, and if you are ever in Yreka, Ming's (over 100 year old chinese restaurant) has great ones.

Civic Center SF dinner

Turtle tower is also great, just up from Bodega Bistro - those are my to favorites for Pho

NYC hound ISO nice dinner in the vein of Zuni or Chez Panisse

Limon (Peruvian seafood) is fantastic. It has that wonderful light freshness that you get out here (though, as a former NYr myself, boy do i miss real deli). Delfina is also supposed to be tops but I haven't been there, it's very cramped inside. For a very unique, very California, experience there is a sushi place on mission st. b/t 17th and 18th. 2154 Mission Street. Minako. It's small and because the owner (Judy) does not rush anyone, including her mother the chef, it can take a while to get a table. It feels like a french meal in that you get one dish at a time over a long period. The pieces, home made tofu, tomago etc., are just amazing. It's all organic, they recycle everything and Judy will tell you all about that, and it is nothing like any place you would find in NY. Let's just say, it's the vibe.

Best Inexpensive-Good For Groups-in NORTH BEACH

I once saw a huge group at Michaelangelo's Cafe even though it's a small place. The just pushed all the center tables together -- pretty good place, not the greatest, but enjoyable. also not as expensive as most other places.

any good pubs or breweries on the east bay?

I'll second jupiter. It's just a great place to hang out, especially in nice weather b/c there is a huge back area.

I'll just second that there are a few places at the ferry building and it's a real nice area to see if you are in from out of town.

Happily visiting SF (from SoCal) on Friday. What to eat?

Great Eastern is a seafood place - so any of that is good, i'm fond of their prawn dishes. Also their noodles are home made. Stay away from the potstickers and wonton soup, good but not interesting enough given how good their other stuff is. If they can't fit you in downstairs at Chez Panisse the upstairs is great too.

Recommendations near Polk and California - quick lunch or dinner

I want to redact my recomendation of Bamboo, got it yesterday at it was not very good.

Civic Center SF dinner

It's not very good, but Trader Vic's does have inexpensive happy hour drinks and is right near there.

Sonoma/Napa

Girl and the Fig - amazing food (and very cool use of figs)

Recommendations near Polk and California - quick lunch or dinner

Miller's East West Deli - Polk a block or two north of California -- not very expensive and, speaking as a former NYr, it's no Katz's but it's pretty darn good jewish style deli. I also like Bamboo Chinese Restaurant, great potstickers and a nice lunch menue. I've heard, though I can't say personally, that Mykonos is only so so.

Visiting San Francisco - best restaurant pics

SNOB (Sanoma Napa something something) on Polk is also a good wine bar. Also, it's a pretty short walk to North Beach and Chinatown from union square.

Hi. I just asked this same question and these were the responses. http://www.chowhound.com/topics/show/328759#comments

Esperpento at 3295 22nd St, in the mission (off Valencia) is very good tapas, with larger than average portions, and lower than average prices. they can have a bit of a line but i have never had to wait very long.
You should also consider the union square area or the Ferry Building for dinner (on the embarcadero, great views of the bay). It's a better area for "seeing SF" than the mission if your goal is a little tourism combined with dinner. www.sfgate.com lets you search reviews by neighborhood.

sf trip continues, gold mountain and golden flower

You should try great eastern for dinner. their noodles are fantastic.

If the Bay Area Only Had a .......

Miller's east west deli on Polk -- it's no Langer's but it's as close as i've gotten (w/o spending $18 on a sandwich) north of LA.

most interesting dim sum in the San Francisco area?

Tom Kien (sp?) out in the Richmond on Geary I think is one of the best. It's not dirt cheep but has the largest assortment of dim sum i have ever seen -- even has a lot of fresh vegetable dishes. For ridiculously cheap and great I love Lychee Garden on Powell in chinatown. They do a few unique things there.

Union square for locals?

Wonderful. Great advice -- i'll just add over in the tenderloin Turtle Tower and Bodega Bistro both have great pho (Turtle Tower is a little heavier but i think has better noodles.)

Union square for locals?

Just moved to union square and am trying to find good places to eat, but there are so many restuarants sustained by tourists, it's hard to separate the good from the bad. Looking for all price ranges. Union aquare, nob hill, tendernob, and why not, north beach.

Happily visiting SF (from SoCal) on Friday. What to eat?

If you want the absolute best, Chez Paniisse in Berkeley is where it all began. Great Eastern is really good chinese food in Chinatown. You should go to www.sfgate.com and look at the restaurant reviews, and you can split it up by neighborhood. For late night (I think they are open until 2am) Cancun Burrito on Mission and 19th is perfect -- get the grilled chicken super burrito.

Lobster in March???

THANKS -- much relieved. We were planning on spending a lot of time in Maine, but we will be driving up from NYC, so anything along the way. We would like to eat our way through New England as much as possible.

Sunday Brunch in the East Bay

For fancy, T-Rex in Berkelely. It's a high end rib place at night, which is very good, but what's really the best there is brunch. For more down home, can't go wrong at the Rockridge Cafe on college. Heaping plates eggs benedict.

Lobster in March???

I'm traveling though New England in March and heard that is not lobster season. Any advice for how/where to get good lobster at that time of year?
