Room 41 is the best restaurant in the city - try the chocolate trio for desert and prepare to cry. La Luna very good, but not a high end resto like Room 41.
Family dinner in Hamilton
Try Macheroni on Main West near big Fortino's. Family friendly, large portions, fresh italian food and great atmosphere. Gets busy so call ahead.
Asian Restaurants in Hamilton/Burlington
Cannon and Park is B&T viet food - great soups.
Best sushi is Osaka, but they are relocating and are currently closed. Tried Star Sushi today (King near Mary) - not blown away but pleased.
Jade Garden (James and Vine) has great dim sum.

Best Indian - Curry Inn on Main West and Bond Street in Westdale. New restauruant so few know it, but food is fresh and made to order. I have tried most Indian places in this thread and all are good, but only Curry Inn is great.
Best high end restos in city are 1010 and Room 41. Chains have taken over city and sadly mom and pop diners are rare.
Visting Toronto
Yes, everyone is right - definetely go to Lee's or Susur's. Both restauruants are run by Susur Lee who was called one of the 10 best chefs in the world by one of the main food mags (don't know which). Check out his website for ideas and if $ is no option Susur has an incredible tasting menu for the foodventurous gourmand. I haven't been to Chiado, but I cocncur on all other restuaurant tips already posted.
