Raw Peanuts
Superior Nut company on McGrath Highway in Cambridge has many different kinds of raw nuts.
Another Trip to All Seasons Table, Malden
I've gotten takeout at All Seasons the past two nights. I liked the food so much the first night I had to return the next night to make sure it wasn't a fluke. So far I've tried the Pan fried Gyoza, Summer Rolls, Crispy Aromatic Chicken and Pork Lo Mein. The Aromatic Chicken was a bit on the Salty side but still very tasty. The Lo Mein is the best I've had in quite some time. The summer rolls were very fresh and the chili dipping sauce that came with them was outstanding. I got the Gyoza both nights because I liked them so much. I'm sure I'll return soon to try some of the more exotic dishes. I'm a long time resident of Malden and its nice to have some decent choices in the area.
Who has the cheapest lobsters in Greater Boston
Demoula's has lobsters for $6.99 a lb. Is there any place cheaper in the greater Boston area or somewhere on route 93 between Boston and Concord NH ?
Phantom Gourmet BBQ Beach Party
FYI there is no way a vendor could make money charging a buck a bone for ribs. Those days are long gone. Pork prices aren't what they used to be and then you need to add the cost of rub, sauce, labor and transportation.
driving from Philly to Boston to Maine!
Super Duper Weenie in Fairfield CT has great Dogs and Fries. Rines New York Style Deli in Vernon Connectiut is real good too.
New Englands Best BBQ
I've been reading some of the dissatisfaction people had with the Phantom Gourmet Beach Party so I thought I'd share some info about the best bbq in New England. If you would like to sample bbq from New Englands best BBQ chefs there are two events coming up where you can do that.
The first event is outside of New England this weekend in Lake Placid New York. Several top New England BBQ teams will be participating in a peoples choice rib contest on Saturday June 30th. More info about the event can be found at www.ilbbqf.com
The Second event is the Harpoon Championship of New England in Windsor Vermont on July 28th and 29th. All of the top bbq teams in New England will be there vending. http://www.harpoonbrewery.com/index.cfm/page/Harpoon-Championships-of-New-England-BBQ/cdid/91808/pid/28549
Both of these events have live music and things for the kids to do. Lake Placid did not have beer last year and I'm not sure if they will this year.
BBQ Beach Party - a question
Yes you can purchase bbq at the phantom beach party. There are no 'competitors' at this event, just vendors.
Phantom Gourmet BBQ Beach Party ?
They had a big stage set up so I'm assuming there is going to be music there. They have to pay for the police, city workers clean up , set up blah blah blah and the vendors still need to be able to make a buck or two. So I don't see how anyone paying to get in is a sucker......but hey to each their own.
BBQ Beach Party - a question
Q from Virginia is a top notch bbq competitor. His competition team name is Cool Smoke and he's beaten the top teams in the country. Jack's Down Home BBQ is Jack McDavid who used to cook on food tv with Bobby Flay on Grillin and Chillin. Jack does pretty well in competition too, he took second in Whole Hog at Memphis in May 2 years ago.
Most of the other guys are strictly bbq vendors and I don't know anything about them.
BBQ Beach Party - a question
Not really. The original Pig n Pepper is dead and burried. Rib and brews is in Lowell.
If you really want to try competition bbq food the event to go to is the Harpoon Championship of New England in Windsor Vermont. All the teams vend and many sell their actual leftover competition meat. Plus Harpoon makes a pretty darn good beer. There are also bands playing and a strongman competition.
St. Louis Pork Ribs
Buy the whole spares at Costco and trim them to St Louis yourself. Use the trimmings for stock and snacks.
Exchange Street Bistro, Malden
We had dinner at Exchange Street last night. The service was excellent from start to finish. I also found the caesar salad to be overdressed but the home made croutons and Parmesan Crisp were excellent.
For an appetizer we had Brocoli Rabbi and Provalone cheese spring rolls. Nicely fried and not greasy at all. Yummy in fact.
I had the filet with a mushroom demi glaze. The steak was cooked a perfect medium rare and the demi glaze was tastey. The mashed potatoes with scallions were a bit dry but tasted good. The asparagus may have been overcooked for some people but I like them that way.
My dining companion had three peppercorn sirloin with blue cheese butter. Again the steak was served medium as ordered. There was some grissle on the steak but I guess on Sirloin that's to be expected. It was served with shoestring potatoes that appeared to be fried perfectly. It was also served with some type of squash or zucini that she said was very good.
For dessert I had the Chocolate Explosion. The waitress warned me that during her tasting she could only eat a couple of bites it was so rich. She was right. It's a flourless chocolate cake that is very dense and rich. It was good but a little goes a long way. My dining companion had the apple crisp and really seemed to enjoy it.
All in all an excellent dining experience for the Boston Burbs. I look forward to going back and trying some of the other dishes. I just looked at the website and it does not have the newest menu which was just starting yesterday. Call ahead before you go if you would like to know what's on the menu.
culinary classes in Metro Boston?
How about the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts ?

Pizza in malden
I liked Pisa Pizza when they were in the original location on Highland Ave. When I tried them at the Pearl street location it just wasn't the same. I thought maybe they changed ovens or something. Maybe they are back to making good Pizza. I'll have to give them another try.
Favorite Seasoning/Spice Blends
I haven't tried them all but I really like the Tsunami Spin and the Raging River. I'm looking forward to trying more of them when I run out of these.
Favorite Seasoning/Spice Blends
Here's one that most of you have never heard of. Dizzy Pig BBQ rubs. Now don't let the name fool you, they are not just for making bbq. The rubs are great on Seafood and Poultry and as a seasoning for Vegatables. Some of the rubs have an Asian influence and all are hand ground with the finest spices. I know I sound like a commercial but I am in no way affiliated with the company. I'm just impressed with their products.

If you could only...
If I could only eat one type of cuisine ? It would have to be American. Give me a burger or some golden fried chicken. A slab of ribs and a slice of pecan pie. I mean I love to go out and try different types of cuisine and I would totally miss my Mexican,French and Chinese favorites but I could survive and eat well on an American diet.
Foods most commonly prepared badly... that are great when made well. (Who knew? What's the key?)
Barbecued Beef Brisket. There is so much bad brisket out there I can't believe it. It's what I judge all Barbecue restaurants on.
Pizza in malden
Yes that's where it is. They also have excellent Italian food. Try the Cavatappi with Eggplant it's one of my favorites.
Pizza in malden
Faccia Bella makes a wonderful brick oven pizza. I don't think it's 18 inches in diameter but I don't think you'll be dissapointed if you try it.
Need recs for Saturday dinner close to MIT in Cambridge
I like Atasca for Portuguese and Koreana for Korean. Atasca is in walking distance and Koreana is a little over a mile away which is a hop skip and a jump in a taxi.
