Need a Restaurant to Cater Co. Holiday Party in Albany
The Up and Under Pub in Pt. Richmond is starting a catering business and they have
delicious food. Look up some of the posts. I'm sure you wouldn't be disappointed. I believe
they deliver, as well.

MAMA TANNINO, SONOMA
A friend of mine from Sonoma was raving about this new Italian Restaurant. It is near the Sonoma Market. Anyone been there yet? Would love to have some input.

Bottarga
Wow, loved the article in The Chronicle. Thanks for the link. I didn't know what Bottarga was in 2006. I went to Olivo (Sardinian Restaurant) in London in February and had it on pasta and it blew me away. Have been looking for it ever since. I've been to The Pasta Shop on Fourth St. and they said they have it once in a while. I will call Rockridge Pasta Shop.
Thanks so much for all your help. I really appreciate it

Bottarga
Can someone tell me where I can buy Bottarga in the East Bay? I'm not having any luck in tracking it down. I'll drive to San Francisco if it is available there.
Thanks,

Yankee Pier, Lafayette
No I haven't tried any other locations. I didn't realize there were any. Is it like Pizza Antica or Chow where the chef who started the first one opened a couple of others? The quality of Pizza Antica and Chow has remained high and it looks like the same for Yankee Pier.
Anyone else have any comments? Would like to know what the buzz is at night as I have only gone for lunch and it is always packed.

Yankee Pier, Lafayette
Anyone been there yet? I have gone twice for lunch and had the Shrimp Salad both times as I can't seem to get beyond it. So good and fresh. The Fish and Chips look amazing. When the restaurant first opened, people complained about the noise level, but they have installed acoustical ceiling tiles and it was much quieter yesterday. They also have a tiny bar, if you have to wait. I also noticed a few outside tables and a sand box for kids.
Love some feedback.

Report on Hong Kong Trip in progress
Just ate at Under Bridge Spicy Crab last week. First of all, both places belong to the same owner and serve the same food. The crab is fantastic, but very, very fiery, but oh so succulent. If you can't take fire, don't bother going. They have other dishes, as well, but the crab is the reason you go, IMO.
Anyone else eaten there? Would love some input and opinions as I don't live in H.K. but travel there twice a year.
Thanks,

Indian-French Restaurant?
Dear Hounds,
Just heard back from my friend on the plane and you nailed it. It is La Porte des Indes.
Thank you so much. Chowhound is an amazing resource.

Indian-French Restaurant?
Just returned from London and sat next to a guy on the plane who was raving about an Indian restaurant that was a combination of French and Indian cuisine in London. I assume that meant Indian ingredients with French technique. Unfortunately, he couldn't remember the name of the restaurant. Can anyone help? Sure sounds intriguing as a place to dine on my next visit.
Thanks,

What and where in Hong Kong and Macau
Okay, just talked to my daughter in H.K. and she said another excellent restaurant (a hole in the wall) is O'Manuel on Taipa island. I found it on google. Be sure and check it out.
Anyone out there know anything about it?
I also have some other posts about Hong Kong restaurants on the Hong Kong, China posts.
Here's to good eating!

What and where in Hong Kong and Macau
I second klyeoh. Those are the two restaurants we always make sure we go to in Macau.
I have a daughter who lives in Hong Kong and she said alot of people are going to the casinos for dinner these days, but it sounds more like western food, ie steaks, etc. Some of them may have Macanese food. I'll try and find out.
Enjoy,

Hong Kong trip report
Gee, I feel disappointed for you, after reading your post. Doesn't sound like the food was all that great. Too bad, because it has some of the best food that I've eaten anywhere in the world. I'm not just talking Chinese.
I'm happy you can't wait to go back, but hopefully the boards will help you find more outstanding restaurants next time. They have really led me to some incredible meals!
Here's to your next trip!
Cheers, Cerise.
Green Chili Casserole
Thanks ChiliDude. It is not the one that I am looking for, but I will use it if I can't get the one I want I just remember that the recipe was something like Chili Rellenos, but in a casserole style. I have to take a side dish for a Chili Sin Carne (no meat) on New Year's Day and thought the rellenos casserole would work well. Any other ideas?
Thanks
Green Chili Casserole
I have just gone through two old recipe boxes looking for a recipe that was popular about 20 or so years ago and I can't find it. Can anyone help?. As I recall, it was Ortega chiles, stuffed with cheese and a batter of some sort poured over the top and baked.
I hope someone has the recipe and will post it. Thanks so much.

Best Italian in East Bay
Do you want to stay on this side of the tunnel or are you willing to go to Walnut Creek? Two of us had a superb lunch at Prima last week. Starting with salads of gorgeous greens with Bosc pears and feta. The homemade ravioli with pork (some sort of Japanese name) and a fabulous sauce was excellent. We had variety of delicious buttery cookies for dessert.
One of my big complaints about Prima has always been "I think I got enough to eat but I'm not sure". Not this time. Very generous servings. My only negative is the noise level when you sit on the enclosed terrace. Never a problem inside the restaurant.
Are there any decent wines under $7?
Okay, sent my husband to buy the Archeo Nero d'Avolo from TJ. We opened it and it smelled of plums, took a sip and tasted prunes. ( his first comments were dry, short finish, no complexity, but okay) Let it it sit as he grilled a Butterflied Leg of Lamb, also from TJ's that was just the right size for 2 to 4 people. (never seen one so small, but perfect for you, your better half and a couple of friends.)
It tasted damn good with the lamb, and reminded us of wine froma local village in France. He said he felt the value was of a $7.99 to $8.99 wine.
This is why I love Chowhounds, I would never have noticed the wine, otherwise.
Okay, now let's see if you are paying attention. I had a Reisling from South Eastern Australia and it tasted like gasoline. I'm not kidding. What went wrong? Ghastly! '. What happened?
It was truly shocking, because a couple of nights before, I had a Reisling from the Clare Valley (Australia) that was sublime.
Thanks!

I subscribe to a New Zealand cooking magazine (Dish), and it came today and while looking through it, I saw an ad for Farnese wine. It is a Montepulciano d'Abruzzo. It looked like the same bottle that I had at the restaurant.
There was a quote from Robert Parker saying "one to buy by the carload".
Title
Thanks carswell. I'll bet it was the Montepulgiano d'Abruzzo.
The waiter didn't speak much English and I don't speak Mandarin, so it wasn't easy to communicate. There were six wines listed under Italian Red Wine and I took a chance on 2004 Farnese because of the year. He was able to tell me that it was near Tuscany.
I really appreciate your help.

Title
Help! Last week, while in Hong Kong, I had a gorgeous Italian red wine, 2004, from somewhere near Tuscany, so I assume a Sangiovese. All I can remember is Farnese on the label. It was reasonably priced and wonderful with the hot, spicy, Northern Chinese food we ate. Actually, it would be wonderful with just about anything. I've checked in my wine encyclopedias and can't find it.
I would love to track some down here.
Thanks,

Best Italian restaurant in Hong Kong: Da Domenico?
Just back from Hong Kong and wanted to post about Gaia. There were four of us in our party. There was a guest chef cooking, so the food had a different slant from usual. Excellent, but not the same style. I prefer the regular chef.
The place was packed with two parties of twenty people. We had to wait 1 hour for our first course to arrive. They apologized profusely and brought us an appetizer of Pigeon Breast with a Pumpkin and Cinnamon Sauce. Wonderful combination and perfect for the season. They also comped us at the end of the meal with a generous glass of Moscato. I was impressed. Regardless of the delay, (we were enjoying our Gavi de Gavi and good conversation) I would highly recommend this restaurant.
I also want to mention that Gaia was recognized by the "Gambero Rosso, 2008" A very prestigious Italian Food Guide whose new edition came out a couple of weeks ago. Gaia was one of only a few restaurants recognized outside of Italy.
I was unable to get to De Domenico....too many restaurants, too little time !!! . I asked my daughter (who lives in Hong Kong) about Da Domenico and she said it is a different style..more old fashioned. She and her husband went to Grissini for their Anniversary (September) and the food was excellent, but in a hotel atmosphere and much more subdued.
So...here is to good eating and chowhounds. Love this site and all the info.

My Favorites in Hong Kong (would like to hear yours too)
I realize that I did not make clear, that the bill for Hutong, also included the bar tab for Acqua.

My Favorites in Hong Kong (would like to hear yours too)
Arrived home from Hong Kong today and wanted to post about Aqua and Hutong. Four of us went for drinks at Aqua and dinner at Hutong Thursday evening. We couldn't have been happier with the whole experience. The views from Aqua are spectacular and we sipped our Pouilly Fuisse and watched the light show put on by those gorgeous buildings on Hong Konk Island. I believe they put on the light show for three months at this time of year. They started around 8:30 p.m.
Our dinner was an experience of Northern Chinese Cuisine, which is spicy, and we loved it. Especially the spicy crab. Our mouths were burning, but so delicious. It is a unique experience to have this style of Chinese food for most visitors, I think. My son-in-law did the ordering (he and my daughter live in HK), so I can't name all the different dishes.
I was impressed with the wine list and we managed to drink three bottles during our leisurely dinner. Our waiter was very informative about the food and wine and the service couldn't have been better. The total bill was around $4000.00 Hong Kong dollars.
The other comment I want to make is I loved the decor. I want a house just like that restaurant. Beautiful!
Here's to good eating!

Metro Lafayette
Anyone been there yet? I went with a friend for lunch and had an excellent meal. We sat in the courtyard and the ambience was great. So was the service. We split three courses. We started with a spicey Poke Tuna, Mussels in a cream sauce and a classic Caesar Salad. Acme Bread on the side. My friend had an Iced Tea and I had a glass of Sancerre Wine. I was impressed with the comprehensive Wine List. The chef told me that they hope to evenually list 200 wines.
The bill was $51.00
Not sure if the dinner menu is different from lunch or not. Regardless, the Chef knows his stuff.
I think the Hounds would like this new restaurant. It is at the site of the Le Marquis Restaurant of a few years ago in Lafayette.
Recommendation: Penfold's Shiraz / Cabernet
My son-in-law, an Aussie, who lives in Hong Kong serves this as every day house wine. He got me hooked and I've introduced it to many friends.
Good value.

Alexis Lichine's Guide to the Wines and Vineyards of France.
I'm sure there are. He offered a particular insight into the wines and vineyards as he knew the players and the land.
If you know of a wine book written in his style, please post it.
Thanks so much,

Thanks so much. Can't believe how much I have learned on our exchange on Chowhound. Oh yeah, my four glasses of wine were a bottle of Au Bon Climat Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc.
Eat, Drink and be Merry!! We will touch bases again.
