looking for reccs around Westerly, RI

It's a little pricey, but 84 High St is excellent. Hopping fresh seafood and creative dishes- everything prepared perfectly. Appetizers in the lounge are 1/2 off at happy hour. 2 apps. Make a sizeable meal. Add one of the 20 brews on tap and you've got a fine dinner.

There's a cyber cafe set to open this Friday in Best Video.

Need restaurant reccs in Loire Valley, between Saumur, Chinon, and Tours

I just had a so-so meal at Barrier. Like you said, it is pretty classic. None of the dishes are memorable, except that they were all prepared just right. However, a salmon rillette entree was disgusting- taste and texture of cat food. And the butter was a little off - had that refrigerator taste.

Where to eat in general area near Poissoniere (Paris)?

Wish I could have tried some of these other recommendations, but my computer wasn't cooperating, so I did not see them until now. Next time. Thanks.

Where to eat in general area near Poissoniere (Paris)?

Parigi, insulting responses only put you in a bad light and are not in the spirit of the board. Be nice.
We ate at Chez Jean, showing up at 10 for an 8pm rez (we got caught in the ice/snow "storm" coming in from Sancerre). Jean was a total delight. We ordered wine by the glass, which he topping off, and sent over a free dessert. Even w/o his generosity, the food is excellent, especially the foie gras. Elegant decor, excellent service.

You may want to call my psychiatrist and you two can figure it out.

Where to eat in general area near Poissoniere (Paris)?

Would a woman feel comfortable dining alone in any of these restaurants? Petrelle looks particularly interesting, though their website does not reveal a menu.

Where to eat in general area near Poissoniere (Paris)?

I'm staying 2 nights near Metro Poissoniere, which is accessible to the Gare du Nord and RER. I've been in France for a couple of weeks and am pooped. Now, I don't know this neighborhood which is near Haussman Gare d. N. and Pl. Pigalle.

The meal doesn't have to be a blow out as I am stuffed to the gills, still I want a very good, Parisian meal.
Night # 1 is with a friend, but I will be dining alone the next (Sat.) night and would like a place that I would feel comfortable and not walk alone in a sketchy neighborhood. Thanks!

Sage American Grill, New Haven?

Talk about a let down. We "discovered" Sage while driving around lost one dark night. The faded letters on the weathered shack was all we needed to return. Imagine our shock in the light of day. The shack obscured a large parking lot and a huge marina-side restaurant the likes of Anthony's Pier 4. The food wasn't awful, just dull and overpriced. There are very few outdoor seats and they are first come. Folks there tend to settle in for the evening so don't bother waiting for a table. Our find turned out to be our loss.

New Haven, CT - Any "must eats"?

We had a pretty awful meal and had intention of returning. But now that I see some positive reviews paired with their wine special (Wed. nights bottles are 1/2 price I seem to recall), I'll give it another try.

Sanibel Island where to eat dinner

We were all happy with Doc Ford's. Agree, the shrimp with Yucatan sauce was awesome. So was the shrimp and grits. I am a Southerner and that has to be some of the best grits I have tasted. The buffalo mozerlla dish was great. The only downsides were the drinks (tasteless mojito in an unappetizing presentation and watered down Manhattan) and the crab cakes, which were not chunky but kind ground up. The fish tacos were so-so. Still, I recommend it heartily. Go for their strong suits.

BYOBs in Worcester area

We ate at DaLat last night. We were not happy with any of the food. It wasn't awful, just not to our taste. The beef on rice special was had a sweet sauce on it and the chicken broth used in soups, etc. was also sweet. The beef was cooked very nicely. The noodles and mixed vegetables was very bland with boring vegetables. If you dislike sweet food, this is not the place for you. It is just a matter of preference.

Caseus, New Haven--grumble

Finally tried Caseus last night and loved it EXCEPT:
They charge $5 for bread and butter! What? Given that many a French dish, such as moules frites call for a good slurping sponge, it felt like we were being held up.
One's waiter is responsible for much of the meal. Instead of a bartender, the waiter (Chris in our case) poured our beers which were literally half full. There are no lines on the glasses. Later, we saw another waiter fill the beer to the rim. Obviously we ordered another beer from her. Worse, the $14 cheese plate prepared by Chris was so bare I was shocked he dared served it. Each sample, most of which was rind, was so small it was hard to share. The accompaning bread, again, was pathetically sparse. He neglected the confiture relish. Just to rub salt in the wound, the folks next to us got a lucious cheese plate with jam, bread and a smile.
I'm still a little too pissed to rave about the areas in which they shine, but the food was mostly very good. Monkfish was fresh with a keffir/lemongrass sauce. Avoid the mealy, tasteless tarte. Can't go wrong with moules frites. If anyone ever tries the bread, let us know if it was worth 5 bucks.

Search Board doesn't pare down results

What has happened to my beloved Chowhound? I regularly search the New Haven, CT board. Searches such as NH (spelled out) Chinese or NH Rudys, eg, pulled up all threads that include them. Now, I cannot get to the motherlode of NH posts. I've tried searching NH from the home page and get posts from cities all over the world which don't mention NH, even if I put NH in quotes.

The New England Board nets the same results except within a smaller area. Still, to scroll through all of New England to find anything mentioning NH wears thin. I have tried search boxes all over the place, but still cannot home in (...you say hone in..) on NH. I have been making a thorough study of Happy Hours and would love to share results! Thanks

tucson resto recs?

Cafe Poca Cosa. It is a little higher end than I expected- not a hole in the wall. Chic decor, candlelit, etc. Delicious!

Martha's Vineyard Beach Plum Inn

I know prices are high on the Vineyard, but Oh my God!
Keeping it to the point: the appetizers ran from $18-$28. The main courses ran from $32 (for a tofu dish!) to $45. $6- corking fee for EACH bottle and 10 bucks for a bottle of Pelligrino. Given that, the food left a very bad taste in our mouths. They had the same old menu--- divers scallops, free range chicken, local mesclun and chevre... all tasty, but not exceptional. The service was adequate, but not professional. I'd rather get take-out from Larsen's any day.

Cafe Funchal in New Bedford,MA

My sons and I had a late Sunday lunch at Funchal. Be warned that it is not located in a homey, ethnic neighborhood and that the restaurant is not charming. It is a banquet palace with a humongous bar with about 10 huge screens blaring. The main dining room is quiet, but so huge that it may intimidating if the place is mostly empty. We got mostly Portuguese dishes. The food was good, but not great. I would try a different place next time.

New Haven, CT Top 5 Favorites

AVOID MANOUN'S. I'm sitting in Mamoun's right now forcing myself to eat (rather than leave, gotta make it last to cover the rent on my table- I have to kill). It's easy to nibble because each bite is awful. Got the falafel combo. The falafel were pre-cooked and reconstitued by (baking?) until they are miserable rocks- not hot either. The menu promises 3 falafel balls, there are 3 halves (thank goodness). The pita is barely warm and excessively hard - probaly reheated as well. I cannot swallow it. Baba ganoush and hummus have way too much salt. It drowns out any flavor and is inedible after a couple of bite. The little salad is fine. This is lunch time - NO excuse.

New Haven, CT Top 5 Favorites

We ate at East Melange last night. Finally, a great Chinese restaurant in New Haven. It is a melange of cuisines, but the specials on the board are in Chinese and the owner is from Hong Kong. The soups are fantastic and the stocks are not 'one size fits all'. The only loser was the salt baked shrimp. The prawns themselves were very tasty, but they were in a thick breading, very deep fried. Watercress dumplings fantastic & short rib noodle soup. Many more dishes to try!

Pacifico New Haven, CT

Ate at Pacifico last night. Outdoor seating that would be delightful but for the street noise (boom box guy parked right in front), but it was late and fantastic people watching as the youngsters paraded back and forth (it's located between a night club and BAR).

The drinks were unusual and absoutely excellent. We had a marguerita and mojito, neither too sweet. The pargo was very good, but the whole crispy fish stuffed with a salad and not greasy was one of the best I've had. Will make this place a summer haunt.

African

I've had it with Adulis. Not only is the food white-washed, but they sneak in usurous prices. I recently had a beer there to discover that it was $8 when I got the bill. Never going back.

New Vietnamese restaurant?

Stop the presses. This place is heads above other Vietnamese places I've tried in the area. Hard to know where to begin. The rice paper rolls with a bit of crunch were awesome. I had a clam and black bean dish. There were about 20 huge, fresh clams in a perfect sauce. If you like funky body parts, they have pho with tripe, etc. The broth was rich. The owners are very, very nice. We got her to pull out the durian - a hard to find fruit that stinks to high heaven. I didn't pretend to like it. Open 7 days, 10-9. Report back.

Sunday brunch in New Haven

Stillwaters across the bridge has a great brunch. It's small, light-filled, a bit elegant and the owner is very attentive. You can go on the deck and dine over the water. Check their website.

Barcelona - New Haven

We couldn't get in the first week, but tried again Superbowl Sunday and we were practically alone. Evidentally you can get into anyplace but a sports bar that night. I recall the food and delivery being uneven, but cannot recall the details. But, and this is a biggy, wines under $50. are half price on Sundays and over fifty are 25% off. The atmosphere is very nice near the central firepit, and there are many interesting spaces. We'll go back.

Sunday brunch in New Haven?

Stillwater's on the Quinipeac (sp?). Very rich menu, delicious, good views and great value.

Yeah Shanghai Help

I don't think I've ever had such a bad meal in Chinatown as at Yeah Shanghai. I went for the dumplings, which were very good, but my friend insisted on ordering more dishes. Based on what I saw being served around us I suggested against it. He won and we ended up throwing out alot of food because it was too gross to take home. The 1/2 roasted chicken had cold, shrivelled skin and was too dry to swallow, the salt and pepper cuttlefish was heavily breaded and not spicy - the KFC of chinese food.

Drinks near Lincoln Center

How about 50? I used to hang out at the Saloon after hours waaay back when I waited tables at Tavern on the Green... Looking for lively, mixed aged, nearby, stiff drink.

Drinks near Lincoln Center

I'm looking for a fun place to meet someone for drinks after the opera. Rosa Mex. looked good, but they close at 11:30pm.
Debating between Telepan and Compass for dinner, if that helps.

Fish in New Haven

Hong Kong Grocery on Whitney near Trumbell has some great looking fresh fish that comes in on Tuesdays, I think. They also have a hole-in-the-wall "restaurant" with an awesome buffet. Dinner special is 4 courses with soup of choice for $4.95. I can feed my family of four on it at times. They keep late hours.

New Haven Area Fancy Produce???

Cesare and Romeo's on Orange Street (and Willow?) gets in beautiful treats like locally grown tomatoes, figs, and tri-color tiny potatoes. They do not sell anything starting to wilt. They also have a deli counter (fresh mozzeralla on the sandwiches)and about 10 varities of excellent bread daily. Warning it is expensive.
