Fajita Chicken tostada is great. Chicken taquitos are the best comfort food in LA. My default when I'm exhausted and just need something savory are those chicken taquitos.

Top 5 Downtown L A?

I would head to Maccheroni Republic, it's in your budget and very close to the Chandler.

Friends from out of state moved to Venice CA. Looking for authentic Chinese food Locally?

Formerly California Wok on Wilshire just east of Bundy is about as close to SGV you'll get, without going to SGV. A new chef from SGV took over about 6 months ago.

Venice has some pretty terrible Chinese restaurants.

I think it is, on a Tuesday at 8:30 or later.

Also add: Bar Hayama on Sawtelle.

Mastro's - Best location?

It's not grim at all, there are lights pointing at the ocean, and you can clearly see the waves break, with the whitewash catching the light beautifully.

Mastro's - Best location?

Quality is the same at all, as is service. There are no variations that I've seen, none at all. Malibu has the nicest location, thanks to the view.

Baltaire in Brentwood

Of course I meant to say "service leaves a lot to be desired", not "has". Autocorrect strikes again. Easier way to say it: service was lacking. I was surprised by the inexperienced and nervous wait staff (hostesses were on top of it, however).

Regarding the parking: they have a $7 valet, and I believe they validate for the underground parking. Still, that block is a nightmare for cars, although easier at night and on weekends.

Baltaire in Brentwood

Went last night. I found it extremely expensive for mediocre food. I'd much rather go to Bandera or Hillstone, restaurants that Baltaire clearly wants to emulate.

The room is gorgeous, we were amazed at what they were able to do with the space, and get you to forget that you're in the middle of a bank's plaza. The patio is enclosed by tall wood shutters, creating an intimate and serene setting, despite the massive space. Kudos to the designers. We sat at one of the bar tables outside, it was really lovely.

Service has a lot to be desired. They really do want to please, but I think they hired an amateur and young staff who have no experience in fine dining. We dealt with a lot of different cocktail servers and wait staff, one younger and more lost than the next. Also, no one could be found for big gaps, and drinks took about 10 minutes to be served after ordering. Very odd, given that it was early and fairly empty.

We ate steak, crab legs, creamed spinach, fries, all perfectly fine but nothing to report or rave about - but very expensive ($75/person, one drink each).

Searching for natural casing hot dogs in grocery stores/meat markets in Los Angeles/Southern California

Let's Be Frank at the Helm's Baker on Venice Blvd in Culver City - only on the weekends, can buy the grass-fed beef natural casing in bulk from their truck. Super good.

Casual dinner tomorrow night 3/15 - Westside but not too far west, and some other requirements

Don't forget the marathon is tomorrow, and traffic tends to back up all over LA for the day into the evening.

I would have them meet you somewhere along Washington or Rose, they could go straight up Lincoln. La Cabana would work and you could sit on the patio. Another idea would be Scopa on Washington at Abbot Kinney.

Anything in Culver City - maybe Father's Office

Hollywood Area and Universal Studios

You won't see celebrities in Hollywood nor Universal. As mentioned, Malibu, Santa Monica, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades (especially at Gelson's), and Sunset Plaza are were to go for lunch or dinner. Nobu, Vincenti, any coffee house on Montana Ave, and Cafe Med are pretty surefire spots.

Food at Universal is awful, across the board.

Looking for Classic Mexican in Santa Monica

I love them all - I go to Gilbert's, Don Antonio's, The Talpa, La Cabana, and Lares regularly. They're all really great comfort, family-owned, LA classic Mexican fare. My favorite, food-wise, is The Talpa, but it has little atmosphere. Gilbert's doesn't have a bar, scene. Don Antonio's has the craziest kitsch decor. La Cabana makes their own tortillas. Lare's is solid on all counts.

Stocking Frame, anyone? I need a place the "hang around" downtown.

Some of the places on your list BacoMan are closed. Tiara closed over a year ago.

I love Stocking Frame and go there for lunch all the time. With Pattern Bar, it is the most casual, easy going, friendly, hang-out vibe in DTLA. Super welcoming.

Family friendly restaurants in Santa Monica??

Walk over to M Street Kitchen, Urth Cafe, Tender Greens, Pono Burger, Blue Plate Taco, Loew's Hotel (their bar menu), Chez Jay (grilled chicken, etc).

Malibu in March

Many of the places you list are in PAcific Palisades, not Malibu. You already have so much driving to do that I wouldn't go back and forth to the Palisades. Zuma is an hour from there - and the fact that you're going all the way to LAX and then back to Zuma and then down to Anaheim - I'm exhausted thinking about it.

Zuma, also isn't very close to most of the restaurants you list. I would suggest staying in the general area, places like The Sunset, Spruzzo, even Geoffreys (food is meh, views are spectacular).

In Malibu, the Country Mart has some great places like Tra di Noi, Mr. Chow, John's Garden (lunch), Cafe Habana is ok. Nobu is fantastic, very pricey.

From LAX to Zuma, Back on the Beach is a good idea, there's also the Paradise Cove Cafe, closer to Zuma.

For cheese and wine and nuts, etc, stop at PC Greens or Gelsons in the Marina del Rey or the Palisades.
