Faith and Flower - omg sooo good

They may have changed the menu? It was definitely the lower price. 3 people - 2 Hen dishes, one pasta - 3 ice teas/lemonades, our bill was $52

Restaurants with private rooms in West LA

Picca is the most expensive restaurant I've ever been to in LA (it was $750 for 5 people and we left hungry). Musha is a great idea.

Bar Hayama is another idea, as is Plan Check.

Faith and Flower - omg sooo good

Faith and Flower is near my office, so it was super easy to check it out when they opened for lunch this week.

I had so-so expectations, but let me tell you, it's incredibly delicious. I went with something easy, the Jidori Hen, at $14, it's a bargain in my downtown lunch neighborhood. It's served on English Peas and Smashed Roasted Potatoes, with glazed chopped onions, and each bite is more savory than the last.

My companion had the Whole Wheat Thick Noodle Lamb Ragout and licked the plate clean. Also low price at $12. After many lunches at Bottega Louie and Terroni (and Factory Kitchen, when we take the car), this is a bargain.

I can't wait to go back at night. The room is quiet (but looks like it might be loud), it's pretty (they're going for a late 1800's vibe), and the service is impeccable, even though they're new.

I've been to so many new restaurants in LA (as many of you know), that it's not easy to win me over like this one did. The steak tartar beckons me, as does the Short Ribs. The chef, Michael Hung, is famous for his deviled eggs, but we didn't try them.

Brunch in Santa Monica

Catch at Casa del Mar or the restaurant at Shutters would be my picks.. Both have beautiful ocean views with great food.

72 market street type food ???

I still have the original LA Times recipe for this, too! Also - don't forget, they had one of the great Caesar Salad's, too. And Kevin will be happy to know, probably the best martini- ever.

Downtown suggestions?

Where, exactly, are you staying?

Pacific Dining Car. How is it?

expensive.

But given that you need an early dinner, it probably fits the bill perfectly. The food is consistently good, just surprisingly overpriced.

French Macaroons - alternative to Bottega Louie?

There are other threads on this subject, if you search it - but I'll echo what I've written before: Belwood Bakery in Brentwood has the best in town.

Best macaron spot?

Belwood Bakery in Brentwood has, by far, the best I've tasted in town.

LA Vacation in June - Where to stay

Santa Monica is FILLED with bars and happy hours and great restaurants, and you can do it all on foot from any downtown SM hotel. I recommend (without knowing your budget) The Shore, as it will put you walking distance to endless choices.

Downtown LA has The Ace, which is walking distance to so many of LA's most interesting and new restaurants, and will give you a completely different perspective. Bar upon bar in that area, as well (plus the Ace roof!).

Freddy Smalls

Great bloody mary at Plan Check. The best Bloody Mary ever, though, is at the Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort - any of the bars - they have this recipe that they let sit for a couple days, like a marinara sauce.

Farewell to my favorite Chili Cheeseburger, Tommy's on Lincoln to close

I just learned that Tommy's on Pico and Lincoln is about to become a Starbucks (I think that makes 18 in Santa Monica, alone) - they're on a month to month lease, and so that's that. It's my favorite hangover chili burger, and when the fries are well-done, they're a crispy delight. I'm sad over this news.

Cora's Coffee Shop

I've been to Cafe Brentwood a number of times, it's a favorite of my mother's. The tortilla soup is excellent, it's what I always order. Then, I walk over to Belwood and buy a half dozen Macaroons - easily the best in town.

What restaurant do you really really really miss that is now closed ?????

I was reminiscing last night about Smitty the piano player at Bob Burns, and realized that I really really really miss Bob Burns in Santa Monica. Live jazz at the piano bar (the bar was literally built around the piano) with the jazz legends on bass and piano. I miss it tremendously.

What restaurant do you really really really miss that is now closed ?????

And Valentina was the hostess, she always great me with a big huge hug (I was a little girl).

Jean was part of a group of waiters and busboys who started out at the Villa Capri, which included Dan Tana, Joe Pati (I miss La Famiglia), Matty (of Matteo's) and others. My dad would post in this thread that he really, really, really, misses the Villa Capri

Oh, Nidkodell! I used to love that bar, always Adam West at the bar, telling stories (and he's very funny!). Then we'd go to Small's, afterward, for more drinks. I miss Smalls, too

mexican food on pch/malibu area

Well, now there's Casa Escobar. Howdy's is always good, but no bar (which is probably a good thing given the drive on PCH afterward).

There's also Cafe Habana, which is pretty darn good - billed as Cuban, but it's really more Mexican (menu offers plantains, that's about it for the Cuban part of things, everything else is listed as "Mexican Style")

Does anyone else hate Bay Cities (venice)?

It's in Santa Monica, not Venice, and you last visited it 25 years ago???? Why the sudden urge to post, unless you're just trolling with nothing better to do.

I like it for many reasons, sandwiches have little to do with it, but the Chicken Parm is great.

No. Maudie means Gatsby's - a Brentwood italian eatery that was filled with locals and local celebs. Opened about the same time as Peppone's, similar to Mateo's.

downtown la bday dinner for 15 people

No food on roof at Ace for a few weeks, and the cafe downstairs cannot accommodate 15 people. But worth going to the Ace for a drink after dinner at Terroni or Macheroni Republic or Tiara or Pattern Bar...
