Chaya Brasserie closing 12/31

Now Chaya? I still love Chaya Venice and go all the time, but when I have family in Cedar's, or have a business drink mid-town, Chaya Brasserie is my go-to. It's always solid and the bar is a great place to unwind - gorgeous room.

First Rivera, now this.

From Eater:
Chaya Brasserie, which served a rather creative and forward-thinking menu of French-Asian fare in Beverly Hills for nearly thirty years, is closing at the end of this month. From now until the 30th, executive chef Shigefumi Tachibe will be bringing back original dishes from the 1984 menu, including tuna tartare, grilled veal chop, and miso black bass with beurre blanc. On the 31st, they'll be throwing one final bash with passed hor d'oeuvres, unlimited dinner stations, open dessert bar and more for $65 per person.

Bye Bye Zengo. Hello Cheescake Factory?

It's sad but true. The rooftop restaurants do well only in the summer with all the tourists. But Cheesecake Factory is a huge tourist draw all the time, and will breathe life into that mall.

New Year's Eve Santa Monica with kids?

Chinois is my go-to for NYE festivities, see if they'll allow children for the early seating. Otherwise, I recommend Catch at Casa del Mar next door, they do a whole NYE thing and could be considered hip.

New Year's Eve Santa Monica with kids?

Most restaurants do a fixed menu with two seatings on NYE. What is your budget? Where are you staying? I can't think of any restaurants, actually, that won't have a fixed NYE menu in Santa Monica, not even the hotel restaurants like Catch. Places like Hillstone and Blue Plate Taco and Oysterette won't, and are lively. It all depends if you are looking for hats and glitter and party favors?

Big Dave’s Egg Nog at The Hungry Cat

Does the one you can take home have alcohol in it, or is it a mix for alcohol to be added? What are his ingredients, does anyone know?

New Year's Eve dinner in Santa Monica with daughters

What's your idea of not too expensive? The earlier seatings are always less money than the 9:00 seatings, are you ok with the early seating? Places like Chaya Venice, Catch at Casa del Mar, Chinois, all do great NYE dinners that are festive.

Colori Kitchen, for dinner ?????????

I don't get it, frankly. It's around the corner from my office, so have lunch there, often (although their lunch hours are random lately), and find the pasta too saucy, the entrees too salty. Sometimes, I have a fantastic arrabiata and I keep going back for that same experience - but it, too, is random.

Saturday Night Dinner for BFFs in Santa Monica - WHERE TO GO

I've walked in to (new) Little Door, after being told they are booked up, and been successful getting a table.

Saturday Night Dinner for BFFs in Santa Monica - WHERE TO GO

The Little Door on 26th Street (old Villetta).

Dinner with BFF means wanting to hear each other, so many of the suggestions given wouldn't work, like Rustic Canyon.

Santa Monica

St. Monica -- the church on Lincoln? Or do you mean all of Santa Monica? Santa Monica is filled with fantastic restaurants - Fig, Catch, Bar Pintxo, Hostaria Piccolo, Rustic Canyon, Tar and Roses.. could go on. There's no decent Cuban nor Greek nor Thai, wish there was. Plenty of great pizza - 800 Degrees, CH +NY, Joe's. Venice, nearby, has even more to offer.

Fab's Hot Dogs Westwood.......breaking news

Ended up seeing the movie in Malibu, dinner at Tra Di Noi. First choice was Fabs and Westwood for the movie. I hope this gets resolved with the city.

Fab's Hot Dogs Westwood.......breaking news

Distressing news. Actually was going to go tonight, before seeing Gone Girl. Where will I go for my hot dog fix, now? Does the City truly have nothing better to do?

My Favorite Chinese Lunch Special in WLA - "Formerly" California Wok - $10.95 Live Whole Steamed Tilapia (Rice is extra)

"Formerly" is my now go-to Chinese restaurant (and they deliver!), haven't been disappointed yet. Their Hot and Sour soup is really interesting and layered, with a strong citrus kick -and it's not at all gummy like so many other places.

Solo Business Trip to LA area - Recommendations?

Scott's advice is sound. However, you're on an expense account, so expense the Uber ride to Santa Monica. It will take half the time. Be sure to wait out rush hour (goes until about 9:30/10, because east to west is godawful in the morning.

Have breakfast along Montana, somewhere like Kreation or Art's Table. Someone recommended 3 Square, above - another fantastic breakfast rec. If you want breakfast with a view, head to Casa del Mar or Shutters hotel and enjoy.

Los Angeles Restaurants in the 80's

Bob Burn's, with (blind) Smitty on the piano and that famous bass player whose name I can't remember, he played with the best of the best jazz bands. I loved to sit at the piano bar and have that super garlicky salad with a steak and baked potato (and yes, they made it perfectly, not gummy and no foil). I was a kid (maybe 21), but I loved it as much as I would, today.

Dan Tana's 50th Anniversary

Yes Harry Dean Stanton was there, lots of pictures of him all over the web today.

It was a free event, invite only, strict doorman with list, etc. If anyone follows Vintage Los Angeles on Facebook (if you don't, you should), Alison Martino posted a lot of fantastic photos, including one of moi.

Dan Tana's 50th Anniversary

Well, that was a lot of fun. Even ran into Kevin.

They took over the parking lot and alley, put down green turf, lots of lights, lots of tables, had several buffets and (full) bars, passed appetizers. Endless meatballs, chicken parmesan, shrimp, caprese, eggplant parm, pasta, etc etc. Greatest people watching I've experienced, in years.

ok, where on the westside can i find a GREAT baked potato with sour cream?

Chez Jay has a great baked potato, also The Galley

Bar Toscana, not half bad. Pretty good perhaps.

I love it there, but find it very pricey.

If you could go to one restaurant on your birthday, what restaurant would it be ??????

Without a doubt, it would be SAAM at the Bazaar at SLS. One of the most indulgent and fun birthdays I've ever been to - was 4 hours, and incredible.

Otherwise, probably Dan Tanas :)
