Easy, quick dinner near Orpheum Theater in downtown

It's very clear on the website for the Orpheum, here:
http://www.laorpheum.com/calendar.html

Doors at 7, show at 8.

I highly recommend Pattern Bar and Stocking Frame. Low prices, great food - both have happy hour. The new Argentinian place, 1810, is also quite good - and less of a bar than the other two. All are within 5 minutes walk from Orpheum.

Sherman Oaks dining 'renaissance' - will it draw Angelenos?

No, I see no reason to go there, not unless by force. It's too big a hassle and none of the restaurants you listed appeal to me. I can get the same (and better) in Santa Monica, where I live, and downtown, where I work.

Do you know of great weekly specials which a restaurant runs on a particular day of the week?

James Beach is always consistently tasty and satisfying, and could also be added to the Eye Candy thread. (both staff and clientele)

Do you know of great weekly specials which a restaurant runs on a particular day of the week?

Thursday: James Beach Fried Chicken (it's outstanding) Actually, James Beach has a different special each night, I think Friday is their famous 1 1/4 lb Lobster night.

Saturday: Vito's famous Meatball (size of a softball, 100% veal) spaghetti.

Best Eye Candy Staff in town

Without question it is The Bungalow. Although they serve a minimal menu (a few bite size things), and are mostly a bar, I cannot get over the great looking bartenders and wait staff (both male and female) - and it makes me yearn for my youth, a little.

Who do you follow on the Los Angeles board, and why?

I miss Mollyomormom who would go on these all night binges and report, bite for bite. Also, because she's in my hood, her local knowledge helped a lot (she was the first to steer us to the bacon maple scones at Huckleberry, I believe - now difficult to imagine a time when they didn't exist).

And I miss Kevin, not just because he made the place more lively, but because he asked questions I didn't even know I had, like where the best Dive Bars are.

Fun upbeat restaurants in Beverly Hills?

What hotel and how far does the hotel car take you? If it's the Hilton, then Dan Tana's is within their radius, I believe.

Nice restaurant in LA for thursday date night

Nice for a date, but not in the OPs budget.

ps: rumor has it that Little Door is taking the Villetta space.

A-Frame can be loud, but it has a full bar and great food. Plan Check - I am one of those here who doesn't get it at all, but the drinks are great. Misfit is loud, and I don't think in your budget.

Consider Bar Pintxo, Sunny Spot, Chaya Venice Bar (in the bar it's happy hour all night).

$30/person is almost impossible anywhere.

Gordan Ramsey's Restaurant in West Hollywood?

Not good, and Gordon Ramsey sold the restaurant to the hotel years ago. The place at the Grove is closed.

But do go to The London roof and enjoy drinks with the view.

Marina del Rey

CAfe del Rey would be the only good place in the Marina. Killer Shrimp is great for what it is - and many love it.

Otherwise, head to Abbot Kinney.

NYers with 5 days in LA / Santa Monica over the 4th

Don't even think of going out to Malibu on the 3rd or the 4th. Avoid driving PCH altogether. The 3rd is ok if you head out to Malibu in the afternoon, and hang around until you go for drinks (please drop Geoffreys from your list).

Gjelina is best on a weekday.

Not sure what you will find open on the 4th, you may have to work around that.

Santa Monica for Two friends THIS Thursday

Wondering what you mean by hokey service at Catch? Restaurant and lobby were recently refurbished/redecorated - how is it hokey? I really like it there, and find the room and service relaxing and top notch.

Santa Monica for Two friends THIS Thursday

Besides the house car, there's a SM city electric golf cart thing that you call for pick up - you'll see them all over SM, but only guests of Shutters/Casa del Mar and Shore can arrange pick up rather than just flag one.

You'll like Fig. I also like to avoid the happy hour crowd and go later (and sit overlooking the pool).

Catch at Casa del Mar has nothing to do with other "Catch" restaurants.

Santa Monica for Two friends THIS Thursday

Your hotel has a free shuttle service to anywhere in Santa Monica - don't know if you know that. So you could basically go anywhere.

Gjelina for lunch, for sure.

for the dinner, I would suggest Salt Air, or Rustic Canyon or Tasting Kitchen. If you are looking to walk to dinner, Chinois is still an amazingly good restaurant. Catch is always outstanding, and you have the views.

Other ideas would be Fig, Musha, Bar Pintxo, Ivy.

Driving by Wilshire the other day, the awning was being painted to cover the name of the restaurant -- has it closed?

"Endangered Species" Restaurants: Any Must-Go's Before They Shutter Soon?

Marix Tex Mex in Santa Monica Canyon. Used to be my go-to for those fajita tacos on a Tuesday and was always packed and fun - with several bartenders. Now it's empty and just plain awful, and only one bartender.

l.a.mart area

Do you mean the California Mart on 9th Street? There is so much nearby it's difficult to pick just one place. Woodspoon, Faith and Flower, Baco Mercat, Ace Hotel on the roof or ground floor, Umami, Bottega Louie, Terroni, Peking Kitchen, and so on.

For a downtown restaurant not on your list: Faith and Flower. You probably know the chef from SF, but Faith and Flower is excellent, yet still under the radar on this board. Each meal I've had there has been a treat.

NYer spending 1 night 2 days in LA... What are some unique areas to eat

Roscoe's is rather touristy.

definitely visit Koreatown. Will you have a car? If so, try to head to Monterey Park if you like authentic Chinese food. We have many pockets with amazing restaurants side by side, practically able to take your pick. The area on Wilshire between 10th and 12th in Santa Monica, Rose between 4th and 6th. 9th downtown between Flower and Main, and across Broadway.
