Recommendations for a SF Chowhound's One Night Only Dinner in Hollywood

I avoid Hollywood in the summertime, too many tourists.

Marina del Rey recommendations please

Casa Ado on Washington. Sunny Spot (Roy Choi's place). Gjelina on Abbot Kinney. Tasting Kitchen. Axe. Salt Air. All are walking distance (Abbot Kinney is a longer walk, but if I were in any other city in the world, a normal walk).

Does it have to be Hollywood? Why Hollywood? I can think of so many great places to send you to, in downtown LA. Faith and Flower, Rivera, Bestia, Chaya, Alma, and more.

Mexican near Bergamot: Juquila, Tacomiendo or Monte Alban?

Monte Alban for the consomme and Tacos Por Favor for everything else.

Maude reservation

I'm also a frozen Vodka drinker, and prefer Tito's or Chopin

I have to say, that menu posted above sounds absolutely awful to me. I will happily not speed dial Maude, y'all can have my seat.

Last Hamburger Hamlet Standing (Sherman Oaks) Bites the Dust.

It's true. The old Hamlet is back. A friend bought it (he owns Killer Shrimp), and worked at the Hamlet when he started out in restaurants, under the Lewis' tutelage. He wrote on FB: "As a life long fan and former manager of The Hamburger Hamlet (I have known the family since I was baby) I could not be more excited for the opportunity to reinvigorate this historic brand. Our plan is to celebrate the wonderful history of The Hamburger Hamlet, its founders Harry & Marilyn Lewis along with their children Adam and David, and take the Hamburger Hamlet back to what we all grew up with. The Hamburger Hamlet in Sherman Oaks will reopen in late August with new units coming soon."

L.A. Dish of the Month, August 2014: COCKTAILS and Bar Food

Reminds me to go to Chaya Venice this month, I love their pineapple infusion.

I love Stocking Frame and Pattern Bar.

Rivera is also walking distance.

HAMBURGERS! Home Cooking Dish of the Month for August 2014

I said to roll/pat down to meatball size - but they are definitely called burgers in our family. They're fried burgers, made of hamburger ground beef.

Only at the bar, but on a less crowded night, they'll serve it in a back booth.

HAMBURGERS! Home Cooking Dish of the Month for August 2014

Family recipe, my grandmother always made these, comes from her turn of the century Delancy Street era:

Ground Beef mixed with an egg, chopped onions, mashed garlic clove, water soaked (but squeeze out water) piece of rye bread + paprika, salt, pepper. I usually use a pound of beef to each egg/piece of bread. Make 2 inch sized meatballs, roll each in Matzo Meal, and fry in vegetable oil until deep brown.

Serve with crispy potatoes (I usually fry them with the meatballs) and mustard. So delicious.

This would be a good time for Happy Hour postings, too. Am always looking for new HH spots. August is a good time to hit up the beachside hotel happy hours (Loews, Shutters, Casa del Mar) and the Venice HH's like Canal Club, James Beach, etc

I've already volunteered to join Kevin on this DOM

Easy, quick dinner near Orpheum Theater in downtown

It's very clear on the website for the Orpheum, here:
http://www.laorpheum.com/calendar.html

Doors at 7, show at 8.

I highly recommend Pattern Bar and Stocking Frame. Low prices, great food - both have happy hour. The new Argentinian place, 1810, is also quite good - and less of a bar than the other two. All are within 5 minutes walk from Orpheum.

Sherman Oaks dining 'renaissance' - will it draw Angelenos?

No, I see no reason to go there, not unless by force. It's too big a hassle and none of the restaurants you listed appeal to me. I can get the same (and better) in Santa Monica, where I live, and downtown, where I work.

I walk past it each workday, looks to be about a month or less.

Romantic Restaurant in west LA?

Via Veneto on Main

Do you know of great weekly specials which a restaurant runs on a particular day of the week?

James Beach is always consistently tasty and satisfying, and could also be added to the Eye Candy thread. (both staff and clientele)

Do you know of great weekly specials which a restaurant runs on a particular day of the week?

Thursday: James Beach Fried Chicken (it's outstanding) Actually, James Beach has a different special each night, I think Friday is their famous 1 1/4 lb Lobster night.

Saturday: Vito's famous Meatball (size of a softball, 100% veal) spaghetti.

Best Eye Candy Staff in town

Without question it is The Bungalow. Although they serve a minimal menu (a few bite size things), and are mostly a bar, I cannot get over the great looking bartenders and wait staff (both male and female) - and it makes me yearn for my youth, a little.

Who do you follow on the Los Angeles board, and why?

I miss Mollyomormom who would go on these all night binges and report, bite for bite. Also, because she's in my hood, her local knowledge helped a lot (she was the first to steer us to the bacon maple scones at Huckleberry, I believe - now difficult to imagine a time when they didn't exist).

And I miss Kevin, not just because he made the place more lively, but because he asked questions I didn't even know I had, like where the best Dive Bars are.

Fun upbeat restaurants in Beverly Hills?

What hotel and how far does the hotel car take you? If it's the Hilton, then Dan Tana's is within their radius, I believe.

Nice restaurant in LA for thursday date night

Nice for a date, but not in the OPs budget.

ps: rumor has it that Little Door is taking the Villetta space.

A-Frame can be loud, but it has a full bar and great food. Plan Check - I am one of those here who doesn't get it at all, but the drinks are great. Misfit is loud, and I don't think in your budget.

Consider Bar Pintxo, Sunny Spot, Chaya Venice Bar (in the bar it's happy hour all night).

$30/person is almost impossible anywhere.
