Saturday Night Dinner for BFFs in Santa Monica - WHERE TO GO

I've walked in to (new) Little Door, after being told they are booked up, and been successful getting a table.

Saturday Night Dinner for BFFs in Santa Monica - WHERE TO GO

The Little Door on 26th Street (old Villetta).

Dinner with BFF means wanting to hear each other, so many of the suggestions given wouldn't work, like Rustic Canyon.

Santa Monica

St. Monica -- the church on Lincoln? Or do you mean all of Santa Monica? Santa Monica is filled with fantastic restaurants - Fig, Catch, Bar Pintxo, Hostaria Piccolo, Rustic Canyon, Tar and Roses.. could go on. There's no decent Cuban nor Greek nor Thai, wish there was. Plenty of great pizza - 800 Degrees, CH +NY, Joe's. Venice, nearby, has even more to offer.

Fab's Hot Dogs Westwood.......breaking news

Ended up seeing the movie in Malibu, dinner at Tra Di Noi. First choice was Fabs and Westwood for the movie. I hope this gets resolved with the city.

Fab's Hot Dogs Westwood.......breaking news

Distressing news. Actually was going to go tonight, before seeing Gone Girl. Where will I go for my hot dog fix, now? Does the City truly have nothing better to do?

My Favorite Chinese Lunch Special in WLA - "Formerly" California Wok - $10.95 Live Whole Steamed Tilapia (Rice is extra)

"Formerly" is my now go-to Chinese restaurant (and they deliver!), haven't been disappointed yet. Their Hot and Sour soup is really interesting and layered, with a strong citrus kick -and it's not at all gummy like so many other places.

Solo Business Trip to LA area - Recommendations?

No, hasn't opened yet. It was a pop-up.

Solo Business Trip to LA area - Recommendations?

Scott's advice is sound. However, you're on an expense account, so expense the Uber ride to Santa Monica. It will take half the time. Be sure to wait out rush hour (goes until about 9:30/10, because east to west is godawful in the morning.

Have breakfast along Montana, somewhere like Kreation or Art's Table. Someone recommended 3 Square, above - another fantastic breakfast rec. If you want breakfast with a view, head to Casa del Mar or Shutters hotel and enjoy.

Los Angeles Restaurants in the 80's

Bob Burn's, with (blind) Smitty on the piano and that famous bass player whose name I can't remember, he played with the best of the best jazz bands. I loved to sit at the piano bar and have that super garlicky salad with a steak and baked potato (and yes, they made it perfectly, not gummy and no foil). I was a kid (maybe 21), but I loved it as much as I would, today.

Dan Tana's 50th Anniversary

Yes Harry Dean Stanton was there, lots of pictures of him all over the web today.

It was a free event, invite only, strict doorman with list, etc. If anyone follows Vintage Los Angeles on Facebook (if you don't, you should), Alison Martino posted a lot of fantastic photos, including one of moi.

Dan Tana's 50th Anniversary

Well, that was a lot of fun. Even ran into Kevin.

They took over the parking lot and alley, put down green turf, lots of lights, lots of tables, had several buffets and (full) bars, passed appetizers. Endless meatballs, chicken parmesan, shrimp, caprese, eggplant parm, pasta, etc etc. Greatest people watching I've experienced, in years.

ok, where on the westside can i find a GREAT baked potato with sour cream?

Chez Jay has a great baked potato, also The Galley

Bar Toscana, not half bad. Pretty good perhaps.

I love it there, but find it very pricey.

If you could go to one restaurant on your birthday, what restaurant would it be ??????

Without a doubt, it would be SAAM at the Bazaar at SLS. One of the most indulgent and fun birthdays I've ever been to - was 4 hours, and incredible.

Otherwise, probably Dan Tanas :)

Michael in Santa Monica, old, but maybe new again ?????????

I was there a couple times this summer, a friend loves their happy hour. The bar fills up quickly, the bar menu is varied and food is solid. It does have that 80s feel, but it works for me.

hound-worthy food near carwash @westside

Palisades - on Sunset Blvd behind the hardware store/Pharmaca. Walk over to Maison Giraud.

Personally, I only go to the Bonus car wash on Lincoln at Ashland - they do the best job, it's a hand wash, no swirly streaks afterward (because they use dry towels --not soggy towels like most places). And I go to the taco joint in the next block, which is always satisfying (crunchy beef taco), called Pancho's Tacos.

Wilshire and 24th. Whole Foods, Snug Harbor, and much more.

Terroni (downtown) reviewed

As it's near my office, I have lunch there regularly. It's a great, local, place, but I wouldn't go out of my way to dine there. I actually resent that they don't slice the pizza, and it does nothing for the "integrity" to keep it unsliced. It just frustrated those of us eating it (and usually sharing). I'd rather drive to Factory Kitchen for their pasta than walk to Terroni -- but am happy that it's close by and enjoy it.

Dan Tana's 50th Anniversary

Yes Danny will be there.

3% healthcare charge: coming to more receipts near you

Asking around to my friends who work in restaurants, I'm learning of more and more restaurants who have been paying health care all along and haven't patted themselves on the back.

I'm going to stay away from these restaurants with the surcharge for a while, this really sticks in my craw. The only one that will be tough is Tavern because my mother likes it there.

Is it Last Call for B.o.s. ? (Closing)

Offalo, you were cited/quoted in Eater yesterday, and this conversation you had was made public. FYI

Belcampo hotdog

Wonder if they'll have these at the Santa Monica location? Which I just read was approved for its full liquor license.

Taylor's Steakhouse dinner tonight

Ivy still has great bread with great butter. So does Craft. So does Chez Jay (you have to ask for it though)

I like Taylor's - the atmosphere makes the food (and martini) taste better, to me. I always have a great time there with old friends.

Vaguely and amusing LA-food related (Hello Kitty)

Except that it's sold out.

Sunday brunch in West LA

3 Square has an excellent menu/brunch and the people watching is fantastic. Nothing quite like Abbot Kinney.

Otherwise, Shutters or Casa del Mar are great options with beach views (and prices not much more than those on your list)

Taylor's or the Dresden Room? Where would you go?

Taylor's for the better food. Dresden for the kitsch.

3% healthcare charge: coming to more receipts near you

I'll continue to patronize restaurants that already pay their staff's health insurance, without calling attention to it - places like Valentino.

This really hits me the wrong way, it's the tone of "we're doing something good" and if we don't like it, we're the bad guys. There's an arrogance and total disconnect in that letter posted above. Rather than call attention to the whole thing, just raise prices by a dollar and that's that, we don't even notice. Maybe they don't want to pay the cost of printing new menus, who knows.

11th and Wilshire - Santa Monica

With the news that Callahan's has been bought by the Misfit group, and liquor license in the works, that makes this block (well, I'm stretching it because Callahan's is at Euclid) out of control. My god, now a big huge full bar with Misfit food (sorry, Rustic Canyon, but your bar is too small to take away my R+D business), this is insane (in a good way)

L.A. Dish of the Month, August 2014: COCKTAILS and Bar Food

For this martini drinking ex-smoker, that would be a dangerous thing to serve me. I need to visit Liquid Kitty, would not like to lose it because no one goes anymore. Then again, UCLA is about to start up again, and that'll pack em in.
