Mule Cafe & Wine Bar - closed?

Thank you both.

Wonder why the number is disconnected, then...

Mule Cafe & Wine Bar - closed?

Does anyone know if this place on Fourth Ave in Brooklyn has closed? I just called and the recording said the number was "temporarily disconnected."

Thanks...

What's the goss on the new Flatbush Co-Op?

"The PSFC membership is EXTREMELY diverse, both ethnically and socioeconomically. "

Is that your observation from working and shopping there, or is there actual demographic information available about this? My sense is that the PSFC is very, very white.

East Coast Oysters

Jolie restaurant on Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn has Fisher Island oysters Wednesdays (or maybe that's just the kind that they have this week) for just $1 each!

What's the goss on the new Flatbush Co-Op?

I don't get the Flatbush Food Co-op. When I joined the co-op I marked on the membership form that I wanted to be a working member, but noone ever got in touch with me. I asked about it on my two subsequent visits and essentially got blank stares. They don't seem to want member-workers.

Also, the co-op is prohibitively overpriced, and the produce leaves MUCH to be desired. I can only hope things will change for the better with the move.

Cheap Oysters/Happy Hour - Park Slope area

I'd had brunch at Jolie and not been bowled over (I'll stick to Patois for the all-you-can-drink champagne brunch!) but I tried the tasting menu last night and was impressed.

There were two of us and two choices for each course, so we got one of everything.

1st course:
Zucchini veloute: best zucchini soup I've ever had!
Pate: not as smooth and creamy as I like but fine - meaty, peppery

2nd course:
Crab salad - delightful; seemed like good crab
Asparagus salad - nice, crisp, with a minty(?/maybe) pesto thing going on

Entree:
Tuna steak - good, but too much cilantro for me (I think cilantro's one of those ingredients that should be listed in the description of a dish on the menu, since so many people dislike it.)

Hangar steak with sauteed shallots and potato - delish!

The meats were both perfectly medium-rare, as requested.

Dessert:
Chocolate banana pie with raspberry sauce - heavenly
Creme caramel - nice, good consistency, not too wet or overcold (as at Quercy)

The presentation of each of the dishes was impeccable. And they have a great, not overly expensive wine list. The $36 Cotes du Rhone we chose was delicious.

Good job, Jolie! I'll be back...

What is truffle honey good for or on?

I had it with some St. Andre on a baguette slice and it was pure heaven. Sinfully, luxuriously delicious. Plus you only need a drop or two, which is handy since it's so friggin expensive. But worth every penny.

The Old Brick cafe (New!) on Church Ave, in Kensington

The new Italian place on Church btwn McDonald and Dahill, Ambrosia, is actually not bad, despite that ridiculous fake fireplace/waving flames thing they've got in the alcove above the name out front.

We're desperate for a restaurant, and they're desperate for customers, so might as well give it a try, no?

Monteleone's Bakery

Thanks for the info. Guess I'll have to figure out somewhere else to get my xmas pastries.

Annoying timing... I'm going to Bensonhurst on Saturday for pork store amenities (lard bread and marinated ravioli at Bari's on Avenue U), and would love to get the pastries somewhere out there, but that's the day before Christmas eve, and I'd rather get the pastries fresh Sunday morning.

Oh well, hopefully Monteleone's will be ready by next Christmas!

Monteleone's Bakery

Any updates on Monteleone's? Anyone know for sure if it's open?

I have to order my mini-pastries for Christmas eve!

I tried the old number (718-624-9253)but it's not in service...

Thanks!
