Top 5 going to Kona

My husband and I are heading to Kona in a couple of weeks for our anniversary.
I'd just like to get an idea from the foodies here what you think the top five meals are on the island.
We'd like to go all out on this trip..so we're thinking of the more expensive restaurants that serve great dinners.

We'd always enjoyed going to Alan Wong's at the Four Seasons in years past..but I understand the restaurant has been closed for a while (and now the hotel due to tsunami damage)

so anyway...I would be very appreciative of any and all suggestions.

Thanks!

SF Woman Dining Alone, Dinner Rec Midtown

I've had good luck dining alone at Bar Americain..the bar can get busy..but they
have dining friendly bar stools with backs and the service is always good.
52nd near 7th.

Breakfast Business Meeting Suggestions - Either Midtown or Union Square area

I'm sure this is too late..but Market on 6th avenue and 21st is a great bet...great eggs bene et al..deserted in the mornings

Pre-dinner drinks in or around Beverly Hills

I would suggest Jar.. (beverly and sweetzer) The bar stools are very comfortable (ok, I am officially an OLD LADY for noting such a thing) and the drinks/wine choices are great. Plus they bring out complimentary warm potato chips with ranch sauce for dipping and have a great nut combo for nibbling. ok, officially..OLD LADY OUT.

Mozza 2 Go ~ Delivery and Take Out

tried Mozza2go for the first time this week. The shop was super cute and the person behind the counter was great. I got the Nancy Chopped Salad and the Bundino...was surprised the total was $25 for the two. The Bundino is worth the $8...the chopped salad isn't that 'special' def. not worth the price.

Reservoir in Silverlake?

Wendysland..I'm so glad I read your review/comment...I was just thinking of finally checking it out (after giving it time to work out the opening kinks) I will def. not be going now. THANKYOU

Reservoir in Silverlake?

I can't wait to try Reservoir and agree with some of the postings that Blair's has really gone down in quality.

Two Boots Pizza?

I had it the other night with friends and we all thought it was fantastic...!

Solo diner in Manhattan for Thanksgiving Day

I am in the same boat as you and was thinking of trying one of the nicer hotels in the city.
Most of the nicer hotels are bound to have a sit down dinner or buffet and there should be a few solo travelers that find themselves alone in the city.

Best Tasting Menu for under $150?

Blue Hill's tasting menu is superb...and for under $150 you can also have them do the wine pairing for each course. I think both the menu and wine with are $120.

Why can't NY understand the croissant?

La Bergamonte
9th avenue near 20th.

Osteria Mozza / Not-so-Nice-a

I know what you mean by 'set the tone for the evening' because I waited 4 weeks for a reservation at 6:15 pm..Upon arriving the valet wouldn't let me get out of my car before asking me if I had a reservation. Even after telling him twice he had to call another valet over and have a discussion between the two of them...I guess to discern if I 'looked like someone' who would have a reservation..After another interaction/conversation with them I was finally allowed to get out of my car and go into Mozza...but the mood was def. already established and I was in a bad mood. (ps would have self parked, but you all know it's impossible around there, especially at that time of traffic.)

In Search of... Breakfast in Silverlake.

Blair's no longer serves breakfast during the week. I think it fell victim to the fact that they could never get their service in the am to get their act together..I'd call to see if they're doing a brunch on the weekends.

How's the BRANZINO at Angelini Osteria?

I think they're branzino there is best in LA...only bad news is they sometimes run out of it. I also love the grilled octopus salad to start. I don't know about 'house' wines..but they have an excellent selection all from italy, and if you tell them what you're in the mood for, they'll bring you a couple of different tastes to choose from. They also have wine in carafes.

Did Vinoteca in Los Feliz close?

drove by today on Hillhurst and it looks like the signage is down and the place is dark.

DiningAlone-What High Quality/Upscale Restaurant Would I not Feel Weird at on A Saturday Evening?

I love Jar, AOC or Lucques. Also the bar at the Beverly Wilshire allows you to order off the Cut menu. I also love ordering at the bar at Blair's, but that's in Los Feliz and a bit of a drive for you.
I would suggest hitting all of these places no later than 6:30 to get a seat.

Hunting down that outrageous carrot cake!

Liz--I believe the carrot cake at Alcove was made by someone who goes by 'the crazy cake lady' and she's based out of Culver City. I'm a regular at both places and I think she may be just a wee bit off...I was in there once when she came in yelling about a cake. Maybe you can google to find her contact info.

Blair's in Silverlake??

It is still good, but the servers have a lot of attitude for a neighborhoody place. I had heard he was opening in Studio City too.

place with great food and wifi in Los Feliz or Silverlake?

anyone have any suggestions for a restaurant in the area that has wi-fi and food...sick of Starbuck's...Thanks!

Richie Palmer's - another authentic NY pizza?

Richie Palmer is 'The' Richie of Mulberry St. Pizza.

Other then Taylors

def. try Edendale Grill (they recently revamped their menu) it has a hipper bar scene and separate restaurant that's more 'old scool' also Tam O'Shantner is part of the Lawry Steakhouse family...it's always reliable and good...like Taylor's. Both are in or close to Los Feliz.

A grown up place in Los Feliz/Silverlake

I'd vote for Blair's on Rowena...great food and wine..and more mellow than the other places mentioned...great for conversation.

Kumo or Katsuya (hllywd)??

I've gone to both and would encourage you to try Kumo. They have many of the Katsuya favorites (crispy rice spicy tuna and baked crab hand roll)...I just liked the food and the service over Katsuya..which was kind of cheesy...I feel I have to warn you that both places are very expensive...I went with a group of girls and the food and booze was around $100 a person at both places. (drinks are very pricey)

Best donuts around Los Feliz?

can't think of the name of the place..but it's located in a strip mall on Hillhurst and Prospect. Hot and fresh donuts from 6:30 am on...and fresh makes a big difference.

Finally tried Lark Bakery in Silverlake

Had a delicious 'salted caramel cupcake'...the great thing about this bakery is that the cupcakes look good...but not TOO good...so if you wanted to try and pass off that you really baked these goodies and bring them to someone's house..you could just get away with it. Will def. try again.

Pinkberry Silverlake open

just saw the new store is open..I'm curious to try because last week I tried the Vermont Pinkberry and noticed the "yogurt" is definitely tasting different...they're obviously tweeking the formula or something.

coffee intelligencia open?

Did they open in Silverlake already? Pat mentioned on her blog they had some sort of opening party...

Juice box wine at Target

I've tried the wine cube and love it! I'm a white wine drinker, and think their chardonnay is the best of their white wines. It's great to bring to a party with a bow..people always call the following week to say how surprised they are that's it's good.

Il Capriccio Pizzeria first impressions

I gave it a try last night and was let down. I simply ordered a 'large cheese to go' and when I picked the pizza up I discovered it was a 'margherita' pizza...tomato sauce with mozzarella just dabbed on...I told the girl at the counter I had thought it would just be a 'large cheese' pizza and she responded..."oh..you wanted the margherita americano..."..oh well. The sauce was bland and the pizza dough wasn't cooked in the center. As a local, I was really hoping for more.

Is Private Catering the Way to Go?

I had a bad exprience with Joan's on Third catering a party for 35 in my home...(could never get a live person on the phone from their 'catering department' the serving sizes they provided were way too skimpy, then they blew out the power in my kitchen with a faulty appliance they brought with them, (the head waiter told me it 'happened all the time' when they brought this one item to sites) I recently used Danielle Steckler...www.paperpalate.com...and she was fabulous.
