Nourish - Outstanding Caterer in Rehoboth Beach, DE

I just got off the phone with my mother who was overjoyed the birthday meal that Nourish catered for us this weekend. It's not easy to please 10 adults and 7 kids but we were so happy with the results.
Every single dish was delicious, fresh, and of excellent quality. My step-brother the chef was extremely impressed overall and especially by the way they managed to grill everything so that it had a wonderfully smokey flavor, without being overcooked despite the fact that the food was prepared for pick-up. (In fact, we had more of the salmon for dinner tonight and it was just as delicious reheated.)
I want to mention that the key lime cheesecake, flank steak (which we finished cold at breakfast this morning), tamari grilled salmon, and the yukon gold potatoes with shitake mushrooms were standouts, but everything was so good, it's hard to call those out without feeling like I'm somehow slighting the appetizers (mango spring rolls, tomato/garlic bruschetta, and grilled vegetables with aioli) which were also wonderful. We could not get over how enormous the birthday cakes were (perhaps I should have asked about their size) and how fresh. Those leftovers will be shared with many happy teachers in two schools tomorrow, so they certainly won't go to waste.

Jane couldn't have been kinder as we placed the order and picked it up and Deberah was creative with her menu suggestions and flexible in accordance with our preferences.

This was a leap of faith since we don't live nearby and didn't really have a recommendation (except what we found online). But the website was cute and had some good info on it and when we picked up the phone, everyone we spoke with was kind and helpful, so we went for it. And we're glad we did!

Rehoboth in October

We just had a wonderful catered event in Rehoboth Beach that was catered by Nourish (a family event for 10 adults and 7 kids). The quality, freshness, creativity and appearance of the food was so much more than I had any right to expect, considering I was ordering based on the website and not a particular friend's recommendation. I have to believe that their prepared foods would be equally good. Jane and Deberah were just excellent to work with as well. Best dishes: tamari grilled salmon, yukon gold potatoes with shitake mushrooms, key lime cheesecake. Amazing. I'll definitely be calling them again next time I'm in the area.

Radice in Blue Bell Wow!

On Route 202, between 73 and Morris Road. If you are on 202 and facing that entrance to MCCC (Montgomery County Community College), it's to the right.

How's your CSA this season?

We use Red Earth CSA and things have been OK. One disappointment was that their Sour Cherry crop got hit by a late frost, so none of those. I think they are suffering from tomato issues this year as well. In general though, we LOVE having a CSA with a buying club option (not all have that) and we belong to Winter Harvest as our buying club throughout the year.

Strufella .. Where to Buy or Recipe

Sounds quite a lot like teighlach - the Jewish sweet that is made for Rosh Hashanah. It is also balls of dough, fried/baked, rolled in heated honey with candied cherries and almonds or walnuts, then formed into a pyramid/tower shape. Very sticky and yummy. I guess its a good recipe for a sweet holiday.

Kotobuki in Hauppauge - is it as good as they say?

Just went tonight. It was excellent. But the rolls are simply too big for one bite. I'd rather have more smaller bites than fewer huge ones.

But in addition, I had the shitake/asparagus appetizer which was wonderful, even if the sauce had too much butter in it.

Where are you getting your Turkey's from?

Philadelphia Winter Harvest also has organic turkeys on offer to members.

Where can I buy Black Currant Juice?

In my experience, Ribena is HIGHLY sweetened. Perhaps there is an unsweetened variety, but please check before using.

Good Food Market in Chestnut Hill

My understanding is that they are trying, and always intended to offer gelato and house-made items but the zoning board has thrown up roadblocks. Hopefully they'll appeal the ruling and be able to show what they're really all about.

Good Food Market in Chestnut Hill

I've been following their zoning woes in the Chestnut Hill Local. They went before the zoning board and despite previous support of the zoning board and jumping through many hoops to satisfy the neighbors, they were denied the zoning necessary for sandwich production on-site, coffee, and gelato. I hope they are going to appeal this. CH desperately needs viable businesses, especially since there are so many empty storefronts in CH and now they're saying Borders might be going out of business too. I don't understand, really.

Good Food Market in Chestnut Hill

Despite some hideous zoning battles, the Good Food Market is open in Chestnut Hill. (http://goodfoodmarket.net/

)

Their goal is to provide upscale convenience food and to add walkable shopping to the CH landscape. I'm really hoping for their success!

Any reviews? I haven't been there yet, but plan to go check it out soon.

Jules Thin Crust

My family went for the first time today (Jenkintown location) and we really enjoyed it. The servers were really helpful and friendly and even sat my kids at a table while we stared at the options trying to make up our minds, and brought my sons glasses of water.
We got a plain (for one son) and Brooklyn (for other son) and my husband and I shared 4 slices which was slightly more than we needed:
-apple/ricotta/butternut squash (sweet , but not oversweet, almost desserty)
- panchetta and butter bean - my husband's favorite
- roasted chicken with marinated tomatoes (my second fave)
- whole wheat crust with artichoke, mozz, gorgonzola, basil (my favorite)

Everything was really fresh and while some weren't very warm (because the toppings would have reacted badly, I think), it was all warm enough and some were hot. There were more toppings than cheese and the crust was thin but definitely NOT cardboardy. Even the whole wheat crust was tasty and not hard - in fact, that one was my favorite.

I agree with JCap that I would go there again not when I wanted pizza, but when I wanted a creative, healthful, tasty, cheap dinner where my children are welcome.

Favorite Philly Lunch Trucks?

Felafel truck at 16th and JFK is definitely back and has been there for months. Maybe they just took a vacation back in Feb? Good, authentic felafel and my coworker swears by their lentil soup (only available in cooler temps, not in summer).

Ground Cherry Pie is here! [moved from Pennsylvania]

Ground cherries are also known as physalis (do a google search or go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physalis) and are similar to cape gooseberries - a small husk tomato-like fruit that tastes similar to pineapple or strawberry. My husband and son aren't fans unless they're in pie form, but alas, that's not likely to happen because my younger son loves to eat them raw.

We grew them last year and this year we had uncountable volunteer plants in our garden (read "weeds") - we pulled most but let just a few remain and they're prolific.

Need a restaurant that won't turn our table (Philly 'burbs)

My family reserved a room at Blue Horse in Blue Bell this past spring and we had a great meal in a nicely decorated private room with very good service. We were also given a prix fixe $17.99 meal which included appetizer, entree, dessert. Creative and tasty food. We were all very positive about the experience and this is not always an easy crowd :)

Where can I find hibiscus flowers?

You can also buy them online at most tea shops (dragonwater.com definitely has it). If you have a Middle Eastern market near you, you can find them there as well. Hibiscus tea in Egypt is called "karkadi."

Salad Bars in Center City

Oh So Good on 19th and Market looked "okay" when I stopped in last week, and the price was fairly high, but I think all prices have gone up (so disregard the 2003 prices in the thread above). I'm still partial to Cafe 59 on JFK and 16-17th. Less expensive and closer to my work, so until I find a better option...

Where to get the Best Burgers in Montgomery County PA?

As I've previously posted, I'm a big fan of Yo Dogs on Willow Grove Avenue in Wyndmoor. Big burgers, soft and fresh buns, generous toppings, good prices. Burgers available in beef, turkey, and black bean. Their fries are outstanding (mmmm....garlic fries) and they even have some lovely looking salads so you can pretend that your meal is healthy! I've had a lot of 5 Guys and while I like them very much, they're not nearby and Yo Dogs might just be yummier and less greasy (in my experience at least).

Salad Bars in Center City

It's time to bring back this thread for a refresh. I like to go to Cafe 59 on JFK between 16th and 17th. Simple, fresh, good. The Four Seasons (on Chestnut?) is too pricey for me and everything,(I mean, everything) tastes like garlic, but visually it's stunning - huge assortment of options.

Any other Center City salad bars to recommend?

Zake's Cakes, Fort Washington/Flourtown

While your post (and most of your other posts that I've read) sounds very much like PR (perhaps it's just your writing style though), I have to agree that Zakes's is terrific. Usually the gender balance is way in the favor of females over males ("ladies who lunch"), I think that's more because of the excellent soup/salad/sandwich options which may appeal to light eaters more than heavy eaters (regardless of gender).

I'm especially grateful for their children's plate ($5, on request) which includes, fruit, cheese, turkey slices and makes for a very healthy kids' lunch out.

Sushi on Mondays?

We've all heard (thanks to Tony Bourdain) that you shouldn't order fish on Mondays. But how about sushi? Does the rule hold true? Should I avoid sushi on Mondays? Why? Why not?

Thanks!

Jack's Firehouse?

We ate there last summer and really enjoyed their brisket and ribs. I got a fish dish (trout or red snapper maybe?) that was much better than I'd expected. I remember their chicken "fingers" for my sons were great. Basket of muffins/scones at the beginning is good if a little dull. But they give you fabulous fresh baked chocolate chip cookies with the check.

Philly - dogs, I mean hot dogs

That's what I was going to say! The dogs we had were boiled, but you could ask for them to be grilled and I'm sure they'd be happy to do it.

Best Burger in Bucks County?

I've just posted a long review of Yo Dogs, a burger/dog takeout joint in Wyndmoor (Montgomery County). Thoroughly enjoyable. I think you might want to take a spin down Willow Grove Avenue to try it out!
