Port Aransas Cook-your-catch?

Wharf was good but are now closed. Fins does it and has great scenery of harbor. We enjoy Castaways and have had our fish cooked there. I will try to think of others. We are going this weekend.

Moving to New Braunfels from SEATTLE - Need PHO and a good farmers market

I have tried Siam near 3009 and IH35 and it is very good. I especially like the lunch special. It was last item on menu. I ordered it with pork and it came with peppers and onion. Everything was so fresh and flavorful, sauce was delectable. Best Thai I had had in awhile. Went back with DH on a Saturday and had to order off dinner menu. Not as good and very sm portions. But I will go back for lunch specials.

5th & Lavaca

We had a blast! We first went to Belmont, pretty god crowd on the patio downstairs. We shared a appetizer of fired calamari-it was tasty. Husband has glass of red wine and I had a mojito-not very good. We walked down to Gingerbread Man-lots of guys drinkng beer on the patio. I tried a St. Arnolds Lawnmover on the bartenders rec, very good. Then we went to 219 West, this was my favorite of all. It was dark, lively, fun and had a happy hour till 9. We heard the matinis were 1/2 off, so we tried both the jamaicatini (so-so) and the chocolatini (very good) The half priced appetizers all looked good but decided to grab a hot italian sandwich from Hog Island Deli and go back to room. It was good, like the balsamic and oil, which we requested on the side. The bread was a little too chewy.

We also enjoyed Marias Taco Express the next day. And in SoCo, the Enoteca Vespaio sausage pizza. We headed to Lockhart on Sunday and got BBQ to go at both Blacks and Smittys, will have it tonite. We had lunch at Mr. Taco. I was leery of trying new mexican place, since I have my favs here, but it was all very good, shared a chicken flauta plate-3 huge flautas, good beans. All in all, a great weekend. Todd Rungren concert at Antones another highlight!

You guys (and girls) are always so much help. Where to get a quick and casual meal in this area? We are headed into town for a show at Antones this weekend and will probably take a cab from Town Lake Holiday Inn. We also will have car on Friday nite and need ideas in the area, again for casual, good chow and/or happy hour. Thanks

Best seafood in Port "A" and Rockport?

Venetian is very good and great atmosphere, but expensive. We only go to Snoopys if its close to sunset. Foods OK, not great, mostly fried items. We like Shells for lunch, but yes, its usually a wait for a table.

Best seafood in Port "A" and Rockport?

Our favorite in Port A is The Wharf. If you're getting off the ferry, its the first right on Cut Off Road. Any fresh fish in their garlic sauce is very good.

San Antonio Report

Great report! Thanks! I have been wanting to try Acenar. When I worked downtown adn La Frite opened, we had luch there a couple times. I loved the mussels and frites with the sauce. Yummy. And since my big 5-0 birthday is coming up, Bin 555 sounds perfect-thanks for the ideas. I have tried the thai place once for food to go but will try it again. Oh, and next time, dont forget one of my favs- Chris Madrids burgers on Blanco near where the original Blanco cafe is.

Just Moved from Austin to San Antonio...

Chef Chans is good, I have had many lunches there. If you go down one more exit to Ingram and take the turnaround, theres an awesome vietnamese pho place, all the food is good. Cant remember name-but it does have Pho in it. I had a slice of Miss Ellies pizza yesterday-their italian sausage is THE best. Its near intersection of Bitters and 281 in the northeast corner. John the Greek has great food. And you have to try Chris Madrids burger-my fav!

Can of beans...your favorite recipe using one

Lately, we have been draining and rising a can of black beans and adding a half can or more of spicy V8 to it. Simmer and add cumin, chil powder, other spices if desired and serve it with rice. Oh, one nite I browned and chopped up a turkey burger and added to it. Great bean soup/chili.

Dough Pizzeria (SAT) great new pizza

We were going to try this place Friday night but were running late to meet friends so tried to order TO GO. We were told no. Guess thats also due to the limited oven space. My DH, who has been in the food business most of his life could not believe it. I scooted him out of there before he could say anything. We later laughed that the look on his face was like out of a Larry David, Curb your Enthusiam episode. Now, we call it "No To Go-at Dough" or "Nough Pizzeria" We were willing to wait at bar and have a glass of wine, but ended up at Carmelos which we hadnt tried either and enjoyed.

Best BBQ on I-35 between Dallas and San Antonio?

We stopped right off the highway in Kyle (I think about 30 min south of Austin) at a place called RailRoad BBQ I think. The brisket and sauce was not bad.

Has anyone else tried the carnita tacos at Los Robertos? They are killer! $2.20 and they give you 2 corn tortillas so I usually make 2 small tacos. The place is always packed during lunch, fast and friendly service. Near 281 and Bitters Rd., in the shopping center next to theater and close to that Hobby Lobby. They are open 24/7 but I have only been during lunch.

Lockhart BBQ

Well Guys, We had to stop somewhere on the way to Austin which meant right off the highway. Husband suggested a place in Kyle called Railroad BBQ. It was not bad, we split about 1/3 lb brisket. I know good brisket doesnt need sauce, but theirs was peppery and very good. It satisfied our BBQ fix. But am still looking forward to Lockhart one day!
