This weekend in Rome

Thanks for the info! I didn't think of myself taking up a table since in the States I usually sit at the restaurant bar if I'm dining alone.

This weekend in Rome

Hi all, I'm a bit behind in my research and already here in Rome! I arrived today, but was feeling under the weather so decided to stay in and recover so I can make the most of the remaining days, but I also missed out on a day of food! I will need to cram as much as possible in Friday - Monday.

I noticed reservations are recommended at most CH-popular restaurants. Is this also necessary for a single diner? I did read PixieM's reports and she seemed to only mention reservations when her husband was in town.

Most recommendations that I've read are for restaurants in general, but I'd like to ask for specific Roman/Italian dishes and where best to experience them. Is there something in particular that is in season right now?

I *think* the following are considered local dishes. Please correct me if I'm wrong and if not, please recommend your favorite restaurant for each:
- cacio e pepe
- bucatini all’amatriciana
- spaghetti alla carbonara

I'd like to try Steve R's recommendation of pajata at Perilli. I can't seem to find a website to see reservation availability though?

I will be heading to the Vatican tomorrow and will stop by Pizzarium since pizza is also on my list.

And one non-food related question if anyone knows... The Galleria Borghese has availability almost all day on Saturday, and it's free! Which makes me wonder if something else going on in the city or if certain exhibits are unavailable this Saturday?

Thanks for your time!

Orlando - sports bars near WDW and Marriott's Harbour Lake

Hi~
I'm flying in Thursday afternoon and barring any delays will be looking for a sports bar near the Marriott Harbour Lake to watch the Giants/Phillies game. Also, we'll be park hopping Saturday and Sunday and would love to know if there is anywhere on the property to watch the games while we take breaks. The ESPN Grill does not seem to get very good reviews. Is this the only restaurant on site that will have the game on? Are there any other options close by? I would like to be able to maximize my time at Disney and also be able to watch my beloved Giants.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Does dim sum just suck in San Fran?

Lung Fung is also my family's fave! We used to live around the corner and any time one of us is in the neighborhood, we pick some up.

New Cafe/Cupcakery: American Cupcake

I stopped by and picked up a few cupcakes last week and they were shared by three of us. We all agreed lemon was our least favorite. The cake was too dry. Two of us preferred the chocolate, while the third preferred the red velvet. Full disclosure- the one who picked red velvet is not a chocolate fan, while the two who did do love chocolate. In the end, we decided American Cupcake did not warrant a second visit.

Chinese Caterer/Catering in San Francisco Bay Area?

Hi Mrs Lin,
I wasn't able to find your comments on the Zen catering. My brother is currently looking for a Chinese caterer for his wedding and is considering Zen since they have a mobile kitchen. Was the food as good as it is when prepared at their restaurant?
Thanks!

Madrid - Sunday Birthday Dinner?

Your recommendation to make a resrvation slipped my mind and we (along with a line of people waiting for Casa Lucio to open) were turned away. We ended up following some locals to an establishment across the street that was pretty good, but had the worst service we experienced in Madrid. The waitress was plain rude and had no patience at all for my minimal Spanish.

London - Gordon Ramsay

Thanks for your suggestions. We had a reservation to Maze, but wasn't able to make it. We did dine at Tom Aikens and neither of us were impressed. Dessert was the highlight of the meal.

Need Cool Wine Bar Atmosphere Near Moscone

I would say most wine bars would be yuppie-ish. There are several places near the ballpark - District and South on Townsend and Bacar on Brannan. There's also a lounge area at Azie on Folsom, a block down from Moscone.

London - Gordon Ramsay

Hi~
I am visiting London next week, and my friend who is living there just informed me she was unable to secure a reservation for Gordon Ramsay-RHR (which I requested so long ago!). She did make reservations at Tom Aikens, but I was so looking forward to experiencing a GR restaurant. It sounds like the others are not up to par with GR-RHR. Should I dine at one of his other establishments, or if I can't dine at the best, don't bother at all?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Madrid - Sunday Birthday Dinner?

Hi~
I'm traveling with a friend to Madrid, arriving Friday night (11/7) and leaving first thing Monday morning (11/10). Her birthday is on Sunday and I am having the hardest time finding a restaurant for her birthday dinner. Not only is it a Sunday, but it is also a holiday (Dia de la Virgen de la Almudena). Searching the board and the net, it looks like these are open on Sundays, but I'm unsure about holidays. Does anyone have comments on these places, or other suggestions?

El Paraguas - Calle de Jorge Juan
Casa Lucio - Calle Cava Baja
Botin - Calle de los Cuchilleros

I have no idea where we are staying as my friend is in charge of figuring that out. I think close to the major tourist sites though. One concern of hers was safety since one of her coworkers was mugged in Madrid. Are any of these restaurants in a sketchy neighborhood?

Thanks for your help!

Fish & Chips

Town Hall has awesome fish. I don't recall how the chips were, but I'm sure they were good as well.

Buddha Jumps over the Wall

My grandmother is turning 80 in August and we've started to discuss plans as this is a big birthday for Chinese people. My father would like to have Buddha Jumps over the Wall for this special occasion, but has no idea which restaurants offer it, and if it would be good. Has anyone had this recently in San Francisco/Peninsula?
Thanks in advance.

$30/person dinner near Kapalua for 16 people

I was looking at Sansei and I guess I got confused. I thought they were moving to Lahaina because it has a Lahaina address on their website. Thanks for pointing out they'll still be in Kapalua.

Prime rib halfway between Concord and SF?

It's my aunt's birthday and half of us live in SF and the other half reside in Concord. Any good prime rib places in between these two cities? Thanks!

Good Chinese in Mission/Potrero Hill

I also hit up Jade Cafe when I'm craving Cantonese food. Sunflower Vietnamese on 16th & Valencia is decent. I haven't tried the pho there though.

$30/person dinner near Kapalua for 16 people

I've searched the site, but it seems most of the recs are a bit of a drive from Kapalua. We're looking for a restaurant that can accomodate 16 adults and 4 babies (less than 2 years old) with the following:

Location - within 15 minutes of Kapalua
Price - approximately $30 per person
Open on Mondays for dinner (rules out Fish & Poi)

Any suggestions? Please?

Thanks!
