I don't know who made those turkey dogs either. They were really good. I just bought a house, and I've been running my BBQ like crazy. I haven't had any time to go out on dog runs.

I'm not dead.... just living in Pacoima!

Great Salads

For the past couple of months, I've been lunching at Dino's Pizza in Burbank. Their Spinach Salad with chicken is huge and always fresh. I've had a couple of their other salads and they're great too. Burbank Bl at Hollywood Way

Regular-Size Hot Dogs

The best regular dogmeat in town is at Carneys. It snaps, sqirts. perfect spice... couldn't be better. I have had very bad luck with QTs and Pinks. For more details, see www.hotdogspot.com

French Onion Soup

Because the croutons are huge and sometimes they soak up most of the soup. Also, it's nice to have some crunch to the croutons, rather than have them turn into wet garlic bread.

Steve Doggie-Dogg

French Onion Soup

The Coral in Burbank has good French Onion. Ask for the croutons on the side though.

Coffee shops / cafes w/free wireless internet?

The Coral Cafe in Burbank has free wifi. (But don't let the folks across the street at the recording studio with the open network know about it!)

See ya

Any Argentinean gems I don't know about?

There's a tiny place called Colo's tucked in the back of a mini mall across from the giant neon clown at Circus Liquors at Vineland and Burbank Bl in North Hollywood. Pretty darn good and they have a butcher shop too.

Anyplace good in Van Nuys?

Mercado Buenos Aires is a great place for Argentinian empandas, meats and sausages. It's on Van Nuys Bl not too far South of Hogly Wogly.

The Wiener Factory

This is the only "bird dog" I'll eat. It actually tastes like turkey. The mild polish with red cabbage is my very most favorite though.

Best Burger in Los Angeles

In the valley, I'm fond of Carney's half pound burger. It's huge and the onions and tomatos are great, which isn't always the case at burger joints.

CORNDOGS!!! Who makes the best?!

I have yet to find a corndog that isn't a chicken frank inside. Why do they put crummy bird dogs in corn dogs?!

Where should I eat my first oxtail

Krua Thai on Sherman Way has a delicious oxtail soup.

Good food in NoHo/Burbank?

Try the salads and the soups at the Coral. They're excellent. You won't find many other choices in Burbank after 9pm than the Coral. Service is good just about every night except Thursdays when the LA Science Fantasy group arrives en masse and fills the place to overflowing. It's worth fighting the crowds to people watch though... that group is just about the most eccentric group of people I've ever seen and they have remarkable skull shapes! They arrive around 10 on Thursday nights. I never miss a Thursday at the Coral. It's a happening joint!

Good food in NoHo/Burbank?

The baby back ribs at PP are much better than BP. They're leaner, have better texture and are smokier tasting. The BBQ sauce is better at PP too- I think Big Papi is out of a jar. But BP is a southern style BBQ- southerners don't generally use a tomato based sauce. If anything, they use a vinegar and chili mixture to spice it up. The sides are lousy at Big Papi with the exception of the beans, but its saving grace is the BBQ chicken. It's amazing. I don't care for the blubbery dinosaur chickens at Hogly Wogly, and the chicken breast at PP is a little too healthy for my taste. Big Papi nails chicken perfectly. I could eat it all day. I have to admit that the atmosphere (or lack of it) is a challenge at Big Papi. Picnic benches inside! The service is better at PP too.

Good food in NoHo/Burbank?

I second Dino's and Amazing Thai (try the sizzling entree special- it is amazing). Another close place to Magnolia and Cahuenga would be Big Papi's BBQ at Burbank near Cahuenga. I'll add the down home coffee shop charm of the Coral Cafe on Burbank just east of Hollywood Way, the Pivoting Portal on Vanowen and Vineland for BBQ, Jarin Thai and Casita Taco on Magnolia between Lankershim and Tujunga. Carney's Hot Dogs and Hamburgers on Ventura Bl near Whitsett. Great joints all.

Friends don't let friends do Sittons.

The East sides new HOT DOG spot !

I'll wait till the construction clears up. I avoid long waddles from the car to the dog. Are they open late?

The Stand does have natural casings. It's just a very light casing, like the one at Skooby's. Is Papa Cantelli the brand you were trying to think of? They're good, but unless they come out of the steamer just right, they don't snap.

Carney's has the best dogmeat. I like the Ralph's dollar dogs too. Wish I knew who made those.

Smokehouse, Tally Rand, Auntie Em's, or none of the above?

I like the Turkey melt at Tally Rand better than the chicken club. Get it with bacon and avocado and go crazy!

Fact or Fiction - Sabrett dogs near Amoeba Records?

I find Sabretts, Vienna Beef and Hoffy to be three completely different things. Sabretts is wet inside with a slightly rubbery casing and a lot of garlic in the spice. Vienna Beef is just about the perfect dog, juicy without being wet, snappy casing and smokey spice. Hoffy is a bland thing with occasional crunchy chunks of "mystery meat items" (especially the Hoffy Polish).

Fact or Fiction - Sabrett dogs near Amoeba Records?

You can get Sabrett dogs all over LA. Vienna Beef natural casings are the ones that are tough to find.

Top Dog-style Hot Dog in L.A.?

The Carney's dogs are made special for them. They won't tell where they get them- trade secret. You can buy them uncooked by the pound for your own BBQ or hot dog party though.

Top Dog-style Hot Dog in L.A.?

I personally don't care as much for kosher dogs. If it doesn't have a natural casing, it might as well be a Costco dog. The best dogmeat in LA is Carney's. Their dog is perfectly spiced, snappy and it squirts properly when you bite into it. (It won't squirt if it's grilled...)

ISO: Good Thai green curry

On Saturdays, they have a second type of curry which is finely ground and is served over rice noodles. There's larb gai, beef salad, pad thai, pad see yoo, bbq chicken, eggplant, dumplings, egg noodles, green beans, fresh fruit, soup, some sort of sticky chicken, etc... lots of stuff. It's all you can eat for $6.99. One of the best deals in town.

ISO: Good Thai green curry

On Saturday lunch, they make a great green curry at Thai Kitchen in Burbank. It's part of the all you can eat buffet. I usually don't like green curry because most places load it up with sugar, but at Thai Kitchen it's great. Burbank Bl just a few blocks west of Buena Vista.

The Best Hot Dog I've EVER had... you'll be surprised!

I have to say that I have had spoiled natural casing Vienna Beef hot dogs on more than one occasion at more than one location of QT Chicago Dogs. I didn't get sick, but the meat had the odor of curdled milk. I contacted Vienna Beef, and their representative said that would be a clear sign that the dog was being refrigerated improperly or kept beyond its freshness date. If anyone knows of another location serving natural casing Vienna Beef, please let me know. Larry's Dogs in Burbank is now serving Hoffy and Home Plate in Reseda has stopped carrying the natural casing foot long. Taste Chicago only carries the collogen casing dogs.

The Best Hot Dog I've EVER had... you'll be surprised!

I've been tied to local hangouts during hot dog hours by work. Hot dog stands all seem to close early. When the work load lightens up and I'm free again during non-vampire hours, I'll be out doggin' again.

Also, NoHo has been experiencing a BBQ rennaissance of sorts. I've been distracted by ribs and tritip!
