Kid-friendly BBQ

My 6 year old would love T.Rex's baby back ribs, but the seasoning is a bit too hot for him. Any suggestions for other places that are similar to T.Rex but without a spicy dry rub? Bo's?

Walker's Pie Shop closing 9/30

The sign I saw said the lunch special was 7.95. There's also a change of ownership sign in the window and it looks like a bistro is going in.

East Bay bakeries for small and cheap wedding cake/cupcakes

Even though it may be out of the price range, it's probably worth calling Gayle's in Capitola to see what they could do for $250. Much shorter commute time with the goodies.

My Lunch at the French Laundry - Little Magic and Surprising Service Lapses - Long

Sounds delicious, but the two-day shipping to the East Bay is $43. Yikes!

Union Square Breakfast

Yes, we were happily surprised too. We were told they open at 8 am.

Union Square Breakfast

Thanks for all the suggestions, but we ended up at Lichee Garden. At 9 am, the place was about half full, and the quality of the dim sum (although not outstanding) was perfectly fine.

Union Square Breakfast

I wish Dottie's would work, but we just can't wait that long. I think we're going to change course completely and all head to clement street for some dim sum. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Union Square Breakfast

I'm meeting some friends from LA tomorrow morning for breakfast. All together, there are four adults and two children. Criteria: no long lines and must be open by 9 am.

I don't want to end up at Mel's Diner . . . help!

What to order at China Village?

It is on the to go menu. It's entitled: "Changsha Chicken in a Clay Pot (White Meat)"

What to order at China Village?

I think you and I have similar tastes, and I really like the Chang Sha chicken - strips of chicken breast stir-fried with water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, snap peas and this mildly spicy sauce. Yum! Definitely try that at some point. I'm not sure they have it printed on their to go menu anymore-- maybe it's still on the menu inside the restaurant? What's your favorite thing at King Tsin? I've never been there.

What to order at China Village?

No one's responded yet? Ok, I know a lot people love this place and order all kinds of things. But we live down the street and always order the Chang Sha Chicken and Mixed Vegetable Prawns. That said, I think their food is a bit on the greasy side.

Salad in Civic Center

I'd love to find a place that sells a mixed green or spinach salad with grilled chicken for $10 or under. Is it hopeless?

Feel free to recommend a good Vietnamese chicken salad as well. I used to order that salad at Phu Huong (Pink flamingo) but they recently closed and I haven't been able to find a suitable replacement.

Sushi Sho on Solano, Berkeley?

I'm not that adventurous (get california rolls and tempura), but always go to Miyuki's, which is only a block or two away from Sushi Sho. They have this amazingly great combo deal at lunch.

What I wouldn't give for a nice blueberry muffin

Yes, I have bought them from the takeout counter, and it was pretty early in the morning.

I thought the blueberry muffins at Bette's Diner on Fourth Street were really good. Can't vouch for the coffee, however, because I don't drink it.

Quick trip - Need advice

Thanks for the quick replies. Per your advice, we've decided to cancel Cochon and spend more time enjoying the French Quarter. We will make sure to stop at Acme too. Thanks!

Quick trip - Need advice

We are heading to NO this weekend and will be staying in the French Quarter with no car. We basically have all day Friday (and only Friday) to hang out and walk around. We currently have a lunch reservations at Cochon, but I'm wondering if maybe we should do a more casual lunch so we have adequate time to sightsee. So, my question is, would you still keep the Cochon lunch reservation or go somewhere a bit more casual and quicker in the French Quarter? And, if the latter, what would you recommend? The only other mealtime we have available is Saturday, and we currently have a brunch reservation at Commander's Palace. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Fonda

I saw a sign yesterday that they are now open for lunch. They don't have a lunch menu online yet and I'm wondering if it's the same as dinner. Anyone been?

Eccolo or 900 Grayson for brunch?

Thanks for all the comments. Although I didn't see most of them in time, I am still happy with my choice -- Eccolo. The service was a bit slow, but the food was very good. I really wanted to try their hamburgers, so I got that with cheddar cheese and bacon, with an order of french fries. I thought that the burger was good, but was not blown away. I usually like thicker cut french fries, but I found their fries, which are much thinner, to be excellent. My husband got the crab omelet. As mentioned before, this was unbelievably good. I kept taking bites of his. We NEVER get to go out for brunch (we have young children and don't find it all that relaxing to go to brunch with them) so I'm glad we did Eccolo since it seems to be more of a special occasion place. Will get to 900 Grayson soon though . . . Thanks again!

Been wanting to try both places and can't decide between the two. Which would you pick?
