Tajine Re-opened!!

We were just there on Sunday and it was just as good. The mosaic salad and chicken bastilla were even better than we remember, though it could be because we haven't had them for a while.

Best tasting menu lunch in the peninsula?

I second that, we also felt hungry after our dinner.

We're moving to San Francisco! Now if only we had a decent Japanese place.

I'd highly recommand "Sanmi" on Geary not far from the Bridge Theatre. It is family owned and operated. It pretty much fits your description. On any given days, you would see a few Japanese families there having a good time. At times, there could be a line, but we never had to wait too long.

around Brava theater @ 24th street...

any good casual places to eat before the show?

A great dim sum meal

May Flower is our favorite dim sum place in the Richmond neighborhood. There are some creative items not found at other places, and the prices are very reasonable. Give it a try.

Who Remembers the Sesame Chicken from the Restaurant Sanmi from the late 70s!!?

I have been to Sanmi restaurant on Geary several times and really enjoyed my meals there. They specialize in home style Japanese cooking and I think they do have sesame chicken on the menu, though I have not tried it. You may want to check it out.

2009 Feast of the seven fishes at Michael Minna

We went there about 3 years ago and we were very dissappointed. I think there were 5 courses, and one of them did have 3 kinds of seafood (a pasta dish), and that is how they claimed "the seven fishes" special. Not one single dish was exciting, they were all very mediocre, definitely not worth the price. The worst thing was dessert, a plate of pedestrain cookies, that was it. They tasted like some packaged store bought type. I am surprised that they are still offering this.

Lunch at Le Meurice

My parisian friend suggested the two of us to try their 3-course lunch for around 75euro. Has anyone tried it?

reasonable afternoon tea in London

Are there any good places for afternoon tea without spending too much? Would prefer some place not too dressy either. Someone suggested Fornum and Mason, worth trying?

affordable and tasty in Paris

Looking for places that are affordable yet very tasty to try (under 25eur for lunch and under 50 for dinner), any type of cuisine at all. Thanks in advance for all your help.

chive blossoms

A lot of chinese grocery stores in the Richmond and Sunset area carry this all the time, Mei Wah on Clement would be a good one to try.

Excellent Cantonese at Asian Pearl Milbrae

Thanks for the report. Can't wait to check it out . FYI -- the name of the chinese herb is xia ku cao 夏枯草, the middle character means death not mushroom (though it is a homophone). This kind of herb dies in the summer time and comes back later, thus the name death in summer grass.

Kalimeris Indica

Does anyone know the common name of this aromatic vegetable/herb, and where can I buy fresh one? The Chinese name is Ma Lan Tao, and they are usually available frozen only. While we are at it, how about Toona Sinensis?

Bushi-Tei Lunch

We've been to BT several times and we were never dissappointed. Your lunch report sounds so good we must go back soon. Thank you.

Best source for Orange Beef?

I did a search on this board and did not find any that hates this place. How did you come to this conclusion? Did you have a really bad personal experience there? Interestingly enough, I always consider Eric, Alice, Eliza and Abacus belong to the same category of California Chinese restaurants. Here is one that likes Abacus --

Desperate for hazelnut paste

Rainbow grocery might have it.

Best source for Orange Beef?

I like the one at Abacus, give it a try.

Romantic Restaurant Suggestions. Birthday wkend

I also agree that Acquerello would be a great choice. My boy friend took me there for my birthday this year. We had an absolutely wonderful dinner. Do order the prix fixe dinner, it is more reasonable than any other high end places in my opinion.

bitter taste in zuchini

Is there a way/secret in choosing zuchini? I sometimes find them to be just unpleasantly bitter. I tried salting them, it doesn't always work. But when it does, it tastes really good. Thoughts anyone?

bistro menu in bay area

Just came back from Portland, had a wonderful dinner at Higgins. We chose to sit in the more casual dining room for the bistro menu which basically offers almost all the same items but with reduced prices. That was a pleasant surprise to us, therefor I tried to think of this kind of offering in the bay area. I don't think I can come up with any. The only thing close to a bistro menu is a bar menu or happy hour menu, but often times it means sit at the counter. Does any one know of any?

needs brunch/lunch recs around manchester

We are driving up north on Sunday, what are some good places for brunch/lunch around this area (mendocino, manchester, searanch...).

1st timer needs recs on portland and seattle

Thanks, great info. Higgins was also recommanded by a friend.

1st timer needs recs on portland and seattle

We're driving up from SF, there are two of us. We are thinking perhaps one expensive dinner in each city and reasonable ones for the rest, any cuisine would do, as long as they are chow-worthy. We are also not big wine drinker. Hope this helps.

1st timer needs recs on portland and seattle

Will spend 2 days each on both cities for the very first time this coming weekend. Where are the "must try" places?

need help on name of vegetable

Thanks. This is exactly it. It is also called Basella alba. More info on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malabar_spinach

need help on name of vegetable

What is the English name of an Asian vegetalbe that is dark green and it is kind of slimy after it is cooked. The Cantonese calls it "san choi", san meaning slimy. Is it Malabar Spinach?

suggestions on road trip to seattle

We are taking a road trip (driving) from SF to Seattle along the scenic route at the end of this month. I would appreciate any recommandations on great places to eat (from cheap to expensive).

What to order at Helmand Palace

What are some of your favorite things to order -- Banjan Borawni, Kaddo, Lamb Korma.......?

SF romantic dinner for under $50 for two. Possible?

Abacus in the Nopa area is quite intimate and romantic, flowers and candles abound, $50 would get you two a very nice dinner. It is a Cal-Chinese place and I think there are many vegetarian options.

ISO Cany Cap Mushroom

Any store in the bay area that sells this?
