Outstanding in Acton

While preparing for our trip to Mass., I noted the lack of enthusiasm for dining in the Concord area. With that in mind, I was concerned when we decided to try Sprigs this evening. We were amazed. My wife's description was "flawless execution without pretention". The meal compared favorably with a visit to Primo in Maine last summer. We were impressed from the outset, as 4 different staff members welcomed us as we waited for our table to be prepared (we hadn't made reservations), I was reminded of the welcome we received at Commanders Palace in New Orleans. Our waitress Kate maintained the standard as we pestered her with questions throughout the meal, and she remained the consumate professional, knowledgeable, attentive and good spirited The charcuterie platter consisted of cured lomo, duck confit, lamb pate and braised pork belly--all made in house, and impeccably good. My entree of duck breast and sweet potato gnocchi was prepared perfectly, almost melt in the mouth, as just enough fat remained after roasting to make the meat lusciously tender. My wife had the special of the evening, rabbit wrapped in prosciutto with a pear glaze. The meat was much lighter than expected, and the flavors melded magically. The molten chocolate tarte with house-made ice cream, almond tuille and hazlenut brittle was delicious and beautifully presented. The sum of the courses and service amounted to an outstanding meal in a lovely, comfortable setting. The entree prices were at least $10 less than one would expect to pay in any metro market, so value accompanied the quality. Outstanding service, food made with obvious passion, simply an outstanding dining experience. We couldn't have asked to a better meal in any way. I think that the Concord area should embrace Sprigs as a remarkable restaurant with outstanding value, without a drive into Boston.

Beals or Thurston lobster pound at Mt.Desert Island?

We were in Maine in August, and we thought that Thurstons was a great roll, and the best value we found

Primo in Maine

We ate at Primo two weeks ago, and beginning to end, it was probably the best meal I have ever had. The place was a zoo on Thursday night during lobster festival, boy once seated the service was superb and the food was remarkable. We enjoyed every element of the evening. Bourdain was right that Primo is the best restaurant north ofNYC

Rome Dining Recommendations - Going next week

In order give some order to what you have to read, I would suggest looking at the posts by MB Fant and Jen Kalb when you are trying to figure out how to organize all of the information. They both have excellent knowledge of Roman dining, and they stay current. They both stand out in this sea of information.

How touristy are these restaurants?

Something off the beaten path, and exceptionally good is Dick & Jenny's. It has to be about the furthest thing from touristy this side of Parasol.

looking for suggestions for sunday night dinner in rome...

We found al Bric to be an excellent choice for Sunday dinner, and not too far from the Ghetto just a few yards down from the Campo.

Thanks for the kind thoughts, although I am sure that there are many people who would tell you that La Pergola is worth every Euro. The really important thing is that we loved our time--and the food--in Rome. And my Beloved Wife is still entirely beloved.

Honeymoon in Rome and Venice...Where should we eat ?

When my beloved wife and I honeymooned in Rome last year, I thought that Convivio Troiani was the most romantic restaurant because of the wonderful service and food. It is a little spare and bright to be classically romantic, but great service goes a long way. Otherwise, we found wandering the city and finding picturesque plazas, restaurants, gelaterias to be the most romantic places in the city. Sitting in the back room of al Bric with the love of one's life is amazingly romantic.

Honeymoon in Italy in Sept: need recs & feedback, please!

Congratulations! My wife and I went to Rome for our honeymoon last September. We did have reservations for some of our dinners, but we found that none of the restaurants were full. I think that unless you are thinking of the best in the city, reservations more than a day in advance shouldn't be necessary.

Best Bloody Mary?

The bloody at Commander's did look great, I can attest that the bloody at Galatoire's tasted great!

Northern Wisconsin Supper Clubs

If it is still around, I always liked the Blue Hills Supper Club, north of Rice Lake.

best bloody?

I don't know if a drink is reason enough to pay for a meal, but the bloody at Galatoire's is outstanding. Otherwise, I would trust any libation from Antoine's Hermes Bar, everything we have had there has been great.

Need Help for Special Occasion in Beloit (Janesville/Rockford)

I would consider going over to Lake Geneva; I live in Janesville, and there isn't anything special that I would recommend in the immediate area. In the Lake Geneva area, I would suggest Kirsch's on Lake Como or the Geneva Inn.

Where to get a Sazerac

I had a great Sazerac at Bar Hermes of Antoine's; while you are there, make sure to have the Oysters Foch Po' Boy--outstanding!

New Bar at Antoine's

We visited on 4/8, and we loved it! Stephanie the bartender made a great assortment of martinis, as well as the best sazerac of our trip. We thought that the Oysters Foch po' boy was excellent, and a great deal at $8.50. The banquet manager was having lunch at the same time as we, and volunteered to give us a tour of the restaurant--a huge place, with a wine room that runs all the way to Royal St. We loved the couple of hours that we spent there, and will be sure to return. I think that the Hermes Bar will do great things for Antoine's business.

You could try Amelie on Royal St. The courtyard is great, the food is fair, it should be good for children.

Dick & Jenny's & Stanley - 1st time, what do you like there??

Just ate there last week; loved the fried oysters, seafood pie, and the grillade. A wonderful meal, casual, great food, super wine list.

7 Dinners in 7 Nights

No one has mentioned Dick & Jenny's. We just got back from New Orleans, and had an excellent meal at D & J. The grits and grillade was outstanding, the pork with goat cheese and port reduction was superb, and not nearly as heavy as expected. The wine list is an absolute bargain. No pretense, just great food.

Long Weekend Dining

Long Weekend Dining

My BW and I will be in New Orleans for a long weekend a week from today, and I would like some advice on dining choices. We are having brunch at Commander's Palace on Sunday, but after that, our three dinners are open. I am inclined towards Dick & Jenny's on one evening, and I am weighing Arnaud's or Galatoire's for a classice creole meal on another. Otherwise, we do intend to stop by Central Grocery, Casamento's, Parkway, and Drago's for individual items. We are more interested in "New Orleans restaurants", rather than "restaurants in New Orleans". I welcome any thoughts on the matter.
