Yikes...I had really high hopes for this place but it absolutely failed the family test tonight. It wasn't that crowded when I got there and the kitchen and/or waiter really messed up our order. There were people who arrived after us getting their food before we did. We gave it a good amount of time but finally had to cancel a few orders. It was getting ridiculous. The food that we did get was average.
Mitsuwa Little Tokyo Closing 1/25/09
I used to work at the market part time when the store first opened as Yaohan. Some of the people I worked with then are still there. I'll also miss the food at Sakura.
Ocean Star downhill, alas
I usually visit Ocean Star once a week. I still enjoy the dim sum here and get there around 1030AM in order to get a bowl of chicken rice. They will usually sell out of this before 1130 or so. I haven't been charged for tea there in years.
Pho Minh, Pho Minh, Pho Minh
I went here today for the first time and it was really good. I've been looking for a pho place with no MSG in the broth so I'm happy this place exists.
Blue Ocean Seafood: New, cheap dim sum / Chinese in Alhambra
I had another nice dinner here tonight. I was worried about waiting for a table so I called ahead and was able to make a reservation. When I left at around 730PM there were still lots of people waiting for tables.
Fried Chicken in OC
Try Bbqchicken in Buena Park. BBQ stands for best of the best quality. Really good fried chicken (fried in olive oil). Costs more than KFC though.
Diner on Main
I tried Cookshack once and I couldn't finish the omelette. Maybe because I ate too much of their coffee cake.
Fisherman's Outlet Seafood Downtown
I like this place but it seems to get more expensive every time I visit. I usually get the fried fish/shrimp combo.

I believe the restaurant is owned by New Capital. They have dinner specials too. I went with my family (there were of 4 of us) and we each got to order 1/2 squab for only 99 cents each. A great deal.
SGV chinese restaurants open late (after 9)
WHills, can I ask what kinds of dishes you are ordering at Phoenix Inn? I've been there about 3x in the last 2 weeks and my dinners were very good.

I had a plate of roast pigeon just like that at a restaurant across from the White Swan Hotel. If I remember correctly they were only $13RMB each!
Top Meal At Top Island + $2.99 Lobster
I've usually enjoyed my dinners at Top Island and I'm even OK with the dim sum. However one of the hostesses there is a real dictator and made a rude comment to one of my family members. I haven't been back since.
Hungry Burro in Monterey Park
I tried Hungry Burro today and was completely underwhelmed. To me, their burritos are not that big and have too much rice in them. Sadly, my cafeteria at work makes better quesadillas.
Good and Bad Pho in the San Gabriel Valley
I've been told that Bakery 101 has closed down. This is too bad since I enjoyed the pho there with no msg.
Is there anywhere else in SGV that serves pho with no msg???

I had a really good really expensive hamburger at Harbourside inside the Intercontinental. Triple O's is OK.

When I leave HKG I'm usually ready for some Popeye's chicken and that's where I go.

I had a large carne asada nachos from Pepe's for dinner last week. It was so good!

Cheap eats for UH student
When I went to UH (years ago), I ate a lot at Island Manapua Factory at Manoa Marketplace. An order of beef chow fun could be 2 meals for some. Xlnt pork hash here.
In search of Hong Kong's 'BEST WON-TON NOODLE'
On my last trip to HKG, I was super tired & hungry and ordered wonton noodles thru room service (Conrad). All I can say was that it tasted damn good and probably the only time I'd ever order wonton noodles for HK$192!
Favorite Maui Restaurants?
Go to Nazo's for their Oxtail!! Theirs is almost as good as Kam Bowl in Hnl.

slowfoodgrrl , I think Coffee Manoa would have been your place to hangout. I really liked this shop and was sad when it closed.
joe's seafood, steak, and stone crab
I love this restaurant. I had the beef wellington the last time I was there. You also have to get the "2nd mortgage" seafood appetizer.
Chinese Friends downtown?
Chinese Friends is great for pork chop w/vegetable rice, shrimp friend rice and shanghai noodles.

I get my lumpia from Little Ongpin on Beverly. They are so good there.
